Albion blog: Consistency is key

albion-bristol-26.jpgThe boys managed to shake off the disappointment of the Stoke game in blistering fashion, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

And I am sure every Albion fan will join me when I say, I am so glad we have not got to play them again this season (please god not Stoke in the playoffs).

Bristol City were on the wrong end of our frustrations and if it had not been for a poor referee (worst one yet this season) and some poor finishing we could have witnessed double figures.

Not only can we play some wonderful football, score lots of goals, and pass teams of the pitch, what is so pleasing now is that we are doing it on a regular basis.

The difference this season compared to the last is the consistency; we witnessed on Saturday the collective belief that we will eventually score goals.

The Bristol team worked their absolute socks off, but we have become so relentless in attacking the opposition’s goal that once we score one and the opposition’s game plan changes we are able to steamroller teams.

Next up is Scunthorpe, and it is important going into 2008 that we keep winning.

The last three games were all difficult fixtures but we have come out on the other side with six points and sit top of the table, and with nearly a fully fit squad to choose from the rest of the league must be green with envy, including a certain club down the road who cannot buy a goal.

I would like to mention what a wonderful job Bednar has done over the last month, with Phillips and Miller injured he has performed fantastically well and scored goal after goal.

I just hope we have already agreed a fee for his services before coming on loan.

If you had to put a figure on him now we might be looking at 2-3 million quid, and personally I would happily still pay it.

Well Santa forgot my Nintendo Wii box, but I am still smiling.

Happy New Year to you all, and lets hope 2008 brings us all what we really want.

Boing boing.

Hi Jarrod - you are spot on that consistency is key.

Last season I don’t think we won a game in November which left us trailing during the hectic christmas schedule.

This season we have only lost back to back games once, and that was back in october S’ton & Colchester away - and we scored 2 goals in each of those games too (our crazy 2-3 period).

Consistency comes from confidence, and this is another thing that TM has instilled in the squad - they ALL believe they will win games, and if we do lose one (like at Stoke) they believe they will win the next one !!

Confidence, consistency and style - its GOTTA be a winning combination !

Happy New Year everyone & Boing Boing !!

Having the big squad is now paying dividends as we start to get back to full strengh, other clubs are now getting their odd injury to a major player and can’t perform to their league position. TM is right I think we still are going to have bad days and that’s not because we have play bad it’s only that we don’t finish teams off enough but hey we are Albion we don’t expect to have it easy.

Keep up the fantastic football TM it’s a pleasuer to travel from Plymouth these days as I now have a smile on my face for the return journey.

Happy New Year to all Boing Boing!!

Nice article.I do worry, however that Peace has said that we need to sell before we bring in any new players. We need a keeper and we should not have to sell any of our players to bring him in.

Saying that Hartson, Chaplow and Wallwork should move on…thing is…who wants them?

Peace also said that January is a tome for fine tuning not for major changes, and bearing in mind the message of consistency posted above I would tend to agree. A goalkeeper would be fine tuning , although I agree with you divingbaggie don’t know who could be sold to generate the funds as I dont think your candidates would fetch much.
Perhaps we could get Kuszczak back on loan.
Roll on Sat Happy New Year to all including those in The Dark Side, now there is debate about wholesale changes !

great blog again Jarrod. Ive witnessed some great times at the hawthornes, ive stood in all the stands old and new. I was there through the Giles-Atkinson era, and saw the likes of Batson, Statham, Laurie, Cyrille, Bomber and co, and rightly so those times and people are etched in our minds forever. And i sit now and watch a team that for me is the very best ive seen since then, and if we keep developing the way we are at the moment, i really believe that the class of 2007-2008 is going to at least equal if not surpass those great names from our past. Confidence, quality, belief, entertainment, premiership, are all words to be associated with our great team again. Lets hope that this keeps on rolling

i think there are a few who could be moved on, but your right divingbaggie, we need to find somebody who wants them.
Wallwork, Chaplow, Hartson, Nicholson, are the prime candidates.

The football TM has installed into this team is the best ive seen in 20 years of following the albion, i thought that we needed a hard man midfielder to break up play and get stuck in, but i dont anymore as we keep possesion of the ball for long periods , our midfield is far superior to the other teams we play, especially when greening starts to dictate and boss things, he has been a complete different player this season since he was made captain , i have friends who are hearts fans and they told me bednar was a class act and that he works his socks off for the team and they were right hes been brilliant to come into the team and score really important goals, so just keep it going albion and we will win this league no problem

happy new year to you all, great blog jarrd.

a keeper is what we need most of all not that keiley is doing a bad job but i feel he is a little complacent as he knows he will be picked his kicking worrys me a little but have to say i think he is one of the best shot stoppers in the division i normally sit in the smethwick end just behind the goal and some of his match winning saves have been outstanding i just feel with a little more compotition he will be even sharper as he loathes not playing TM is spot on with what he says evn the best teams have off days but even when we lose we outplay those teams i know that sounds hipocritical but the games we have lost we should have won

have a good 2008 and keep boinging

Just looking at the table after 24 games played.

We are 7 points and 7 goals better off than after the same amount of games last season. Our home goal difference is identical. Our away goal difference is today +4 compared to -3 last season.

Our squad is nearly back to full strength. Things are looking pretty good in the camp.
We are all enjoying some of the best footie we have seen played by the Baggies for years. 2008 is coming nicely into view for us on the footie front.

Keep up the great work lads,

TM we have huge faith in you.

    Hello Jarrod.
I agree consistency IS the key & I’m also with you on Roman Bednar, the last couple of games he has covered every blade of grass, his workrate is phenomenal, however, I can’t agree with your comments regarding the ref, this proves to me that you were’nt at the Sheffield Wednesday match. THAT was possibly the worst display of refereeing witnessed at the Hawthorns in many a year, resulting in Mogga having to attend an FA inquiry to explain his actions following the final whistle (97 mins) BOING BOING.

I Agree But SINCE THE GAME AGAINST CHARLTON BEDNAR AND PHILLIPS HAVE BEEN SCORING IN EVERY GAME GET TM TO ASK MILLER TO PASS BECAUSE HE IS SELFISH WITH THE BALL
