An eyesore pub which has been a target for vandals, arsonists and flytippers may make way for homes and apartments.
The Moxley Arms, High Street, Moxley, Walsall, derelict for up to 10 years, has been a magnet for anti-social behaviour and drug users.
Previous plans to pull it down and build homes were refused as Walsall Council said applications were out of character and overbearing but a new application by Cherryform Developments Ltd for six houses and nine apartments is being recommended for approval by planning bosses tonight.
Plans were called in by Darlaston councillor Graham Wilkes due to concerns about the impact on the surrounding area and overdevelopment.
However, a report to the council’s development control committee is encouraging members to grant permission subject to a contribution towards Urban Open Space and Education.
The scheme would involve two six-bed properties, three four-bed homes and one two-bed building along with nine two-bedroom apartments.
Councillor Paul Bott, who has led a campaign to clean up the site, backed the scheme and said: “We have been asking for action at the pub for some time because it is a magnet for anti-social behaviour, fly tipping and fly-posting.”

I wonder if this developement has taken into account that it is already on a blind corner which saw one bad accident this year.
ALSO IF COUNCILOR WILKES AND BOTT WANT TO TACKLE FLY TIPPING WHY DON’T THEY START IN THE MOXLEY PEOPLES CENTRE AND MOVE THE MOBILE SKIP (A SCRAP LORRY) THAT HAS BEEN PARKED THERE FOR OVER SIX MONTHS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MOVED FOUR WEEKS AGO OR IS THAT TOO FAR UNDER THEIR NOSES THAT THEY CAN’T SEE IT.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE ELECTED TO LOOK AFTER OUR INTERESTS BUT THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN LOOKING AFTER THEIR OWN INTERESTS.
Knock down it down and build something that provides an opportunity for housing and/or jobs. Half of Moxley seems to have been knocked down or abandoned in the last 10 years and the area is in dire need of improvement.
