Villa blog: Stop moaning Harry

wd2496917soccer-barclays2.jpgA bitterly disappointing weekend of sport is over, and its hard not to feel deflated, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.

We should have won on Saturday, but the team can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves.

We are heading into the crunch period now where games will come thick and fast and we’ll need to be more clinical than we were on Saturday if we want to stay in contention for Europe.

As for Harry Redknapp’s whinging to the national media about the Villa fans, well I don’t have much sympathy. What did I observe at the game?

Well it all started when Mike Riley’s dismal performance as referee prompted chants of ‘Redknapp’s paid the ref.’

There have been similar chants in the past, and its par for the course I’m afraid that fans will use embarrassing newspaper stories as ammunition when baiting opposition players and managers.

There was nothing said that could be considered ‘vile and abusive’ until after his two fingered salute to the Holte End.

As far as I’m concerned his post match outburst and condemnation of the Villa fans had everything to do with him trying to deflect attention away from his unprofessional and provocative reaction to the initial chant, rather than him worrying about kids at the game.

After all, what kids would understand what all the ‘bung’ stuff is about anyway?

I note with interest that he hasn’t criticized the Portsmouth fans for the exact same song they directed at Ashley Young.

Instead he made a point of walking across the pitch to applaud them. Double standards anyone?

I’ve never liked Harry, but I respect the job he’s doing at Portsmouth.

God help us if we end up with him as England manager though, imagine the tantrum he’d pull if he had to experience a real theatre of hate, like

Turkey away in Istanbul for example?

I think after Saturday I’d rather have Jamie Redknapp as England boss.

Villa fans what do you think? Have your say below

Great blog mate!! Nice to see a bit of balance being applied to this situation and I fully agree with your sentiments over the Harry for England claims!! Football fans have the sharpest wit when provoked, and I wonder how many Portsmouth supporters were barracking England players after the Croatia defeat huh?? Storm in a teacup innit!!

    Agreed, He’s a prat.
The best ones were very witty. And simply an extension of the going down theme.

Poor old ‘Appy ‘Arry, it’s a hard life for an East End boy, innit? If it isn’t the Old Bill questioning you in relation to a trumped-up fraud investigation, it’s football fans taking the mickey and making your life a misery. Funnily enough ‘Arry, it’s these same fans who’ve helped pay you such a good living all these years. It’s bad enough you earn more a year than some of these fans will ever see, but you want to stick the boot in as well?
What you needed to do was lighten up mate, and lose the miserable old everyone’s-against-me Droopy Dog look. Instead, you reacted. And that’s pretty much guaranteed you more of the same for the rest of the season…

Don’t remember him condemning West Ham fans for their opinion of Paul Ince when he was manager there either. It seems to be OK if it’s directed at everyone else - a vile attitude

Noddy Rednapp was wound up and should not have bit.His mouth can spout filth at times,it’s his slagging off of Villa fans that has annoyed me more than anything, certainly looked like he’d paid the ref to me.Mr. Riley let so much go and got far too much wrong in the first half.

Well the bait was dangled and beetroot faced pug bit with both yellow dentures. He strutted around like a toddler on acid, demonstrated his probable IQ by raising 3 stubby sausage shaped fingers, and then had a moan via the press. Bless his poor bruised ego.
I am sure mrs. R will miss him each morning next to her on the pillow. We look forward to seeing him on the bench next year (sub’s not in front of the magistrate’s) if indeed he is still at liberty.
Good luck with the England job Harry, we are all behind you, as are D Wing.
