A thug who punched a woman to the ground during a row in Wolverhampton and then stabbed her in the liver while she lay defenceless has been locked up for five years.
Marvin McEwan, of Hailes Park Close, Parkfields, was aged 19 when he attacked the woman in a fight between neighbours. McEwan, now 21, and his girlfriend were in tears as he was sent down at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Mr Kevin Grego, prosecuting, said the dispute broke out in Hobgate Road, Heath Town, two years ago over a neighbour’s child.
Recorder Simon Rafferty said: “You took the law into your own hands and you wouldn’t let it rest when your neighbour said he hadn’t been involved in anything.
“You took out a knife and took a swing at this man but missed, then, in a considerable act of bravery, his wife stepped in to help her husband.
“You then struck her in the face and knocked her down and when she was in no position to defend herself you stabbed her.
“You could have killed her, the injury was very deep and nicked her liver. It was a grave and terrible offence.”
McEwan was found guilty of wounding with intent and affray following a trial.
Recorder Rafferty said: “If you had had the courage to plead guilty I could have given you some credit but this offence is so serious the only way I can deal with it is custody.”
Mr Michael Anning, defending, said McEwan’s crime was totally out of character and he had no previous convictions.
He said: “He is of good character and had a good school record with exemplary attendance.”
Recorder Rafferty added: “This was out of character and you did what you did in the heat of the moment. I am sorry for the people who will suffer more than you, your partner and daughter.”

Our sentencing guidelines need reviewing cause this piece of trash will be out on 2 1/2 years.

if you pick up a knife and use it on somebody you should be done for attempted murder. We are to soft on these idiots.
