Friends open music club

wd2515473roadhouse-jm-19.jpgA new £250,000 live music venue and restaurant has been launched by two pals on Brierley Hill’s Waterfront. Roadhouse has been opened by Black Country DJ Matthew Bullock and friend Matthew Conyers.

The pair have ploughed £250,000 into the venture which is now up and running at the former Academy club at the Waterfront complex opposite Merry Hill. It has become the latest live music venue in the Dudley borough joining the likes of Rock Cafe 2000 and JB’s.

The new venue features a giant stage and a restaurant will also open at the site in January.

The club also includes new unique self-service drinks towers at the bar where customers can fill their own pitchers for their table.

Matthew Bullock, of Solihull, decided to take over the old Academy club when the lease came up.

He said: “I was DJ-ing at DY5, which is another one of the club’s on the Waterfront, when I noticed the Academy was up for grabs and we decided to go for it.

“Roadhouse is quite different because it is going to be a live entertainment venue with bands, comedians and karaokes.”

It is the first venture for Mr Bullock’s new company M & M Leisure Ltd and if it is successful it is hoped more Roadhouse venues could be opened. Mr Bullock added: “This is a test case and if it goes well we will be looking into creating a small chain.”

It is planned to open Roadhouse from as early as 8am for workers to enjoy coffee and hot drinks in the mornings. It has a licence to open until 2am.

Entertainment will include tribute acts on Friday and Saturday nights with original band nights during the week.

Once a month there will be a comedy night and the venue will also stage karaoke evenings with cash prizes and DJ nights as well.
