Baggies hope for cut-price boost

kopen.jpgAlbion are hoping for their second successive capacity gate at The Hawthorns after announcing Saturday’s clash against Scunthorpe is ‘Kids for a Quid’.

The Baggies were boosted by a bumper Boxing Day crowd of 27,314 for their 4-1 win over promotion rivals Bristol City yesterday.

And after slashing prices for youngsters for Saturday’s visit of Scunthorpe, the club are hoping for similar backing at the weekend as fans flock to see another promotion push.

Manager Tony Mowbray was delighted with the backing the crowd gave the team yesterday.

He said: “It was very pleasing to see the ground full. I hope as we go on and keep picking up points it will be a much more common sight. I think that extra impetus the crowd gives us at times drives a team on.”

The scheme has had a positive effect on crowds before, with ‘Kids for a Quid’ attracting the top two crowds in 2007-08 after yesterday’s turnout and the Black Country derby draw against Wolves, a seasonal best 27,493.

An attendance of 24,757 watched the first Kids for a Quid game against QPR on Sunday, September 30, a game screened live on Sky.

Albion had a gate of 22,030 for the second match under the scheme against Blackpool on Tuesday, October 23.

Tickets for Albion’s final fixture of 2007 are now on general sale for Saturday’s game ( 3pm kick-off).

The ticket office is open today and tomorrow between 9am-5pm and from 9am on Saturday right up until kick-off for fans to claim their seats for Scunthorpe’s first League visit to The Hawthorns. The teams have met three times in the FA Cup, with the Baggies winning 3-1 in 1970-71 and 1-0 in 1983-84.

Happy, you are very quiet at a time when I would expect to see your pearls everywhere. I hope your absence is due to Christmas and not to poor health. Happy New Year to you and Forever and Baggies everywhere.

Hi Malvern. Thank you for enquiring but I am pleased to report only kids and mince pies are keeping me away from here - hence the ungodly time i am posting today whilst not at work (my turn on baby duty)…

Not much I can add that hasn’t been said - great performance to bounce back from our annual drubbing at Stoke, another masterclass from from SuperKev and a full ground… what will LCW etc find to chuck at us now (where are they all by the way ?).

Looking forward to the Scunny match - a different set of problems to overcome but I think the boys are getting a head of steam up now so I’m hopeful (confident ?) of seeing the new year in as league leaders.

Just to wish all football fans a Happy New Year - and to Adie Baker - hope you havn’t forgtton our litte MM bet - I reckon i will be collecting !!!

BOING BOING & LOVIN IT !

Great to see the ground full and buzzing like it used to. There is nothing like a full passionate Hawthorns, its makes such a difference! The boys are playing the best football I have seen for many a year and its a joy to watch. Why we are not packed to the rafters every week is beyond me when we are as entertaining as we are and scoring for fun.

Come on you Baggies! Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Attendances are down on a national scale despite how well or how poor some teams are doing.
Ticket pricing is an area that all clubs need to have a major rethink. Its obvious that many clubs got their pricing structure wrong this season.
