Outspoken Neil Warnock today urged Wolves: “Don’t sack Mick McCarthy.”
The Crystal Palace manager piled on the problems for his Molineux counterpart on Saturday as he orchestrated a 3-0 victory at Molineux.
It continued Palace’s march up the table in an unbeaten 14 game run – a sequence which has run in direct opposite to Wolves’ slide from the top three in the Championship.
But Warnock, whose Sheffield United team were denied promotion to the Premiership by Wolves in the 2003 play-off final, says removing McCarthy would be another victory for football’s knee-jerk culture.
“Wolves have tried their hardest,” said Warnock.
“It’s not Mick that misses chances that they miss, but the managers always get the blame, unfortunately.
“I thought the crowd stayed with them, but it’s a difficult time for Mick. But it’s a difficult time for all of us when you see Sam Allardyce going after 24 games – what chance have managers got?
“I fear for the young managers coming into the game because you just don’t have the time. One year and one month in the Championship - that’s ridiculous!
“It took me six years to get Sheffield United up without any money! I’m not against sacking per se. I think some of them deserve to go.
“But I would say to everybody at Wolves – directors and fans – that it’s quite easy to get rid of managers, but I don’t think anybody thinks about who they’re going to get in. Or if they’re going to do better.
“It’s the easiest thing in the world to get rid of managers. In the flick of an eyelash Wolves could have scored three goals and we could have missed our opportunities.
“It could have been a completely different ball game if they’d taken their three chances. Let’s not get carried away with doom and gloom here.”

I know a lot of wolves fans would like to see Big sam come in, but lets be honest for a minute… He has just been sacked at newcastle - largely due to “fan power” - the weekly calls for him to be sacked proved to be his downfall.
Is there ANY club he is less likely to go to now than Wolves ?
You are a club famous throughout football for booing the team and management - not just now but as the above article says, its nothing new.
So - is Big Sam going to put his future in the hands of footballs most fickle fans ? - even if he would consider dropping into the championship - I doubt very much he will risk coming to you guys.

He will not be sacked. The club has shown little or no ambition to get out of the Championship. We fluked it once and then had no plan to stay up with the big boys. I still believe Dave Jones was our best manager of the last twenty years and he should have been supported fully, if he had just imagine where we might be. Not heard much from Mr. Morgan, doubt he cares too much, just a good investment for a tenner. So as fans we just have to accept that our club, yes our club, is being run by a group of unambitious business men with no passion other than their adversity to risk.
I advocate firing MM on results alone but accept that it will not make a jot of difference. An ambitious club would never have appointed Hoddle or MM, both failures, they would have taken a risk with Ince or Keane. We won’t go up and we won’t go down and Moxey will sleep easy knowing as long as the balance sheet looks good Mr. Morgan will not give a hoot about the fans and the agony they ensure week in week out. The abuse of our loyalty has gone on for decades, for me over fifty years. Yes we have a financially viable club but just at the moment I am looking at Leeds fans with envy.

Sacking managers works just fine - the only thing Warnock did this weekend in terms of Mick Mcarthy is prove that firing managers can work. How much better off are palace since they employed Warnock.
Just like us, they had a great striker who wasn’t scoring. Well he is now. They had young home grown players that weren’t getting in their team so people like Kennedy could start - they don’t anymore.
Sure if your completely rubbish like Newcastle or Derby then there’s no point firing your manager.
But there are lots of clubs who o much better once they fire their managers - and we could be one of them.

I think Mick found a new team on Saturday with Keogh, Eastwood and Jarvis causing problems for Palace. Unfortunalty it was too late for this game but not the next.

Lets look at the facts, when MM took over he had little choice but to play the players we had at the time, mostly kids and they did a good job, then one by one MM players came in!!!!!!! I see your point and know what your saying. However these same fans are doing the very thing they’re criticising MM for. They are having a poor affect on the team. They’re supposedly frustrated as they want the team to do better, but lets face it they must know that booing is not going to help gain their goal. I rate MM, but know not all fans feel the same. Putting their opnion forward is their choice but surely there are more methods. Booing does nothing but further the problems they reckon they want sorted, so where’s the sense? ii] MM did a brilliant job last season, but he has had some money this and is loaning out some of our good young players eg Jones, Collins,Little. He is playing Collins,S Ward and Bothroyd and ignores Rosa, Davies etc. His fault! We need some luck but without Kites, he must either play Gobern or Keogh wide and Eastwood in the centre.
iii] Albion fans have short memories. Their Sunday School ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ fans were booing Mowbray last season and may have been this!

