Villa’s pursuit of Jermain Defoe could be delayed while he sorts out a dispute with his agent.
Tottenham striker Defoe is contracted to Skye Andrew until 2009 but has allegedly split from the
representative amid claims he is joining forces with London-based firm SEN.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill would be keen to recruit £10m-rated Defoe and will have been encouraged by news Spurs boss Juande Ramos has told him he can leave White Hart Lane.
But his contract with the agent stipulates only Andrew can act on his behalf until next year and no one else can negotiate for him.
The dispute is believed to centre around a difference of opinion between the player and agent on Defoe’s future.
Defoe, whose deal runs out in June 2009, wanted to sign a new contract, while Andrew was apparently happy for him to let him sit tight.
Claims that O’Neill have bid £7m for Defoe were met by a “no comment” from Villa today.
