Mick McCarthy closed an eventful week in his Molineux managerial reign fending off more questions about his future amid the misery of his defeat.
McCarthy was briefly questioned about the possibility of interest from his former employers at the Republic of Ireland following the previous week’s highly publicised approach from South Korea.
McCarthy cut the questioner short with: “I’m not getting into job speculation – I’ve had a week of it.
“I’m here at Wolves and this is more important to me.”
And it’s clearly hurting the Molineux boss to see his team struggling so badly to live up to their expectations, never mind those of the supporters, as they struggled and suffered a second successive defeat.
“For a team that doesn’t give many goals away, the ones we conceded were bitterly disappointing,” said McCarthy.
“We were ragged around the edges and their front two caused us problems. Wayne Hennessey let one in, but he also made some great saves. He has been terrific for us.
“We got a reaction from the players in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. It was an improvement on Tuesday’s performance at Barnsley because we competed, but not in terms of the points.
“We’ve not been totally convincing over the last few games, but up until this week we have been winning. We need to get back to the form we were showing a few weeks ago.
“I thought their front two were brilliant – they caused a lot of problems. When you go 2-1 or 3-1 down it is easy for them to play because they have good footballers.”
There was further consolation for Hennessey, whose handling error allowed Burnley to gain the upper hand with the first goal from a Robbie Blake free-kick, from Burnley manager Owen Coyle.
He watched Hennessey deny Burnley on four other occasions and said: “The kid is clearly going to be a star.
“Some of the saves he made before and after the goal were outstanding – world class. The one from Joey Gudjonsson’s free-kick was absolutely terrific because that was an absolute screamer.”
There is no doubt that Burnley now look a team capable of adding to the pressure of the scramble for play-off places which Wolves will inevitably feel.
They have flourished since the arrival of Coyle and added the Molineux scalp to those already collected at Watford and Charlton – all of which has helped the Clarets move to within a point of McCarthy’s sixth-placed team.
“It was a fantastic win and a fantastic performance to go with it,” said Coyle.
“We merited those valuable three points, just as we did at Leicester, Watford and Charlton.
“I thought the players showed real belief in what we are trying to do. They moved the ball very effectively and created numerous opportunities.
“As much as it was 3-1, in the end it could have been more. Young Hennessey made a mistake for the first goal, but he had two or three outstanding saves.
“We had to withstand some pressure in the second half because of the penalty, but we stood up to it.”

badly need quality defenders to help out the rest of the team, moxey spend some money!!
rgds tpd
Best manager we’ve had for years.Rich chairman who’s gonna put £30m in.Team full of hungry up and coming youngsters.Massive fan base. One day the likes of Burnley,Barnsley,Hull better watch out.
strength in depth, quality, experience, goals knowhow, ability to unlock defences, craft, guile,
We lack them all.
From here promotion looks a long way off.
We need to make more/better use of the players we have waiting in the wings, give them a chance shake things up, what we got to lose.
The team need a refreshing wake up call. Keogh and some of the jaded players could do with a spell in the reserves see if it jolts them a bit out of their self imposed apathy.
if mick does,nt want to stay then let him go…….sick of managers not having the balls to say what they really mean…….anyway once jody and kites are back and we really destroy someone then mick will be saying that he wanted to stay all along…..
worry is the lack of spirit when we got to 3-2, last season we would have battered them for the last 30 minutes but it was totally uninspired, rather like the lack of substitutes at half time, how could we field the same team after that first half, by the way, how many shots on target did we have in the second half ??? I think that says it all for me, clueless mick, simply clueless
i dont care what some of the wolves fans say mick mccarhty is the best manager we have had for years and what he has done for this club is nothing short of a sporting miracle, we was doomed at the start of last season and he worked wonders with very little. we need to get off his back and get behind the players. yes we ahven’t been playign great but we are still in a strong position. i really hope mick stays and i hope we don’t buy alot in january its not needed jarvis is starting to look dangerous its only a matter of time before eastwood, elliott keogh jarvis kightly olinjana gibson and henry are all playing well again. we are a very good team just going through a bad spell. watford have won 1 out of the last 7 but they are still sitting top of the league!! we need to start thinking of the positive before last week we was playing bad but we still kept 5 clean sheets in a row!! we have had a bad week so what you seriously didn’t expect us to go through the season without losing 2 games in a row! them down the road lost 4-2 to coventry and beat leicster away its a funny old league so lets get behind the lads and SUPER MICK!!!