The thing is Warnock has just won 3-0 and he can say what he likes but it doesn’t change the fact that were not winning games. Also a player is not going to bad mouth thier own manager are they. Could you imagine Gray coming out in an interview,saying: “Mick is clueless, I never known anything like it, useless manager” is he??

difference with warnock was he knew what position his own players played in. does mm? well its debatable isnt it? and i wonder if bernie will feel the same next year when paul ince returns to wolves…. only problem is it’l be a league game against mk dons and he’ll be in the wrong dug out. usually i agree with people gettin behind thier team and not constantly slagging off their manager but this is oneof those rare times when its entirely the managers fualt. i mean lets be fair to the players, they are trying, adn you can hardly blame them if theyre not good enough. but is it just me or has everyone else noticed the main problem with the team is that they dont actually seem to know where theyre playin. or maybe its more than they just wonder into theyre natural positions. adn youve gotta look at the entire coaching staff for that one. i mean who honestly employs tony daley as a fitness coach. can you think of anyone who was injured more? a physio i *might* understand, i mean who has had more physio work than him? so you’d think he migth have picked a thing or two up there. and we still havent got any one in to look after the kids, all the fuss they made bout the kids this year being the best batch in years adn now theyre goin sidewards cuz theres no one there dedicated to training them. its a shambles. usually new owners dont give existing managers much time ot fix things - they want theyre own guy in- so why does ours have to be the exception to the rule?

The majority of wolves fans had faith in MM at the start of the season BUT the expected improvement has not happened and ultimately in football this becomes the responsibility of the manager. We also need to look at the backroom staff who have been here for manager after manager. When most top managers take up a new post they will take previous back room staff they have worked with to their new teams. Has this been the case with any of Wolves recent managers?? or are we still left with connor , mimms etc…
We will never have a better opportunity to have a complete change in the entire structure with a local FAN as manager (big Sam), with a favourite of the chairman as his head coach (little Sam) - a partnership who worked well in the past and who could attract the “experienced players” necessary to build on our good youngsters and take us forward. Lets take this opportunity NOW and not regret missing out in 6 months time.

They are the people responsible for the lack of confidence. We have good players although MM does not seem to put the obvious round pins into round holes. We do need a couple of class defenders. 22. Spot on there in that Dave Jones was the best manager we have had in the last 20 years. I wished we kept him, I would think we would be well established in the premiership by now.
I’m tired to be honest of all this argument and counter argument between the fans on whether Mad Mick should stay or go.
I am voting with my feet, I will not attend another match while he is manager, that will be the only way Morgan will realise he needs to act.

It’s a sad day when you have to agree with Neil Warnock, but he’s 100% right.
Mick isn’t making a lot of good decisions at the moment but sacking him would be like rolling the dice again. Sure we might get in a good manager who takes us up, but it’s even more likely they’ll struggle at some point and we’ll be back in exactly the same situation. What’s the point?
Tactically, it seems to me that with all the strikers at our disposal we should really be playing at least 3 of them every week i.e. keogh and bothroyd up front with Freddy just behind getting into all those positions he likes to get into to shoot. By all means, play 4-4-2 when kightly is fit but we’re lacking match winners in our side without him and the likes of bothroyd, keogh and eastwood are matchwinners in my eyes.

We should stop calling for MM’s head all the time and cut him some slack. The siege mentality is helping no one.
In return MM should try to get out of the rut he’s fallen into regarding selection, formation etc.
If Mick’s stated preference is to play with wingers then he try that, not use players out of position. How much better did we look with Jarvis on the pitch?
If injuries and squad deficiencies mean we don’t have the quality for the wings then Mick should try to “think out of the box” and change the system. He should be more willing to drop some of the favorites like S. Ward and give a chance to players like Rosa (when he was scoring for fun before he got injured) who have the quality and experience that might just make a difference. From what I’ve seen, Eastwood is still the best man we have, give him a run and I’m sure the goals will come.

