A mother and her young son who were found dead at two homes in Tipton were named this afternoon.
The bodies of 27-year-old Emma Hart and five-year-old Lewis Dangerfield were discovered at separate addresses. Detectives said they are linking the deaths but are not looking for anyone else.
It is feared that the mother took her own life after killing her son.
Police officers were called to a first floor flat in Henley Close where they discovered the body of Emma Hart.
The body of her five-year-old son was found at an address half a mile away in Walker Street, Ocker Hill.
Unconfirmed reports suggested they may have suffered stab wounds but post mortem results today revealed Emma died of bleeding. Pathologists are unable to confirm the cause of death for Lewis but are carrying out toxicology tests.
Father of Lewis, Shaun Dangerfield, said today that his son would have been six in February.
“I cannot explain what has been taken away from me, mine and Lewis’s family,” he said.
“It can only be described as devastating.
“We would like our own private time to mourn the loss of such an amazing and extremely special little boy. He did nothing but make us smile.
“He has a room full of robots and Transformers ready for him this Christmas.”
Emma’s family said in a statement: “We are devastated at the loss of our daughter and grandson. Emma was a loving daughter, sister and mom.”
Neighbours spoke of their shock, some claiming the mother had recently been diagnosed with cancer.

My sympaty is with the familys they must going through hell especially the little lads father. I have 2 lads and if they were taken from me like that i would be angry and devestated. She must have in a terrible state of mind to do such a thing, i do feel for her family but think its a selfish act thats shes done, the little boy had his whole life ahead of him and who has the right to take that away!!!
According to police reports she hadn’t got cancer… for some unknown reason she had told friends that she had.
I feel so sorry for the family of little Lewis she had no rights taking his life.
