Wolves 2 Cambridge 1

Neill Collins15.52: Final whistle. A relieved Mick McCarthy will be delighted that Kightly has got him and his players out of jail. Collins goes from zero to hero by grabbing the winner after conceding the penalty. Our man Mark Douglas says Kightly ran the show after his appearance, breathing new life into Wolves. The obituaries for McCarthy’s reign, which may have been started after Wolves went behind, can now be ripped up. But this was non-league opposition after all - fans, get those comments in now!

15.46: Neill Collins spares Wolves’ blushes by scoring, he powers home a header to break Cambridge hearts and seemingly put Wolves through to round four. Kightly won and delivered the free kick for the goal - what a half hour from the substitute.

15.40: Into the closing minutes at Molineux and Wolves are pressing desperately.

15.33: Bothroyd wastes a chance. He is put clean through but dithers over the shot allowing keeper Potter to smother.

15.31: Douglas: “The goal was greeted by a tidal wave of relief:. The home team have 15 minutes to force a winner or it’s a horrible replay at the Abbey Stadium.

15.26: Wolves are level and it’s Kightly, who has only been on the pitch five minutes. He meets a low cross 12 yards out and slots home.

15.21: Wolves are getting “frustrated” says Douglas and Eastwood goes into the book for a late lunge on the touchline.

15.19: Kightly is on on the hour mark and his return is greeted with cheers from the Wolves fans.

15.16: Groans at Molineux as Ward fires over from six yards out.

15.13: Cambridge are “cramming nine men behind the ball and forcing Wolves to come at them”.

15.08: Ward volleys over then Eastwood sends a sizzling shot just wide from the edge of the area.

15.05: Back out and Keogh is off and Eastwood is on. He is without a goal since August, how Wolves need one today.

14.49: Half time at Molineux. Food for thought for Wolves.

14.48: There is frustration at Molineux, Wolves simply have to turn this around in the second half.

14.41: Penalty to Cambridge and it’s drama at Molineux. Scott Rendell scores. The ball hit Collins on the arm from Convery’s cross, Wolves players were furious at the award.

14.40: half time approaching at Molineux and still Wolves can’t break down Cambridge. Gibson sends a 25-yarder wide.

14.35: Wolves incur the wrath of McCarthy after a neat passing move fails to end with an effort on goal. It’s now 35 minutes and no goals.

14.28: Douglas: “An intriguing encounter with Wolves creating more chances than they have done for weeks”. Shots from Stephen Ward and Bothroyd among the efforts.

14.23: Great opportunity for Cambridge but Hennessey saves well from Convery- a let off for Wolves. The visitors are looking good on the break.

14.21: It is truly a worldwide medium - we have a debate on the comments from two Wolves fans in Australia about the A-League. Maybe there are a few transfer bargains for Wolves on the other side of the world.

14.20: Douglas says Wolves are having more of the possession but Cambridge fans sniff an upset.

14.15: Darren Ward is forced to clear off his own goal line as Wolves come under pressure.

14.14: Our man at Molineux today Mark Douglas says: “The 4,000 Cambridge fans are making themselves heard ahead of a sparse home crowd”. The visitors are playing some pretty football and every half chance is being cheered.

14.09: Scrappy opening to proceedings with no clear chances for either side so far.

14.02: Jay Bothoyd tries a shot in the first minute but it is blocked.

14.01: Match is underway.

13.54: Just over five minutes to kick off at Molineux.

13.43: Cambridge fan Brack0 gives Wolves fans some hope with his comments (see below). So that’s two sides with not much optimism, it can’t be a bad day for both. He also gives you the lowdown on today’s visitors.

13.31: Cambridge have a player called Albrighton in their side, is that the closest they will get to Wolverhampton today?

13.27: Wolves make two changes Henry and Olofinjana are both suspended and had to be replaced. MM chooses Potter and Jarvis. Kightly back on the bench for Wolves. Thoughts?

Wolves: Hennessey, Foley, Collins, Ward, Gray, Gibson, Potter, Jarvis, Ward, Keogh, Bothroyd.

Subs: Ikeme, Eastwood, Elliott, Edwards, Kightly.

13.16: wolfgoldinFL would keep the same side with the exception of Mark Davies. We will bring you news of what MM does as soon as we get it.

13.06: Do you think MM will make wholesale changes today? Can he afford to? Would you risk a second string side if you were boss? let us know below.

13.00: It’s worrying times around Molineux today. Conference side Cambridge are desperate to cause an upset, Wolves are without a win in seven.

We will bring you the teams when we have them.

If I were MM I’d keep to pretty much the same side, if nothing else but to build up confidence in time for our next league match against high flying Palace.
Hennessey, Foley, Edwards, Ward, Gray, M. Davies (he is fit by the way), Henry, Gibson, Jarvis, Keogh, Eastwood would be my team. Ikeme, Breen, Kightly, Elliot and S. Ward as subs.