SUPER SUPER MICK!!!!
I’m not going to make excuses, Burnley were the better side on the day, but we really need to spend some cash and get in some prem quality like the Albion have, ok sure they seem to roll over some matches, but I must admit them and Watford probably have the strongest squads, we have quality, but not enough, we need to stregnthen all areas of the team imo.
comment 4) what are you on about you are getting sick of managers not having the guts to say his true feelings mick mccarthy has said his feelings in this line
“I’m here at Wolves and this is more important to me.”
he wants to stay at the wolves simple has that and moron fans like you aren’t going to drive him out of the club!! he will prove you all wrong and get us promoted!!! if he does go it will be the biggest mistake the board has made for years!! and that will putthe club in a bad position!! the players love playing for mick mccarthy if he goes then you could lose players like kightly, hennessy, keogh, eastwood, foley, elliot they all have fiath in super mick!! so should we
Just popped over to make sure you were all still here - normally you can’t move on the Albion pages for Disloyal cannock and his mates posting their little droppings everywhere but we hadn’t seen anyone today..
Glad you are all ok.
super mick will be super gone and all because of ya supporters………. great boing boing 3 - 2
mick is on borrowed time we havent performed for a long time it was amazing how we managed only have 1 defeat in 12 we are not good enough
Wolves4life
No.6 & 8
Well said no more to be said you have said it all.
Come on you Wolves fans get off MM and the team backs and start supporting them 100% all of the time not just when we are winning.
(8) Well said, l agree with you some of these so called supporters, so negative, wolves are in a very good position to mount a push on the premiership, just need the supporters to get behind team and manager.
THE LAST TWO MATCHES HAVE PROVEN THAT WOLVES NEED TO INVEST IN TO GOOD PLAYERS.PROVEN QUALITY DEFENDERS WITH PREMIERSHIP BACKGROUNDS,A WINGER AS QUICK & WITH THE CAPABILITES OF MICHAEL KIGHTLY,ANOTHER MIDFIELDER WITH S.G.OLOFINJANA QUALITY & STRONG POWERFUL,WE BADLY NEED A TOP CLASS STRIKER THAT WILL GIVE WOLVES THE GOALS WE BADLY NEED TO WIN THE MATCHES WE’VE LOST & THE MATCHES WE’VE DRAWN & SHOULD HAVE WON.THE LAST TWO GAMES WOLVES HAVE BEEN POOR AS A TEAM,THE ONLY PERSON EXCEMPT IS WAYNE HENNESEY WHOOSE THE REST OF THE TEAM SHOULD LOOK AT,THE GUY’S BEEN AN INSPIRATION FOR HIS AGE.
“”"COME ON WOLVES IT’S QPR ON SATURDAYLET’S TURN AROUND THE PERFORMANCE & GIVE THE FAN’S A MUCH NEEDED WIN & MM 3 POINTS”"”.
IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE PLAYERS HAVE LOST FAITH IN MM.
TACTICS ARE ALL WRONG AGAIN
AND AGAIN WHEN EASTWOOD CAME ON IT LOOKED A DIFFERENT GAME.
WHEN WILL HE LEARN ????
IS THE KOREA JOB STILL AVAILABLE ??
IF SO BUY HIM A ONE WAY TICKET
stourport wolf do u think keogh foley kightly hennessy jarvis eastwood henry ward have lost faith in a man who has shown so much faith in them? i dont think so! talking aloud of rubbish!! i am sure half of you who slag off the wolves don’t go to teh games!
and eastwood will come good but eastwood knows himself that time is the crucial thing and sooner rather than later the team will click!! simple!!!
fans keep talking about strikers taking chances, we could have wayne rooney up front and he wouldnt score 10 goals. our strikers get no service we have one of the worst midfields in the league. Darren gibson, olofinjana and karl henry would be more suited to league 1
we need investment, and we need to have the midfield creating chances for the strikers
i would give McCarthy till the new year
“I’m here at Wolves and this is more important to me.”
how is that quiet being on his future ??
