Wolves tie up Ebanks-Blake deal

ebanksblake.jpg Wolves have signed Sylvan Ebanks-Blake from Plymouth for £1.5 million.

Blake has joined Wolves for £1.5 million after turning down a deal to stay at Home Park.

The Molineux club triggered a release clause in Blake’s contract and have persuaded him to come to Wolves.

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock said: “We did not want Sylvan to leave, and we would have offered him the best contract that has ever been offered to a Plymouth Argyle player to try to persuade him to stay.

“However, he was so determined to join Wolves that he would not even discuss a new deal with us. For me, that is disappointing.”

Ebanks-Blake, aged 21, joined Argyle from Manchester United in 2006 for £300,000.

Sturrock added: “When Sylvan joined us, he and his agent were insistent that the £1.5m trigger price was written into the deal.

“If we hadn’t agreed, he wouldn’t have signed - it’s as simple as that.

“When Wolves indicated they were prepared to meet that £1.5m price, we were bound to allow Sylvan to talk to them and we could not ask Wolves for a bigger fee.

“That is the way of the modern system. Everything favours the player and his agent.”

Don’t no to much about this guy, lets hope MM gives him a regular partner like eastwood. Im sure though that with the right service all our forwards would get goals. I no we need to strenghen in certain areas but i do remember a lot more balls were being put in the box last season, so im sure most of our problems must be put down to the way MM is setting the lads up. We all pay our money lads and all have the right to moan but lets all get behind the boys during the game and not on their backs! I like many of you love this club and feel the hurt you feel when things aint going the way we would like, but come on lads surley we should of learnt our lesson now, the more we give the lads grief the more they fall short of our expectaions. We are all in this together lads so lets cheer em on no matter what and im sure things will soon start getting better. UP THE WOLVES…….

    RIGHT!

I am one of McCarthy fierciest critic and justified with the pathetic football been produced this season and the shocking form of some players who ought to have been dropped months ago… HOWEVER 2 signings I want to be optimistic and I will be so long they are given a starting spot aswell as given a good run in the team rather than warming the bench. We had the same feel good factor at start of season when we got Freddie in and looks what happened to him. So Mick if you are reading these post I suggest the player “your favourites i.e S Ward, Elliott, Henry ought to be loaned out to other teams and give the big hitters like SEB, Freddie, a good run in the side. For heavens sake give Jarvis a run out, Gibson and Edwards in tandem in midfield, take the capt away from Henry the burden is too much for him and give it too someone like Gray, I think he needs to shoulder the responsibility more. I await further developments and team selection with interest, but if he doesnt change things around and not play players who are in form then I am still going to state Mick Out! But with an influx of new players ok lets give him a chance again. Fickle or not I am 100% wolves not 100%McCarthy. His man-management of certain players stinks!

  71. CopenhagenWolf said:

Great signing (SEB) but we can sign all quality strikers in the world if they don’t receive the supply in the box by one or two creative midfielders we are never going to score. Having seen Wolves a couple of times in december our midfield looked pathetic.

Not a lot of creatitity have gone lost between Henry and olofinjana and if S. Ward play out of place DON’T play him at all. Waste of space. Give Jarvis a fair chance to prove himself.

Don’t know about Edwards. Looked good against Liverpool last Sunday.

    Come on, WOLVES

  75. Spanish Wolf said:

I watched the Luton/Liverpool game at the weekend and thought to myself how well Edwards played (amongst others) and why dont we have gamble with him. I think the two signings are both positive steps towards dealing with weaknesses in our squad and continuing the evolutionary process of changing the squad from a ‘get numbers in quick’ one, as was needed at the start of last season, to one with better quality. Lets hope that we continue with a few more signings, get some of the long term injured players back and push on to what is and should have been our REALISTIC target at the start of this overhyped season, a play-off spot. Good luck to the two new lads.

  78. brummie rob wolves said:

Have you noticed something. Make a couple of good signings, if the Edwards one is fact - why did we not spot him earlier as he was just up the road - and the Boingers have all gone quiet.
Keep it tight at the back, play Kites and Jarvis and we could make a major challenge or at least cement ourselves in the play offs.

    FLORIDAWOLF,

2 signings in one day, and players that, on the face of it, will be an asset. However, I cannot help but feel sorry for anyone connected with Luton or Plymouth in the way these have happened. We go to the administrators of Luton and agree a deal, did Luton want to sell him? Then we find out, most likely from his agent, that Ebanks-Blake has a ‘out’ clause in his contract and meet the valuation, Plymouth did not want to sell him, and he is a new player to them. We now have 2 clubs that hate WWFC. This is a sign of the times I suppose, and we have an owner who treates it 100% as a business, there were loop holes and we took them. Is this good for the game? In the short term we most likely will benefit, but, in the long run, football looses. Another indication of it being a rutheless business and the weak will fall by the wayside.

Great signing! no one saw this one coming eh?
3rd highest goalscorer in the championship, a young lad who couldnt wait to play for the wolves.
Hopefully this will shut the boo boys up for a while !
Very astute business by the club, recognising the clause in his contract, acting swiftly, offering a value for money 1.5 million.
The lad fits our policy perfectly being another hungry promising young player.

2 great signings this lad will get goals but only if the supply is there midfield has got to improve for this to happen so lets wait and see who else comes in

Good quality signing but then we all said that about Eastwood.

Who’s gonna play up front? Are we going to change to a more attacking formation? 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2

Don’t know anything about Edwards, is he central midfield? Attacking/Defensive?

