Skipper Karl Henry believes the Wolves fight back has begun.
The Molineux men stopped the rot with a goalless draw at QPR and midfield man Henry saw enough evidence in the second half to suggest Wolves are on the brink of a recovery.
Henry has pinpointed a crisis of confidence as the underlying reason for Wolves’ recent slump – and admits that was behind their disappointing first half performance at Loftus Road.
“The way we played in the second half was back to the way we know we can play. We’ve got to go on from here really – we have to build on that second half,” he said.
“No-one can quite put their finger on why we haven’t been performing. Confidence is a big thing – mentally you have to be strong and you can’t let any fragility seep into your game.
“But for some reason we haven’t been ‘at it’ in recent weeks. It’s not been for lack of effort, that’s for sure.
“I think in the second half of the QPR we’ve probably reminded people that we can play a bit.
“The last 45 minutes at QPR has put is in good stead mentally though. We got a good point away from home at the end of the day and it is something to build on.
“I suppose before the season started we’d have looked at QPR away and thought that was a chance to take the three points but in the end we’ll have to take the point.”
Henry is now looking forward to the Christmas programme, which he believes will be vital in the promotion race.
Wolves host Leicester on Saturday before travelling to Hull and Norwich after Christmas. They round off the festive period with a home game against Sheffield United – and Henry can’t wait.
“Christmas is very important – we need to get a few wins.”

‘But for some reason we haven’t been ‘at it’ in recent weeks. It’s not been for lack of effort, that’s for sure’
No……its been lack of quality……passion……creativity……goals…..(I could go on).
Mick needs to sort out his team selection(injuries allowing) and STICK to it for a few games!!
Our strikers need to be told to SHOOT at any given opportunity. You get the feeling their scared to shoot for fear of missing!! I’d rather our strikers take 20 shots on goal and not score, than take 2 shots on goal, run about like speedy gonzalez and still NOT score.
I am sure it is only a temporary lull in form. Good to see the lads seem to think it is coming back in to the good old Wolves fighting and fast passing game.
We need to win all the games over christmas now, not 1 or 2.
What we need is to drop yourself or Oli, put Gibson in the center & get Gobern fit, maybe bring back Bennett on loan from Crewe and play him wide right or put Jarvis wide right
The fight back as started?
There are too many players in this squad who believe if they turn up, they will get a game.I was there on Saturday & believe me, compared to the highlights of the Baggies game I saw yesterday, Wolves WERE poor.
Fightback? How come it ended goal-less?
Get the blinkers off Mick.Get a dvd of the aforementioned Baggies game & see how they do it.
The fightback has started with a nil nil at qpr, big wow.All none season ticket holders rush out and buy your half season ticket for xmas.
Message for McCarthy
“You don’t know what your doing!”
Yea we’ll see
Well Mick said this time last week we would be roaring so excuse me if I don’t get too excited yet!
Skipper Karl Henry believes the Wolves fight back has begun. LOL all i can say is that comment is Sooooo funny. Great fight back…..Boing boing
To get to the premiership we need more than a few wins, we need ALL the remaining matches to be won. At the moment we can only rely on Hennessy and Kights when he will return. That only makes two and we should have at least another nine playing in the team at any time. Padding ourselves on the back for not loosing at QPR is a pathetic state of affairs!
Sorry Baggies but when you lose your next game vs Stoke (you never beat them) you’ll be calling for Moanbray’s head!
We will see in January how serious MM/Morgan is about a return to the Prem.We need to buy some quality into the team which means we will have to buy Premiership class not bargain basement. This team is nowhere good enough to compete in the premiership ist sad to say but the only team capable of staying in the Prem at the moment is WBA.
Who is he trying impress with his remarks about turning the corner. Bul….t get dynorod in and the cheque book out the stripey lot are on the march. We are just drifting along lets have some action from the top before we head for the bottom. I get sick of listening to these excuses, with the exception of our keeper, our only two quality players are in the Doctors Surgery Remedy ? £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
Captain comments from a good footballer with a Wolves heart… Karl the rest of the team with the exception of you, kites and hemmersay are rubbish.
The problem is that we have four strikers with zero confidence and until that changes we have a serious problem as we did in the mid eighties.
