Stunned residents who were awoken by the sounds of gunfire have spoken of their shock at a shooting in their quiet Dudley street.
People living in Park Road, Woodsetton, were horrified to discover a 35-year-old man had apparently been shot by two raiders who stole the briefcase he was carrying just before 8am today. The victim was rushed to hospital with head and stomach injuries, but his condition is not thought to be life threatening.
Groups of residents gathered together at a shopping arcade near the scene of the shooting to talk about the robbery and watch as police scoured the area for clues.
One woman, who lives just yards from the scene and who did not want to be named, said she heard two shots and a car “skidding” away.
She said: “I thought it was a car back-firing at first, but when I looked out of the window I saw one of my neighbours running after the car shouting at it to stop.
“It’s really scary to think this sort of thing can happen in a quiet street.
“It’s not the sort of thing you want to hear happening around here at all.”
Another resident, who also did not want to be named, said she could not believe it when her neighbour told her what had happened.
She said: “I heard a few noises, but didn’t think anything of it until my neighbour came round to tell me what had happened.
“You just can’t believe something like this could happen down here.
“Everyone’s talking about it, but the police aren’t telling us what’s happened.”
Ward councillors Doreen Ameson and Julian Ryder said they were shocked by the incident.
“It’s disgraceful - it’s so worrying for residents, especially happening at that time in the morning,” Councillor Ameson said.
“It’s the sort of thing that doesn’t happen here.
“I just hope the person is alright and that the police get whoever did it.”
Councillor Ryder added: “We have had trouble with youngsters down here, but nothing of this nature. I’m really shocked.
“You don’t expect it round here but these things seem to be coming closer and closer all the time.”

all i can say its getting worse i think we should have armed police
Anyone Injuring or killing a person with a gun should be executed, its the only way to start and cut crime, the only thing is we have a pathetic govermant.
If someone is caught and convicted in connection with a gun crime then the only penalty should be death, but the PC whiners will never let it happen. This scum does not care who gets hurt or killed so why should we care about them. Put them to sleep. A bullet to the head is best, it’s cheaper than electricity etc. Go ahead, make my day!!

I totally agree… BUT I think it would be better, if these scumbags like guns so much why not a five year stint in Iraq, Afganhistan etc. on the front line. No cost to society, serving the country and you never know, they might come back with a little respect… for themselves and others!!!
REPLY TO EX PAT IN FRANCE. YES DESPITE ADVERSE PUBLICITY ABOUT THE USUAL 350 BURNT CARS HERE OUTSIDE PARIS AT NEW YEAR I NOW FEEL SAFER IN THE PARIS EAST END THAN I DO IN DUDLEY AND BIRMINGHAM.THE POLICE HERE ARE ALSO VERY EVIDENT ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
I agree ,5 years army frontline service for any guncrime and hanging for any convicted murderer .
this would also free up prison space as i bet there are atleast a couple of thousand murders soaking up taxpayers money while the victim of their crime are gone forever .
HUMAN RIGHTS MY A***, EYE FOR AN EYE I SAY