Tactically we look inept, without Kightly we have no creativity, today was the ideal opportunity to give Mark Davies his chance, especially seeing the average Olofinjana and Henry were missing. Unfortunately he bottled it and recalled Potter.

The difference when Kites came on is obvious, a bit of flare and direct football which no-one else in Wolves’ seems to capable of. And yet you call yourselves fans??

Let’s get a few things straight - 1 - Cup matches have little to do with League Form, Division, reputation - that’s why we were playing Cambridge!!!

2 - The penalty was an atrocious decision. How can anyone in their right mind blame Collins?

3 - We won!!The team didn’t panic, created quite a few chances and came out on top.

MM isn’t the muppet round here - it’s the so-called fans who are never happy and think that there is something clever about complaining.

So - a piece of advice. Go and get your coaching qualifications, get some experience in football management and apply for the job if and when it becomes available. If you know so much about it, why aren’t you already there doing it?

In the meantime, SUPPORT the team.

This was another absolutely abject performance by Wolves. Devoid of method or know how. Cambridge were there to be rolled over with the minimum of effort.

Why oh why does Mick persevere with Bothroyd he was again abysmal and it must cost an absolute fortune having the grass seeds taken out of his arse after every match. He spends that much time on the floor with the slightest puff of wind appearing to upend him. He even got himself booked for diving today, which was as much effort as he put into anything. How some fans can say he is our most complete football is unimaginable.

Should have been one up in the first 15 seconds when Jarvis got inside the full back and then opted to try and put the ball in to Boothroyd instead of putting it in the net, which would have been easier. I guess this shows just how tentative the players are.

Another example of the wrong team being sent out to play.

124 david - we have as much right to express our opinion as anyone here. MM continues to ignore the other options available to him whilst we are enduring a drought of goals but instead continues with 2 central midfielders who (by there own admittance) are under performing. He stated in the pre match reports that he wanted a quick start and a quick goal so he leaves the 2 strikers with the most goals this season on the bench and starts with Keogh (who i like as a player) who apparently is still recovering from a chest infection and as such had to be substituted at half time!!

He bought Jarvis as a replacement for Mcindoe on the left wing but has continued to play a striker in that position instead of the natural left winger (who incidently had another good game in that position today!

No i have not got my coaching badges but then again it is blatantly obvious, to not just me but the majority of the people who post on this site and turn up week in week out to watch the dross that we have been serving up this season, that Mick Macarthy appears to be totally clueless as to how to solve our current problems.

Bothroyd must go, so must Mick so must Moxey so must Connor. This was close to being one of the most embarrassing results in Wolves history. Give Freddie an extended run with Keogh (when he’s recovered from his chest infection) Keep a balanced midfield by bringing in Mark Davies who is not injured, but seems to be out of favour with the muppet.

Bothroyd looks to me like he couldn’t give a damn and falls over like a wilted pancy. My 8 year old daughter can stay on her feet better than he can on a pair of ice skates! He is an absolute waste of skin and does not deserve to wear the Wolves top. I would love to see him sold to…Cambridge maybe, along with Collins.

I’ll tell you what proved how bad Wolves have become, was the lack of regular season ticket holders in the South Bank today. The row I sit in was full of the “kid for a quid” brigade and part time fans who clearly had nothing better to do at 1400 hrs on a Saturday afternoon. The fans that hold season tickets are so fed up with the crap this team have dished up all season, they’ve had enough. I only keep going at the moment because I’ve paid for my seat.

And before the “in MM we trust” & the “stop moaning and support the team” party and the idiots who persist in singing “super Mick McCarthy” at every home game get on my back, I’ve been to every home game for three seasons, have payed for a season ticket, been a fan all my life, am Wolves through & through, and have parted with my hard earned cash to see decent football, but that is my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

He is to blame for more goals conceded than he could ever score yet Mick insists on playing him instead of say a slightly quick Rob Edwards. How must Foley and Ward feel playing next to that donkey. Glad I didn’t go as by all accounts it was more of the usual dross (yes I am a S.T holder in the North Bank) all I’ll say is keep up the slagging off of the lads on here, it heeps happy boggie & the rest of the boggies quiet as they can’t really top the amount of drivel spouted by some of our own “Suppirters” (use the term loosely)

Ikeme ( Hennesey cnat be bothered to dive )
Foley ( No other good side backs )
Craddock ( Collins and Ward are naf on the ball hoofs )
    Breen ( ” ” ” ” ” ” ” ” ” )
Little ( Better than gray )
    Kightly ( Amazing )
Davies ( Actually takes on people rather than passing it back only to be hoofed )
Henry ( Determined and defends well )
Jarvis ( Much better than ward who is slow this guy has got pace )
Eastwood ( Scored 20goals a season for southend but MM has destroyed him so lets get his confidence back )
Keogh ( Good second striker and gets so many assists )
