Walsall boss vow on Fox sale

Walsall star Daniel FoxWalsall manager Richard Money has told contract rebel Daniel Fox the club will go to a transfer tribunal in the summer rather than sell him in January.

Money confirmed that Fox has turned down a new long-term contract, with Leeds ready to pounce for the 21-year-old left-back.

But Money is adamant he is prepared to let Fox see out the remainder of Saddlers contract and take his chances at tribunal in the summer.

“We think we’ve made him a good offer but obviously he’s hearing there’s a bit of interest,” said Money.

“If he doesn’t sign his contract we’ll go to a tribunal, but hopefully between now and then he’ll sign,” he added.

‘We desperately want him to stay.”

Fox has been offered a similar contract to those signed by Anthony Gerrard, Mark Bradley and Troy Deeney, who have all committed their futures to the Saddlers until the summer of 2010.

But Fox is delaying a decision on his future with several other clubs known to have watched him during his impressive form of the last year.

Leeds have already had a bid worth more than £250,000 turned down by Walsall and the Whites appear to be in pole position to sign him if he decides to move on.

ih he wants to leave and doesnt care enough for the club who rescued his career then i think e should cash in on him while we can if leeds are daf enough to spend the money on him why turn it down.

How is it that clubs in administration are allowed to sign any players, particularly if a fee is involved? If Leeds have got £250k (or more) going spare surely it should be going to their creditors. The way they’ve run their club in the past doesn’t convince me that they could pay anyway; if I were DD or JB I’d want any money delivered in used notes in an attache briefcase!

Mattsaddler, agree mate, but we should hold out and get as much for him as we can, problem is how can you play a player that clearly does’nt have his head on Walsall FC due to all these rumours, hence his last sending off!

Dicky Dosh is correct, we rebuilt his career, we deserve reward, if he does not wat to stay, do not let him go for nothing. £1m or rot in the reserves. Its funny its the same agent as for Keates and Westwood, dont you think they would wish to be in in a Div 1 playoff spot now? Money isn’t everything, unless yor Dicky Dosh.

    Towcester saddler,
we are no longer in administration, all the above ha been dealt with, we incurred 25 points worth of deductions in about 3 months, over the last 4 years our financial problems have cost us our ground, our training ground and relegation TWICE, we are rebuilding now and snapping up your (soon to be our) promising left back is part of that.

    Jon Saddler,
£1m are you having a laugh?
let him rot in the reserves, can you small town club afford to keep someone who you wont play?
there’s 4 months left of the season, do you want £250K now or shall we have him on a bosman then?

Signed, League one champions 07/08, Leeds United

Leeds in admin? you’ve gotta be joking, we have zero debts now and with 25-30K gates paying £20-30 a time we will me making more profit than 95% of clubs.

the way your club is run is an absolute joke. Here is a player who we rescued from a potential career in non-league football. He was awful last year and has finally improved.
£250K upfront or nothing. You cant seem to afford it upfront though can you?!.
What was your average gate last year? Was it around 14k or so? I may be wrong and I’ll hold my hand’s up if I am but if I’m right you’re not quite as loyal as many think
Champions this year? I doubt it. Ever since your match at our place, it’s clear your “seige” mentallity has worn off and you’re being shown up just a little.
Swansea and Forest automatic. You’ll have to take your chances in the playoffs, quite possibly like us. And they’re a lottery. Fox has as much chance of playing for us in the Championship as you at this current time.
The thing is though, you should’ve been relegated to League 2 for last seasons jokes. If this were Italy, it would’ve been done. Wang eye Wise can go jump. He wont get the form out of Fox like DD has. That’s guaranteed.

A classic case of small-club syndrome. God help us if we have to slum it down here for another couple of years like Forest.

Fox just wants to join a bigger, better club that has more interest attached to it. Can you really blame him? At Leeds he will be paid more, playing infront of bigger crowds and with much better players. He will also be living in Gods own county of Yorkshire - which of course is far superior to the grotty hellhole that is Walsall. I went to the game last month and it was grim.

Amd 14k!? Where did you get that figure? Our prices were the highest in the league and we stil got 31,000 in our last home game when we were relegated.

    Walsalls average - 15 and a dog
    When Leeds arrive - 10,000+

    WE’RE NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE

Yes we were badly run financially but that was more than 6 years ago and we’ve subsequently paid the price. Of the £110m owed in 2002 we paid back the vast majority through ground and player sales.

At what point are we allowed to wipe the slate clean and move forward in your eyes?

BTW - we avereged 22k last season with tickets 70% of the ground costing £37. Not bad don’t you think?

    Sam-
I don’t think £250k upfront is an issue for us at all.
We have played 13 home games (league alone) with an average crowd of 27,200, we’ll round that down to a total of 350,000 ticket prices ranging from £15 (twice this season) to £30 working very conservatively on an average price of £20 that means £7m worth of gate reciepts in the first half of the season alone, now consider we started the season with no debts, we have loaned out players (reduced wage bill) and are working with a relatively small squad, we have cash to burn!! oh not forgetting the £1m compenstation from spurs for 17 year old Danny Rose and the £635K for Gus Poyet, short of cash? I think not, You should appreciate the big gate we gave you, it’ll never happen again in the league!
You may aswell swallow your pride now and take whats on offer, either that or hold your heads high in the summer knowing you didn’t “give in” to leeds and let him go on a bosman, full of pride but with empty wallets!!

as for your ambitions of the playoffs, where would you be with a 15 deduction? the relegation zone me thinks! try aiming for hitting form like leeds, forest, swansea and carlisle and you might be somewhere near!

Luton town might be able to help you with some cut price replacements although I suppose your moral high ground about clubs in administration would mean you’d feel like you were taking advantage and would look at the situation in the same light if you were benfitting from it.

I hope for you sake (the fans) you never have to go through what we have.

guys its the cycle of football… we lost many players as a result of our downfall…Kewell to liverpoool for £2m, bowyer, lennon, milner, robinson etc etc etc… the list goes on.