On the MM subject here’s a few tips for him - stop playing 2 holding M/F players, Get 2 PROPER wide men (not S.Donkey - sorry Ward) & use the old adage - the best form of defence is ATTACK (not the other way round). Maybe a settled pairing up front would help - it worked with Doog & JR and with Bully & Mutchy

I am a season ticket holder and sat through rubbish at Hull on Boxing Day but I will not boo the team. It is bad enough booing - but during the game? Honestly what does that achieve? If you want a rant at the end go and ring a phone in radio show by all means.
MM signed Eastwood and Ebanks Blake for £3 million and I don’t believe any Wolves fan would argue with that. They will come good and are proven goalscorers. Yes MM needs to settle on a front two but the favourites thing is tiresome - Jay Bothroyd was left out at the start of the season - remember the reaction? Matt Jarvis has taken time to get properly fit hence Stephen Ward starting on the left - I think his height also has something to do with the decision - I think our forwards are alright but they have been rubbish in the air and in holding the ball up generally. I can’t think of any other natual left wingers at the club - please don’t resurrect the Mcindoe argument who clearly wanted to go if his comments in the press were accurate. MM is also not stubborn - he admitted he got the Jody Craddock situation wrong - not many managers would have done that - fact.
Get behind the team and judge at the season end - that does not necessarily mean sack MM if promotion is not achieved. We are signing good young players who I believe do want to play for Wolves - Butler, Kennedy and many others were here for final pay days and not for the long term - that is the DIFFERENCE! This is a difference for which I am prepared to exercise a little more patience - I’m hurting but hoping.

The benchmark for success more often than not is continuity and stability, I use Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool as examples 3 of our most successful teams dont sack their managers every couple of seasons, fergie didnt win a trophy in his first 4 seasons of management, he won the FA cup and the rest is history.
Clubs that have ie Newcastle, Man City, Tottenham all big clubs have won next to nothing over the last 30 years have constantly chopped and changed managers with little or no success.
I dont see sacking MM as the answer, I like many was expecting a successful season this time but prehaps we over achieved more than we thought last season. Mick in turn is not doing himself any favours with some comments he makes or positions he plays the players and not giving the likes of Davies, Little, Gobern and Gleeson not even a sniff of an opportunity is quite baffling but booing the players is not going to give them the confidence they need to play well.
Now more than ever is the time to support MM and the team, lets make molineux the intimidating stadium it can be, not to our players but the opposition.
Despite our poor form the season is not over we can still achieve our aim if not directly through the playoffs.
People reading this may think I am mad at what I am saying but a lot of the success we had last season was total 100% support for the team and what a difference it made.

Give MM until the end of the season and get behind a young team that are no comparison to Kennedy, Butler etc - players after a final pay day and no Wolves loyalty. It may not be happening at the minute but I don’t believe the players are not trying. Certain players frailties are showing and MM is slowly replacing those players. Ebanks Blake , Eastwood , Foley , Kightly , Jarvis , Hennessey and Edwards are the exciting future. Stick with it - air yor frustration after the game on football phone ins but judge the progress at the season end.
The loyalty joke is boring - Jay Bothroyd was dropped at the start of the season and Mick was big enough to admit a mistake concerning Jody Craddock.
Currently hurting but still hoping and seeing the bigger picture.

In an attempt to put some perspective on the situation surrounding Black Country football . In all honesty what have any of us to shout about over the last or so years?
OK both clubs have had their moments but nothing to rival the 50’s 60’s and 70’s.
In the cold light of day all fans will concede that the really good
times are long gone.We should recognise that without a massive influx of funds (£30m is peanuts)neither team will ever again reach those previously mentioned halcyon days.
So support your team through thick and thin and be happy that neither set of supporters will EVER choke themselves on prawn sandwiches.

We are having the season we probably should have had last year but Mick got the lads to over=acxhieve. he did bloody well and deserves another year without all this carping.
The boo - boys don’t have the right to boo just because they paid a few quid at the gate. We are a club - players, staff and fans and we should unite behind the manager and players.
All we can expect is to see the team improve in the coming months. This season is about development and if Mick ticks the right boxes with players then next season we’ll be there.

I was a season ticket holder for 30 years and WILL not go back to the club until Moxey is ousted and we get a long term ambitious manager. Who wants to pay £25 to watch that garbage? As a club we lack vision . There are too many people at the club who treta it just like a job in a supermarket….. The club is rotten to its core and it will not be long before Mr Morgan starts weilding his axe. He should start with the manager and ALL his staff… Let a new manager bring in his own staff. The crowd are in limbo with Mr Morgan at the moment. I think he has written off this season and will make his move after the last game. We won’t go down and we won’t get promoted that is fact…….