Kites will be out over the Xmas Period. Is it me or is the fitness of the team suffering since sicknote took over the Fitness side of life. This season it seems like an age before we get players fit again. Hopefully breen won’t be fit enough to feature over christmas, that is all we need right now, him in the defence just headering and kicking it straight up in the air.
By the way has anybody noticed that we have not had a midfield this season as all i have seen is the defenders kicking it up field and hoping the forwards get on the ball.
We need confidence in the team and it is not just the dip in results we have had recently, we have been playing with no confidence all season apart from one or two games worthey of note.
From a very depressed Wolves fan.
C’Mon The Wolves, Keep The Faith
“Should’ve gone to Specsavers!”
Is Karl related to Lenny?
Come back Incy, all is forgiven!
So Henry thinks his glass is half full? I think most Wolves fans would think it was half empty! We won’t be going anywhere unless we start scoring goals and for that, we desperately need a “Bully” type player in the opponents penalty area. Something we have been missing all season.
We aren’t gonna get any premiership stars in during the January transfer window because it would break the wage structure and MM doesn’t want that sort. Sure, the team is lacking confidence and important players at the moment but the only way the fans can help is by backing them during a difficult period like we did last year.
Xmas is almost upon us.
‘Tis the season of goodwill to all men, BUT NOT TURKEY’S.
Please give us fans a traditional Xmas, Mr.Morgan.
Roast the turkey and give us a simple little gift —- A PROPER MANAGER.
15: essex uni wolf:-
The difference between this team & the team from the Mid 80’s is that McCarthy has’nt been forced to sell his best players & the managers gave the kids a chance i.e.Jamie Smith, Dave Wintersgill, Danny Crainie….
Hope history does’nt repeat itself.
Remember what happened when Harry Marshall sold out to the Bhatti brothers?
I think Karl is talking aload of DOG POO! If we get 3 points on Sat then the fight might have started!
I agree with 19 ref “Bully” type player or we should get him on the coaching team, he nows where the back of the net and what it means to the fans.
KEEP THE FAITH WE WILL GET BACK UP THERE!!!
We aint going up unless we buy some quality, simple as…
Mary Christmas - lol
Spot on.
MM has always told it as it is, but now he has taken this team as far as he can and is making excuses for them, like supporting Elliot for missing a sitter instead of slating him for costing us the game, like praising Bothroyd for his workrate when he hasn’t looked like scoring for months.
Sorry Mick but it’s time for Morgan to give you your cards and get Ince in to push us on to at least the play off’s before we start to slide down the table.
dropping you karl henry would be a start. How he is captain i don’t know. how mm can play him instesd of gibson or mark davies is in the midddle is beyond me.Alot of wolves fans seem to think he is a good player. he may be a wolves fan but he ain’t good enough.this a player who couldn’t get in stoke 1st team.
To gain promotion you will need to score goals and I think you are to light up front. You’ll need to get a goal scorer in the January window and hope he gets off to a good start. Defensivly you are ok Best in the devision (19) It’s up front you have the problems 4th worst (22)
“The way we played in the second half”….. am i missing something here oh yes QPR should have had a penalty and we did not score, how is that a positive outcome!!!!!
though i agree we,re crap and may soon need a new guy, im thinking ..
who ??
paul ince .. good yes but good at championship level ??
any others may not have the same effect as MM (last year).
my view is stick with him and see how he motivates the lads.
also check who and importantly how many players he buys.
if he fails to motivate and buy then we either wait to see if we make it when murray is back(if we REALLY need him) and if our team can make play-offs.
until then .. mick. fight for your job by winning. good luck MM
I have heard it all before. We do not need any more strikers we need creative midfield players who can also get forward into the opposing penalty area.We do need some quality in January but I have a horrible feeling it will be more of the same. ie quantity rather than quality.
What Fightback? We are a point or two away from the play-offs, why is everyone at panic stations.
Our fixtures since Albion [Preston, Barnsley, Burnley and QPR] with Leicester, Hull, Norwich and Sheffield Utd to come, are so cushy MM might have fixed it! However, in true Wolves style, a combination of fear and low self esteem, we have managed only 4 points out of the first 12 available.
No doubt this will be the fault of us fans for daring to ask for more!
Come on lads stop asking us to believe, believe in yourselves and get this season back on course.