When the knives are out they really are OUT at the wolves aint they !!
No wonder no one wants to come there.
I hear MM has a real selection headache coming up at christmas - whether to eat the Flake first or the curly wurley.
problems problems….
Are all these people who moan on this site all the people who sit in the Steve Bull. I watched the first game of the the season in that stand and after 10mins in to a new season all I heard was moaning. If you don’t want to show support for your team don’t go. The opposition fans are meant to do the slating of our team not our own.
And yes, we have been playing shocking all season, but were still in the mix, if we’re not there by the end of the season then you can have something valid to whinge at.
19 - what absolutely tosh. He’s bound to go for the twirl
21 - I had him down as a Flake man - falls apart in the box.
“We’ve not been totally convincing over the last few games”
What? we haven’t been at all convincing all season. This guy is seriously mad!
hb comment made me laugh lol
i think saturday just shows we are a two man team in hennessey and kightly if either is missing or playing poor we are rubbish
end of day mick says 3goals was unusual, if we would of played burnley in 3previous games at home im sure they would scored 3goals, only got 1-0 due to the v.poor opposition who missed quite a few sitters
22.your mistaking him with eastwood
After seeing/listening to it (half the time I couldn’t bear to watch it. I am still totally bemused as to why he is playing s ward out on the wing, when the guy is nothing like a winger, why isn’t Jarvis given a decent chance, after all that’s what he was bought for surely????? I will always be 100% behind those guys on the pitch, but I’m afraid ever since he was hire MM has never, and never will be my idea of a good manager, he has not done anything to make me think otherwise.
Still in the play-offs despite the moaning! Get a hold guys. If we get one or two good buys as this time last year and one or two good performances we’ll be away again. Some of you need a pessimismoptptomy. And I do know it’s because you care, But all this negativity is so counterproductive. For goodness sake the team need lifting. I’m really sick at seeing really good players denigrated when they have an off day. Who wants the ball when, if you make a mistake, your own `fans` make vicious remarks. On one site someone was having a go at Foley because he’s `useless`! Perhaps he’s starting to be afraid of making an error. Remember, these guys are young lads and don’t let your envy over their incredible salaries let you forget that. Happy-Baggie, a psychiatrist would have a field day with you. The Baggies are a top team. You don’t need to have a chip on your shoulder. I’m sure your team will soon be in the premiership, where it belongs.
Basic facts are hard to ignore ! At home against Barnsley, Colchester and Burnley we never looked capable of creating sufficient chances. With McIndoe departure and Kightley injured we have absolutely no width and are unable to get behind opposing full backs - hence the lack of goals.
just about everyone has knocked me on here. My comments from the start of the season have surrounded, Morgan not willing to spend money, Moxey hopeless at everything other than balancing petty cash and the result is a lot of make weight players. We cannot move up unless the above get fixed. Morgan won’t spend, Moxey is hopeless and the team stays where its at.
This team has reached a position in the table more by luck than knowhow–We were out classed by a Burnley side that was happy to have the ball at their feet–We do not have players who do that-Its a quick kick away and who on Saturday was playing for the SHIRT–we at this time are not good enough no class and no experience-We need to get some defenders in cannot expect forwards to run around like headless chickens.
Why o why do we keep allowing baggies fans to post on a site which other Wolves fans read to guage the general feeling of our fans only to be incensed by stupid remarks from the likes of Happy _Baggie. “Go away and peddle your childish quips on your own site”. Where were you when Sandwell Town went down 4 to Cov. Grow up Get a Life.
Just come back down the A41 through Dingleton.I was overtaken by a great big wagon-wheel…just rolling along all by itself…
Does anyone know if there is a wagon in the area where the wheels are starting to fall off ?
wolves4life….6..100% right
wolves fans, we are blaming the team but lets look at mick, most players are played out of position, Gibson, Ward, Collins, good players do not get in the team, Young Hughes, Rosa, Eastwood, we have no hunger go forward, surly thats mick saying defender and hope we nick a goal, players look like they do not no whats going on, its soding rubbish!! to change a game he just as not got a clue, its about time we all protested to get him out! because we are never going to get promoted. we do have the players here, look at young little cracking right back never gets a game, along with Rosa who scores hat falls.
