Wolves owner Steve Morgan is returning to Uganda tomorrow – to follow through with his dream of supplying running water to a poverty-stricken village.
The mercy mission by the millionaire philanthropist follows criticism he would never be able to pull the project off. Fellow contestants on Channel 4 reality show Millionaires’ Mission, which aired in September last year, scoffed when 54-year-old Morgan revealed his masterplan to build water pipes through three deprived villages.
When complete, three villages will have clean water supplies, benefiting 3,500 people and five schools.
Morgan told the Express & Star today: “Having lived with the villagers, I know how important the provision of water is to these people.
“I am delighted the project has been successful.”
Morgan’s system, which he funded entirely, will see the villages of Nyakasiru, Karorwa and Bukinda supplied with running water from solar-powered pumping systems.
Two reservoirs have been created and 13.5 km of water main installed.
He will also be taking Wolves shirts to Uganda with him and it is hoped teams from the three villages will play in a mini-football tournament.
Millionaires’ Mission saw eight wealthy businessmen and women swap their luxury lifestyles to help the poor in Uganda.
During the programme Morgan was portrayed as the “black sheep” of the team after angering his fellow contestants when he did not back their plan to build a money-spinning hotel.
Instead he forged ahead with his own water plan and incensed the group further when he made a dramatic early exit from the show.
Shortly after appearing on the programme, Morgan, former boss of Redrow Homes who bought Wolves last August, revealed he considered suing its makers.
Vowing never to do reality TV again, he said: “It was a crass misrepresentation.”

Arise Sir Steve Morgan, well done for helping out the poor people of Uganda, good to see there are some decent people who care about others rather than just making money for their own greed. I for one applaud you for what you have done.