I usually keep patient and keep ‘the glass half full’ approach but it’s wearing thin now.
The heart and fighting spirit that was there last season seems to have disappeared. I sat there watching the game at the weekend and watched the players ‘body language’ as they moved around the pitch and they’re definitely not enjoying their football. This is either a devastating crash in confidence levels (what the hell is going on behind the scenes for a crash this serious?) or they simply don’t understand what the manager wants
Sorry Mick, your time is up, Ince should always have had the job and this season we are really seeing what you can do…..sweet FA! Steven Ward is not good enough and will never score why is he always in the team. Be nice to see some changes this festive season i.e MM, Jez Mox & Steven Ward on your bikes losers!!
I am so tired of this patronizing dribble. How can anyone take any positives out of fighting for a draw with the bottom of the table team? I’m losing it here. Has anyone at WWFC got any brains left? I give up! This article (and others like it) spells the problem right there … content with mediocrity. Anyone with any ambition and guts would come out and call it for what it is … a draw with the bottom team. Wahoo!! What a result! Here is the pattern we’ve seen: we struggle to win (1-0) or draw with bottom teams (and everyone wets themselves because they get excited about not losing), and lose as soon as we face a half-decent team. This team is just *NOT GOOD ENOUGH*! And that is the end of it.
So unless MM is going to buy some class in January, let’s all forget it and be content with mid-table mediocre football for another season.
I’m sick and tired of this patronizing, idiotic, post-game comments by players and managers alike.
If you want to say anything, do it on the field by winning games. If you can’t do that, then shut the **** up.
For god’s sake, it’s not confidence, it’s lack of ability. The manager’s motives are that every player has to run into the ground and ‘defend from the front’.
We have no ability, no guile, no class, no passion. And how we are 8th is beyond me. No, wait, it’s cos we have a bloody class goalkeeper. The rest (Kightly excluding) are a load of rubbish.
Shut your mouth Karl and let the talking do it’s work on the pitch and not in the media.
a bit of me hopes you do get up with us next season because whoever else comes with us will only help us stay in the Prem as we will only have one plcae to worry about in terms of religation!!!!!!
if we don’t create chances we don’t score - simple - to create chances we say to the midfield, “play in the opposition half for a change”
Result will be creativity - we’re far too defensively minded in midfield
FIGHTBACK. 0-0 draw against bottom of the league look out championship :-)boing boing
23 - do not get bully he is overweight at the moment. plus our squad is too young we need a few veterans to guide us. and we need to be a better team because we havnt been good for ages. i know ill get slated but i think we should sign john hartson on a 3 year contract.
Looks like Kermit has brainwashed him as well
The Mrs went to Peterborough at the weekend visiting relatives and watched Posh play MK Dons - she said that Incey has got MK Dons playing with passion and commitment and chasing everything down - taking no prisoners AND they won 2-1
The team looked like it had shape and purpose!!!
Why do players come out with trash like this. We had it last season no end of times telling us they they had turned the corner etc etc. Players should just keep their gobs shut and show it on the pitch.
God help us,if the QPR game signifies a fight back then I would hate to see a slump. What planet is this prat on.
I think that we’re doing well. There’s money in the bank for January. We’re in the top half of the table approaching Christmas. The manager, captain and team are expecting a “fightback” (though I’d take this with a pinch of salt and expect it to be a better average of points per game than we’ve had in the last three). The last thing the team needs is the Molineux boo boys who have infested this comment site.
Back the team or join the Baggies.
we need to win at least 3 of our christmas games, otherwise we can forget about promotion
SACK MM SACK HIM NOW!
Henry you are a clown, fightback would have been beating a relegation team 6 to nothing… how on earth can the draw be seen as anything other than pure crap football? Maybe you need to move along?
We are not going up, period. The table never ever lies. Goals scored is at relegation level and only the keeper and a huge slice of luck has kept us afloat. Since the Albion game the luck has gone and we are exposed as nothing better than QPR. I would not wish for anything else than being a Wolves fan but please can the E&S do me a favour for Christmas? Stop printing this mindless rubblish from players who simply have no inclination to get promoted, they are not good enough and they know it. Only two teams have Prem players and that is WBA and Watford, all we have is a keeper.
All said and done we aren’t good enough.
