Walsall today made former Newcastle trainee midfielder Martin Britton their first signing of the transfer window in time for an FA Cup debut against Millwall tomorrow.
The 23-year-old wide right player has joined the Saddlers on a short-term contract after spending time with Carlisle and Scunthorpe already this season.
“Martin fits our profile perfectly,” said manager Richard Money. “He’s young, has a good pedigree and has had a good upbringing at both Newcastle and Ipswich.
“He’s our type of footballer and I am sure that somewhere he will really kick-start his career. We hope that we can give him the right environment to do that here.”
Brittain began his career at St James’ Park, making one start in the FA Cup and seven substitute appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.
He spent a year at Ipswich but made just one appearance from the bench before heading on loan to Yeovil, for who he played 16 times.
He began this season with Carlisle, making one start and one appearance as a substitute before heading to Scunthorpe, where he did not play.
He could make his debut against Millwall torrow with Richard Money warning his Saddlers side that they must respect Millwall.

Ok……I have agred with everything that DD has done this season, but does he not have faith in Sonko or Hall now then?
If that’s the case it will be interesting to see if he sends one of them out on loan or sells them! With such a small squad of first team players can we afford to have 3 right wingers at the club? I would agree that neither has performed consistantly enough…..UMM …..reserve judgement!
Well Done DD for being the first Midlands Mgr to do anything in the transfer window……best of luck to Martin for his time with us!
KEEP IT UP SADDLERS! Very tough game this weekend…..Milwall won’t want to be beaten 3 times by us this season, great motivation for them! Can’t quite see what our motivation is, other than 4th round, as our main focus has to be the league and with such a small squad a cup run won’t do us any good unless we make enough money to bring in a couple more players. Will be interesting game on Saturday.
KEEP THE FAITH AND SING FROM THE KICK OFF!!!!!