Two decent signings for the CLUB - Is this down to SM scouts???

***********IMPORTANT NEWSFLASH TO HAPPY CLAPPERS OUT THERE****************

The TEAM need decent TACTICS to win games not just a new injection of a few more players!!!

WITHOUT a better route to goal, strikers will starve of service - end up playing in midfield and find out exactly how all the other strikers at this club really feel - frustrated and confused!!!

What we REALLY need aswell as better players are BETTER TACTICS, NOT hoof and rush, Centre half’s playing at left back, Centre forward playing left wing/ midfield

Currently we sit far too deep in most every game - almost as though we have an 8 man defence - we need BETTER tactics and players who have better quality
Whilst these two are a welcomed addition to the squad; We cant see how they will change MM’s tactics???

Kites may be capable of ripping Cambridge apart; BUT he wont get away with that against better equipped opposition on his own!!!

Either MM gets the players to learn how to attack as a “team” or the club finds a manager who is capable of doing that!!!

Whilst the “In MM we trust” brigade again and again wear thier MM stickers “loud N proud” and that is very noble of them

We’re only interested in seeing entertaining quality football return to the club - a dreamworld of full backs supporting wide midfield players - players that can string more than 3 passes together without losing the ball; strikers that actually run at the goal and have shots!!! You know, a proper game of football each week!!!

With the new addition of a few more quality players, we fear that without the new addition of positive tactics - these players will become integrated into the MM academy of football zombies, where once a player showed promise they were punished and made to sit on the bench or even worse, not chosen at all!!!

Repent MM Repent Change your ways and learn about football tactics PLEASE or the alternative is that SM shows you the door at the end of the season - Simple really! Lets hope MM “sees the light” and finds inspiration in the world of football tactics!!!

    Heres to hoping!

Jez Moxey says: “”It never ceases to amaze me that clubs announce things publicly before deals have actually been completed.”
It’s clear from the Plymouth site that Plymouth and Wolves had come to terms on Ebanks-Blake and from BBC, on Edwards. What remained was for Wolves to agree terms with the players. It was right and proper for Plymouth and Luton to tell their fans the bad news ASAP.
Other clubs announce these deals and then sometimes they fail to agree terms with the players–even the top four occasionally. So what? Everybody accepts that sometimes happens.
It never ceases to amaze me that Moxey wants to keep everything secret all the time!! Why??

Another talented but lazy Striker???? Has ‘Tragic’ Mick gone mad? If he doesn’t ‘Put in a Shift’ as Mick likes to put it he will end up on the bench with the Dingle hoards chanting his name and Mick pulling a deaf’un. Does this sound familier?

Can’t believe some of you guys are still not happy.
You’ve just signed a young lad that is scoring goals, give the lad a chance.
Think you might need someone with a bit of creativity especially if Kightly gets crocked again, but you may see brighter roads ahead.

    Kightly is crocked again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is out tomorrows game. I dont understand why they brought him back so soon. I have been out for 2 years with a bruised ankle….no way was the bone going to heal in 6 weeks.

    Desperation…………

I agree that Mick has started making some terrible decisions, playing players out of position is a bad trap to fall into & MM has done this on several occasions.

We were doing well last season with energy and quality on both flanks giving us the balance required. Wolves fans love to see wide players that can go at full backs and scare the life out of them and with Kightly struggling with injury its going to be difficult to find this, but playing strikers and central midfielders out wide is not the answer. I’d rather give a young lad a chance rather than play someone out of position, its not good for the player or the team.

I think we should stick behind MM though as I think in this league you can put a run of results together at the right time and get promoted. I don’t think changing the manager is always the correct option but I just hope that MM goes back to basics which is what got us playing well last season.

On the whole we have a better squad than last season but Mick seems to sticking by players that aren’t doing it for us at the moment.

On a positive note we haven’t lost for 3 games and we have just made 2 young signings that should make an impact, Blake will give us something that we don’t have much of, which is strength up front.

Can I just make a point that it wasn’t long ago since these pages were full of how awful we were at the back, now its all moan moan moan about creativity. We are going to miss Kightly like Man U would miss Ronaldo, its a fact of football that you miss your best players when there injured.

Fans (Wolves fans in paticular) turn very quickly but you only have to look at Newcastle and it DOES NOT HELP!

I hope the fans keep supporting the team but Mick you must stop giving them reason to moan by putting players in positions that don’t suit them.

I don’t see why people are getting all excited about these high risk purchases we have made. But I do see plenty of reason to be supportive and stop this awful booing - it makes all Wolves fans look like sad b******s.

im all for these signings, young players with drive and a chance to progress not premiership hasbeens after a last big payday and not bothered performing anymore because they think they are better than championship level!!!

on another note,we have lost most of the attacking flair from last season due to a more defensive based midfield

    so who goes?

freddy eastwood?…. must be personality clash with mick why he aint playing many games, still think he could bang in the goals for wolves if given the supply of crosses etc.. may be going!

keogh..good player and fantastic commitment but not a good goal scoring ratio..get bully to give him shooting lessons… staying!

ward..doing ok playing out of place but not a left winger… squad player..staying!

elliott.. not impressed with elliott at the moment, puts a shift in as mick says but if i put a shift in like that i would get the sack.. may need better supply to improve..staying!

bothroyd..has great ability and a decent shot…when he stays on his feet!goes down easier than a prostitute given £1000 for a bj!!!
given too many chances now and not done enough! maybe going

    thats my opinions said