Please come back Incey we all love you, you are the man
Maybe its just me but i cant believe all the anti mick posts, fickleness, negativity, whingeing etc etc.
A lot of so called supporters have very short memories.
After the hoddle era (remember it anyone?)with our big squad,so called quality players and big wages, most were saying all they wanted to see were young promising players busting a gut giving 100% for the gold shirt for 90 minutes every game.
Well, in my opinion thats exactly what we,ve got now, this is no short term fix, instant success etc etc
Mick took the reigns at a time when the club was a shambles, well,at least on the playing side anyway.
His immediate task was to put eleven players out on the pitch that could survive at this level.
Id say that the play offs was acceptable wouldnt you ?. During this time and since, hes had to build the squad and create competition for places with very little tools.
The reality is we are lying in a good position in the league.
Yes,weve had a dip in form of late, but hey, no kights, craddock, breen etc is no coincidence. The eleven we,ve put out recently isnt our strongest but still they are giving 100%.
I simply cant agree with the views of sacking the manager and spending big money on so called quality players.
Havent we tried that before once or twice?
The fact is that this is a long term building plan, requiring at least some patience from so called fans…..lets get behind the club, staff and the players and give what the boys are giving…100% !
I suppose we could all go back to a hoddle, magee era eh ?
Rant over
Apart from being a bit cheaper, I can’t see the difference between the nearly men of Mick McCarthy and the nearly men of Dave Jones; the money of Sir Jack was frittered, and the money of Bob The Builder is stashed away. Big name divas, no name kids… results are the same. Not good enough nearly men with promises that we’re about to do well. Haven’t we heard it all before?
51. adie baker… what planet are you on, yes I agreee with last season but as Kermit put it himself last season counts for nothing now, its this season that counts. He has bought players that should do the job and they are not doing it. He does not have the bottle to drop them and replace them with players keeping the bench warm for the January transfer signings. This is no progression and we need to progress. Bring on Incy and while we’re on the subject Moxey should go too
51. Adie Baker - wise words indeed ! Most people must realise that the building of a team capable of even dreaming of playing well at the highest level is gonna take a long time. Personally, despite all the thrills it gave us, I think that the worst thing that happened last year was getting to the play-offs. Even then we were an average side that over performed. We are still an average side but the signs are there that a foundation is being built a la Kites, Gibson, Hennessey etc. No-one is going to build a team capable of doing what we all want in 2 years. It may take 5 years or more but without a solid foundation (which I think MM is providing) then any promotion to the premier will be followed by inevitable relegation the following season. Is that what true Wolves fans want to yo-yo between leagues ?
I think it’s about time some fans took off their rose-tinted glasses and see things how they really are. Having said that, every single one of us should get behind the manager and the team and continue to show that come rain or shine we are the WOLVES we are the GOLD & BLACK. Nothing should change that and for me nothing ever will !!
WHAT A LOAD OF C**P KARL HENRY HAS COME OUT WITH “”THE FIGHT BACK HAS STARTED NOW”",SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON IT’S NEVER STARTED,WOLVES ARE A LACKLUSTER CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE WHO’VE BEEN LUCKY IN THE PAST TO GET IN THE PLAY-OFF’S.LET’S ALL WOLVES FAN’S LIKE MYSELF HOPE FATHER CHRISTMAS CAN PERFORM MIRACLES BECAUSE MICK HAS LOST HIS MAGIC & TURNED INTO THE WICKED WITCH OF WOLVERHAMPTON.I’M BEGINNING TO THINK MICK McCARTHY’S IS TONY MOWBRAY’S ASSISTANT MANAGER & NOT MARK VENUS & NO FAITH IN A MANAGER THAT HAS NO ATTACKING TACTIC’S BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR WITH THE AMOUNT OF IRISH PANSIES IN THE TEAM IT’LL BECALLED WOLVERHAMPTON PRIDE OF THE EMERALD ISLE.
MICK MUST PICK HIS PLAYER’S TO BUY WITH A DART IN THE DARTBOARD,OBVIOUSLY HE KEEP’S MISSING THE BOARD & HIT’S THE WALL ,WOLVES SINCE WINNING THE PLAY-OFF’S & GETTING PROMOTED HAVE FAILED IN THE SEARCH FOR STRIKER’S,WHAT STRIKER’S ARE GOING TO COME TO MOLINEUX!!!!
