Albion’s centre-backs were today warned that the return of Martin Albrechtsen could provide a new threat to their first team places.
The Dane returned to the starting line-up for the first time in two months on Saturday after recovering from knee ligament damage.
And while he played 90 minutes against Charlton at left-back in place of Paul Robinson, Albion boss Tony Mowbray believes Albrechtsen will soon be piling pressure on the central defenders.
Slovenian Bostjan Cesar and Portuguese Pele have been the recent regulars at the heart of Mowbray’s defence.
But with Albrechtsen and Leon Barnett back in action in the 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at The Valley, Mowbray is delighted by the competition.
“I don’t really see Martin as a left full-back in the long-term, but it was a question of his versatility coming into play at the weekend,” said Mowbray.
“I think he showed before he got injured the qualities he has got that can help our team, generally in a central defensive position.
“The competition there is increasing all the time with people coming back to fitness and form. I thought Leon did well at the weekend after a spell out of the side and the competition for places in that area is going to be strong as well.”
Tickets for Tuesday’s replay against Charlton at The Hawthorns have gone on sale to season-ticket holders and Albion members.
Admission has been reduced to £15 for adults, £10 for pensioners, under-18s and students and £5 for under-16s.
Season ticket holders booking tickets online will not pay a booking fee.
Once their payment has been processed they will receive an e-mail confirming the game has been added to their stilecard.

it is nice to sit back and view the empire from time to time, with no genuine worries at heart. now is our time to do so.
I’m sorry but TM and I have to disagree about Leon—I think he is a weak link—does not pass well and is often out of position and is outheaded. Not a very good list for a defender Please bring in a couple of reliable defenders and stop talking up players such as Barnet.
chaplow sold to preston for 1.35m aswell, with 20% sell on clause..good bit of business that, wish chappy all the best shame it didnt workout for him…..