We wont Ince Back he will sort it out once and for all,
Sorry Mick take the Ireland Job and do us all a favour!!
One more thing Moxey please go with him!!!!!!
Happy B Good to see you bringing your usual wit and banter to cheer us all up!
On a footballing front - Wolves have no balance or creativity in midfield - cant defend and average one goal per game
Is it all down to the players or the tactics and how they are being used?
I’ve always thought that as soon as MM come under pressure that he would leave and I still do.
MM gone for Xmas?!!
I don’t think we would miss him for long, but I do think that Moxey has to go,this is very important.
I would like someone come in at Wolves who all who all the fans want, someone they would really make some noise for, this is a big factor,we don’t frighten away teams enough!
I think the answer may be Paul Ince.
I read with interest (in the Sun) that the £30 million is for the well being of the team & not for team rebuilding.Who’s hymm sheet is McCarthy singing from?
Moxeys?
Can’t we send HIM back to Stoke?
22- Happy you got it wrong mate. Its not McCarthy that falls apart in the box, its our strikers!!!
I’m a massive supporter of the likes of Keogh and Eastwood and admittedly the service they get is well….virtually non existant, but they are meant to be strikers and take the chances that are provided by our very defence minded midfield, but they don’t.
Satruday proved Wolves need to strengthen and quick cuz as I’ve said before there will be very few, if any easy games in this league.
I’m not one for slagging the team or MM off & I was not one of the boo-boys on Saturday and I never will be, but these are professional football players who were supposed to put up abit of a fight after the shocker at Barnsley and most of them looked like they couldn’t give a damn.
Collins was diabolical and I could think of a stronger term for most of his appearances this season, Foley had I think his worst agame yet, why Bothroyd persists in his 30 yard shots into the top of the North Bank is beyond me, D. Ward needs to learn to head the ball outwards instead of straight up and the whole team need to have their colour perception tested at Specsavers to see if they can actually tell the difference between the Gold & Black strips they play in and whatever colour their opposition are wearing.
Rant over.
Still gona be there at every game though cuz I still believe Wolves will come good.
SOUTH BANK FOREVER
its been the same old story for 20 years or more. whenever we have the chance to kick on and get in a good position we always blow it.the only time was when we got promoted to prem.we blew it then to because no money was spent on good players. why not get lita in from reading or mifsud from coventry.
The balance, in terms of players he’s signed, is unconvincing. Darren Ward, Jarvis, more recently, Stephen Ward, and Keogh previously.
He is right to point at Hennessey’s excellent saves, but why, time after time, does the lad remain rooted on his line when he needs to assert himslef on crosses?
It was clear for all to see on Saturday. We have effort at times, but what we don’t have is QUALITY - and that’s true all over the park. We are fast becoming a one-man team all over again. This time its Kightly, and if he doesn’t play we haven’t got a clue - or a hope.
With the exception of Hennessy, and Foley at times, ALL the players took the televised opportunity to show where they are - playing at least one division above their level
The truth is that the purchase of Kightly was a fluke! Buy non-league, players on their way down or journey-men, and over a sustained period you get what you pay for.
… and why was our tallest striker (I use the term loosely!) taking corners !!!!!!!
Interest from South Korea and Ireland ?
I notice Brazil and Italy haven’t shown any interest.
There are better managers out there. Billy Davies is one of them.
Big Sam, should he become available, is most certainly another.
David Bartley, Tipton.
Happy - I reckon he’ll go for his favourite, no selection problem there
I would recommend however that we get rid of Bothroyd and Elliott and replace them with Stuart Fleetwood of Forest Green, 24 goals he’s got this season already, he played for Heeford last season and scored a hatrck against Coventry in the Carlin Cup. AND… he’s only 21
Wolves fans never change do they. Mick McCarthy has done wonders transforming the club. Now because you reach the play offs, you feel a god given right to get promotion. Get real!! You have average championship players who due to an excellent manager are punching way above their weight.