STEVE MORGAN DO THE FAN’S A FAVOUR SACK McCARTHY SENDING PACKING TO ASIA & GET A MANAGER IN THAT KNOW’S WHICH NET THE BALL HAS GOT TO BE IN & HAS THE KNOWLEDGE WHAT PLAYER’S TO BRING IN!!!.
A VERY UNHAPPY WOLVES FAN
i usually scroll down the page and read comments left, but now i wont, the lack of support for mick is disgraceful a few bad games and everyone wants him out, give him a break and at least give him 2 the end of the season and SUPPORT THE TEAM FOR GOD SAKE!!!!
51 and 54 (Accept your comments)
Some problems though:
1. Have you seen the Gap in quality between the Premiership and Championship.
2. Gibson is only on Loan and Breen is a nugget and his Look alike Collins is no better. One and a Half seasons to put together Hennessey, Kightly and maybe Foley of possible premiership standard. MM has done well maybe in 5 years time he will have a team to grace Molineux. Oh i forgot them three players just mentioned probably won’t be here next year if we don’t get promoted, so it will be back to square one in the team building.
3. 5 Years is to long to build a team, if we don’t make it soon we will never stay in the premiership(especially if that bean counter Moxey is still at Molineux) because the club would be too scared to spend any money in case we got relegated like the last time.
4. I also have concerns over Morgan has he the heart for Wolves, or is it just a stepping stone as he never seems to have anything to say.
As i have said before MM has taken us as far as he can and thanks for last season, but are we all prepared to keep paying out our money to watch this rubbish every week.
That said i will be there on Saturday to get behind the players.
C’Mon The Wolves, Keep the Faith(we need alot of that at the moment).
Looking at our current league position, its not the end of the world. Agree that Karl’s comments abit off though. We should however as fans continue to support the team until we really turn the corner. i know its frustrating for us but as fans we will still be around come what may but at the moment we are only 7 points from the top…..really there is still alot of the season left to go. I can certainly say one thing though and that is all these negatives will surely coming through here will affect the team as a whole.
Still a long way to go wolves fans.
You’ve got some nice fixtures the next few weeks where as we have some difficult ones. Only a few points in it. you’re better than the teams above you, come join us in the premiership next year. A premiership black country derby is what we all want.
57. Unrealwolf - Accept what you say but unless some one of the stature of Abramovich moves in to the Molineux then it will take a long time. These days the £30m that Mr Morgan has is really going to do diddley squat unless that is backed up with bigger money - it’s unfortunate but that is the way the game has gone over the past few years. I know that you then get in to the argument about bringing in big name, big wage players but I think some of that will have to happen in order to bolster a young team. The other thing you have to rely on during this is player loyalty - like that shown by Steve Bull. We only want players who are prepared to stay loyal while the team is building.
But, as you say Unrealwolf like a true fan you’ll be there on Saturday and will support the team to the hilt. Wish I could get up more often to watch the games but believe me, wherever I am on a Saturday there’s only one question I have “How’s the Wolves doing ?”
funny mm was god after you had a lucky draw at albion you really are a fickle lot aint ya im just glad i was born a baggie :-)boing boing
No matter what the comments are the true fans WILL be there on saturday (Unlike certain other teams true fans)
As for terry - we’re glad you were born a baggie too that way we don’t have to associate ourselves with an illiterate moron who ends every sentence with the comic phrase “boing boing” does that refer to the fact that you have been, are & always will be a yo yo club ?
talk is cheap wish we had a team like the baggies sold 35 million pound worth of players in the summer still sh.. on us
wolfie no ones saying they are staying away
but take on board what people are saying
they are not happy mm and the way the team are playing
if you are then you are easily pleased
remove the blinkers and realise that if it continues then we can kiss this season goodbye and its another season gone
62 and wot phrase have you got to end your sentences with,oh i know wot it is GO NOW MICK PLEASE,as for being a yo yo club you have to bounce up first which is somthing you wont do
ho ho ho boing boing
65 - ignoramus
64 I’m not wearing blinkers I said that the fans will be there because thats the way they are - I don’t like the way we’re playing either & think that unless investment is made & creativity restored to the TEAM then we’ll struggle
