Vandals have wrecked three crown bowling greens at a Staffordshire sports club, causing damage running into thousands of pounds.
It is thought spades were used to dig up the turf at Universal Sports Club in Doxey Road, Stafford, and members were left horrified by the extent of the damage which was discovered this morning.
Fears have now been voiced it might not be possible to get it returned to the necessary standard for them to be used again this year.
The club, which has teams playing in Cannock Bowling League, has given CCTV footage to police and is offering a reward of at least £1,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.
Club chairman John Mitchell said he was called out at 7.45am and was shocked to see the scale of the vandalism.
He said: “It appears they have used spades to dig up the turf. The cost of repairing the damage is going to run into thousands of pounds.”

I no longer reside in the UK .. but in the almost 40 years I have lived in my adopted home I have never seen or heard of such an example of wanton senseless destruction ….. the perpetrators when discovered should be taken to that site and publicly birched and any politically correct naysayers should be aligned with them.
It is with sorrow I am still around to witness the depths to which the place of my birth has sunk……………
These idiots will never amount to anything.I’ll be paying for the rest of my life so this low life can sit on the dole or in prison.
Its not just a case of vandalism. This is total destruction.
It must have take so long to do this amount of damage.
Was it a gang or did one individual take a very long time doing this?
If it was a gang, why would they be armed with tools. Premeditated? Revenge of some sort?