Msg to MM, Mick you deserve better!!
MM is going to get the sacked if they lose against the bottom team. Dont give me any tripe about I dont go to games blah blah blah, he has lost the dressing room, its been brewing for a while.
a) Send Craddock to Stoke, sees his defence go from bad to worst aand then calles him back egg on his face
b) Public slagging off of eastwood
c) Playing his ex sunderland favourites for their one last pay check I thought the age of the golden tit was finished! eg, Gray, Elloitt, Colins, Breen,
d) His buys are by and large rubbish, Elloitt, S.Ward, D.Ward, Gray, Collins, Henry “No Paul Ince!”
e) Last but not least as much as I admire MM work last season, I think the team has reached a plateau, I have no confidence in his team selection and stardard of play. Mr Morgan aim was promotion and as far as I am concerned that is going to be the benchmark therefore I expected MM to resign, take on the Ireland job and Paul Ince will take over.
GET OFF HIS BACK
FOR GADS SAKE
he has done a great job and we are still in the mix
so all you moron fans shut up and get behind your team instead of slating them ALL the time
and to some of you…do you really think booing them off the pitch at half time and full time is boosting there confidence…its making it worse
he clearly wants to stay so why are SOME still on about the korea job
you can’t expect us to go the whole season without loosing 2 in a row
try getting behind the team
stop booing them ans support mick or dont bother going to the match
COME ON WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much as it grieves me to agree with you Happy Baggie you’re spot on….no-one will ever succeed here with the amount of whingers we’ve got.
That said, MM’s got a challenge on his hands at present. The magis formula is 90% down to passing and movement at pace as preached by the great Bill Shankly and followed by Brian Clough’s teams at Derby and Forest neither of which had world class players. While we improved a touch in the second half on Saturday we were patchy and didn’t have much co-ordinated teamwork. On the other hand Burnly attacked and defended in groups, at pace and we couldn’t think and react as quickly as they were able to move the ball.
hoppy-boggie is one of thoses prannies who delight in the problems of others, how sad, people like him make me sick, with radio WM to his ear he must really get excited when wolves go through a bad period, he then comes on here and states the obvious, he,s not a true football fan, just a silly man who needs to feel wanted and uses wolves to gain some sort of status that he lacks in normal life..thing is we wolves don,t give a dam about the boing boing blackteeth, they are obsessed with everything gold and black
Wolves are going nowhere under MM. Team can only be described as a bunch of triers, like most McCarthy teams. Expected things to really happen when Steve Morgan took over but first 4 months of his tenure have been a terrible anticlimax. Still trying to get to the Premiership on the cheap and it won’t work.
Come on Mick. Kightly & Craddock injured and Keogh & Olofinjana desperately lacking form.
Thats our problem
I agree with Andy Super wolf No 17 how can the forwards score they get no service from mid-field, the ball is booted up in the air from the defence for the strikers who are small. We also have no wide players and keep playing a centre forward (WARD) on the wing and he cannot cross the ball. Give some of the youngsters a chance.
Just visiting - didnt know if anyone had heared that Little was being tracked by the Foxes and the Sky Blues heard hes good but hasnt played in a while - any info appreciated
I have no doubt that mick will get the best out of what he has got hence the good result against the B**gies (i was expecting us to get tonked).
However why do all the rumours remain around about strikers and attacking midfielders (e.g howard from derby which has crednece from from past 18 months.)
Maybe our good defensive record is down to our midfield being very defensive rather than our defense being so good (collins = 100%effort, mr ward take note).
(i)Maybe kights in a free role behind a front 2 would be good (s.ward and eastwood my choice)
(ii)alternatively use jarvis at what he appears good at LW with kights on RW or even Gobern
(iii) We have enough good CM potts, george and rosa PLEASE MICK GIVE DENES AT LEAST 30 MINS EVEN IN A LOST CAUSE when fit, he isnt an internatonal for nothing)
Up the wolves
Keep going mick i am sure the majority of wolves fans are behind you.You will do it just please be honest with us (i.e. sth korea).
