£10 in, free gloves, a great game, and now we are top of the league! writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
Christmas came early on Saturday, my opinion is that Charlton and Albion are the best passers of the ball in this division and most fans turned up expecting a good game, and we were not disappointed.
Even when Charlton equalised I do not think there was a single fan who thought it was the end of the goals, Gera’s copycat thunder header and a trademark Phillips poacher goal giving us the three points.
To see super Kev reeling away to celebrate his 11th goal of the season was just the icing on a big fat tasty cake, back with a bang, and now the rest of the division have to chase us.
Almost half-way through the season and I have still not witnessed any other team that worries me, yes the division from top to bottom is tighter than a drum, and any team seems to be able to beat another on any given day, but I think the standard this season is lower than last season and is there for the taking.
We all felt that if we could be there or thereabouts come January and our new players had started to gel, we could push on in the latter part of the season.
So how good does it feel to be top going into the Christmas programme, and all plaudits must go to Tony and the boys for having achieved so much so soon.
On top of this, we now have a number of players returning to the first team squad, Mowbray must be scratching his head as to who to play, the fringe players who have stepped into the team in recent games have all done exceptionally well, and could well be disappointed not to even get a shirt let alone start.
As the rumour mill goes into full swing ready for the January transfer window, we find ourselves looking inwards rather than outward. We are all hoping Gera puts pen to paper on a new deal, and Mowbray signs up Cesar, Miller, and Bednar on permanent deals. Bednar has taken his chance with both hands, and personally I believe he could forge a devastating partnership with the returning Phillips, and with Miller on the bench I almost feel sorry for the opposition.
If, and it is a big if, Mowbray decides to dip into the transfer madness, we must be an attractive move for any player looking to play in this division, top of the league and playing the type of football any player should want to be part of.
So Albion fans, have you already got what you wanted for Christmas??
I can almost forgive Santa for forgetting my Raleigh Chopper in 1983!!!

great game, and things get better all the time. Don’t get to many matches now, but was privilegded to be at this one. Heard there was a chec keeper at the Hawthorns Saturday, eager to sign for us in January. No1 one keeper in chec league last season.
Jarrod
All will become evident in the fullness of time,
but i believe JP`s reluctance to dip
Albion`s proverbial toe into the January transfer waters, will come to an end.
Strengthening the squad from a position of strength, is a previously unknown luxury to us,
but i DO think this will happen,
notwithstanding the uncertainty over
Zolly and Alby.
Cesar and Bednar will be signed up,
there can be little doubt about that,
and in Cesar….well i have not seen a CH at the Baggies since Martyn Bennett that looks so comfortable with the ball.
We are being accused of being cocky
by our friends down the road,
but it is becoming increasingly
difficult not to wax lyrically
about watching this TOTAL football.
Out of the blue, Pele confounds all his critics, and looks born to play
at CH alongside “Bostin”
(sorry people, i realise this comment is rather fragmented,
just so many good things to say)
TM has the “headache” that all managers want,
but as sure as night follows day
whatever his team selection is,
they will play only one way.
And the Brazil fans sing,
It`s just like watching West Brom.
Having watched your game on Saturday “Am I jealous”? Well “YES” It appears we are along way off the flowing football you displayed. I just hope we get close to you guys by the end of the season. If we can we will both be going up
Hey Jarrod i love your blogs make me smile. I agree, Hopefully we will sign the Chez keeper in the new year fingers crossed.
This xmas is awsome top of the league, best players coming back im sooooo happy.
I feel sorry for the dingles doom and gloom LOL…..Boing boing…..
Happy holidays
Good blogg as per usual jarrod.
Not much to add - you have captured the warm feeling most Albion fans have at the moment very well.
Don’t think we will too active in the transfer window - but the Luke Moore rumour isn’t going away is it ?
It would make sense to have him on loan till the end of the season and then use him as part of the Curtis davies deal (thus keeping the money out of Luton).
He could be the long term replacement for Kev Phillips and could be great with Ish - but who knows…..
Yes Jarrod I was at the game and agree yet again with what you say,we are by far the best footballing side in the championship..BUT there are teams that bully us(stoke) in particular. I dont think they have a player under 6ft 4ins so they rely on the long ball and free kicks around the box, this is where we need to keep our cool and not get sucked into their dirty style of play ,if we can do that to the lesser talented teams then we will be there at the end.Boing Boing
and a Merry Xmas to ALL Baggie fans, heres to a bostin new year.
I was at the ‘68 cup final and I missed only one game at home in ‘78 and I’m saying this team are technically far superior and much fitter than the greats of both eras. Yes, ‘78 was a quality side, every one a legend and maybe the defence was a stronger unit, but the passing, movement and desire that I saw at the weekend is the best I’ve ever seen at the Albion. And you can put that in your Xmas pipe and smoke it!
It’s a shame that Phillips and Robinson couldn’t play on Saturday but well done you for giving Right said Fred the chance to make a comeback. Nice one Baggies.
Can’t be right - £10 in and you just scraped 20,000 for a top of the table clash. With the footie you’re playing you should have had a full house, even with it being on the telly, and even with full admission prices.
Wolves v Leicester, on the telly, prices reduced by 25% only, two crap, boring teams. Watch our attendance.
You’re a Prem club in waiting, on the pitch, in the boardroom, everywhere except fan base potential. Still, I suppose the 18,000 regulars don’t care do ya :-)))
Darlo Dingle
May i call you Darlo Wolves fan,
because you use wise words that defy
“dingle”
You are absolutely right, you say
18,000 i`ll say 20,000, the stay aways are missing a treat.
Ironic isn`t it 34,000 tickets for Wembley,
could have sold half as many again,
i guess there are glory hunters at every club mate.
Darlo Dingle: I assume you were one of the 1,750 who used to turn up to see your shower in the pre-Bull 80s. Happy days.
Cracking blog Jarrod, I don’t always agree with you, especially when they’re laden with doom & gloom but i’m with you on every point this time.
Saturday was freezing, but we all came away with a nice warm glow and long may it continue.
