Breen set for festive rush-hour

Wolves' Gary BreenWolves skipper Gary Breen will be back for the packed Christmas programme.

The veteran defender returned to training this week and McCarthy is confident he will be available for duty when Leicester visit Molineux next weekend.

“Gary Breen is training again – he won’t be fit for the weekend but I think he’ll be fit for the Christmas games,” McCarthy said.

“He trained well this week and he’s joined everything we’ve done. He was with (fitness coach) Tony (Daley) last week and he’s back in training this week.”

The return of Breen is some much-needed good news on the injury-front, with key men Jody Craddock and Michael Kightly still out of action.

Neither of that pair are certain to play against Leicester, so McCarthy will be desperate to bring the experience of Breen back into the fold for the busy festive programme.

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed winger Lewis Gobern will be back in training next week after suffering a fresh injury setback.

Gobern could have filled the void left by the much-missed Kightly but he aggravated a long-standing hamstring injury last month.

Meanwhile, Steffen Iversen has ruled out a shock return to Wolves.

The Molineux men made an initial enquiry about the Norweigan striker this week as McCarthy stepped up his January transfer plans.

Iversen would fit the bill of the target man that McCarthy is looking to bring in, and he further enhanced his reputation with a hat-trick for Rosenberg in the midweek round of Champions League fixtures.

But Iverson has now ruled out a return, saying: “It’s not interesting for me to join Wolves on loan.”

Meanwhile, Steve Bull will be in the Mander Centre tomorrow signing copies of his calendar. The Molineux hero will be signing between 11am and 3pm.

Just wondered about the title of the thread? Does this mean that Breeny is doing some late night Christmas shopping again? ;-)

Great crack, 2 Baggie, but I expect nobody has more experience getting fit than Tony. In his heyday, he was the most exciting player on the scene. Too quick by half! And sprinters are prone to muscle pulls. Those hamstrings can be a real problem. He was so electric that one of my sons turned to the dark side and now supports Villa.

Hi Jacking the Breen story for a moment, did anyone catch Tony Butlers show last night on WM? the bit I heard suggested rumblings at Molineux, some story about Morgan having his own people scouting & choosing players for MM to sign?? any one know if this is true??

    10. Cashman, I didn’t listen to it but a mate of mine did. Apparently with some minor exceptions it was thought that Morgan has told MM of the crap players he has bought and that he (Morgan) is now gonna choose the players and MM will need to manage them. Sounds a bit like interference but then Morgan does know his football and does not seem happy with MM’s targets and the current scouting policy. Which scout sounded Kightly out? Where is he now?

    11. It was Ian Evans (”Taff” as he’s rather cleverly known!). Still assistant manager I believe.