I’m not coming on here to hurt/insult anyone. But have you lot seen MM’s record? He always starts well then leaves a team in the poo - get rid of him soon or you will/(are) be going the same way as all his others.
Regards
46 totally agree but what you all dont know is i have only been given this season to get promotion by mr morgan needed proposals that i would still be allowed to stay a bit longer thats why i was slightly interested in another job cheers see you all saturday at q p r well real supporters x
agree mm as done a fantastic job,he had to get players in quickly and he as got the best out of them, now its time for phase 2
keep the faith.
MM can go for me. The last few home games have been poor but weve still picked up points. The Burmnley defeat was on the cards.
MMs “style” with a defnsive midfield and the long ball hoof is boring
The midfield is weak and so is MMs brain if he cant see it
MM has bought SEVEN strikers to molineux is 18 months none have worked because the supply is long ball from the back four not football from the midfield. Move over Mick I CAN DO BETTER THAN YOU!!
Expect Mick to get vote of confidence if we lose against QPR. As I said before as much as I admired his sterling work last season when no one gave us a prayer, this season we are really poor, no settled team, poor decisions making, public slagging of Eastwood and his persistence in picking Ward and not “in my opinion” Rosa is really puzzling. MM is a great man to listen too but recently he is seeking excuses. Morgan will not fork out the money in Jan as I think that will be a tell tale sign of Mick moving back to the Ireland job and Paul Ince taking over. Another thing Moxey ought to resign, how he didnt know MM was been sought out by Korea is beyond belief.
31 - nice grown up comments….
he says “Where were you when Sandwell Town went down 4 to Cov. Grow up Get a Life”.
i was sitting in the east stand - still cheering and geeing the boys on.
At the end i was disappointed - but I would never boo my team.
Where were you when you lost to Burnley / Hull / Morcombe etc… booing with the rest I guess.
wolves4life (17)
just to let you know ive not missed a game home or away for 4 years.
so i think im entitled to my opinion players just dont seem bothered, mm has done a good job but i feel hes taken the club as far as possible and its time for a change.
we were poor at barnsley away burnley at home and if you look back albion great save to get us a point, colchester we hung on for 3 points etc etc etc
these are fair and true comments
and this is why we need a change.
wise up
happy boggie you say you never boo your team how can ya you only hear the boggies on the tony butler show radio wm,and all you boggie fans laughing now, as the old saying goes he who laughes last laughes longest lets see what happens in march.
What the bloody hell is he supposed to be shouting about???????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stourport wolf, well said, 100% agree… MM has gone as far as he can based upon zero funding to start the season and nothing on the horizon.
The clear sign of a closed check book was the retention of Moxey, his advice to Sir Jack bumped us out of the Premiership last time and this time we have no chance of getting there.
If Morgan has any aspiration of making wolves a great club again he needs to firstly get rid of Moxey and then figure out what he has done with the 30M promised. Hasn’t reached the club has it?
Happy_Baggie you miss the point Tell us all on here why you bother to post. You are only here to have a pop and annoy people you are not wanted, this forum is for Wolves fans to air their opinions and grievances.Just go to the baggies forum and pontificate on there. I have no doubt you are a loyal season ticket holder just like my self. Each to their own we all nail our colours to the mast. The difference between us is that I don’t, and have no wish to go onto the baggies site and incense people by taking side swipes at another team’s current misfortunes heed the comments of 61. Theres a long way to go and Wolves have not got going yet, and we are still there or thereabouts.
I reckon Happy is on the pay role at E&S………….I suppose his interjections on here keep us all coming back to their site……so….I suppose it is good marketing really. Its not Mr.Swain in drag is it??????
UP THE WOLVES!!!!!!!
64 - so you think wolves wern’t laughing when we sold our players before the season started - or were laughing when we lost to derby - or were laughing when we lost players to injury ???
Of course they were - its banter - I expect no less. Just cos YOU get a bit moody dosn’t mean we are ALL cry babies… if you don’t like my posts don’t read em - but you know you can’t help it.
Kent wolf is a Happy fan.
