Man on platform hit by train

wd2449619newtrain-2-pm-12.jpgA man was hit by a train after he leaned forward as it came on to the platform, leaving him with severe head injuries.

The 47-year-old man was standing on the edge of the platform in Rowley Regis when he was hit by the London Midland Great Malvern to Shirley service at around 4pm on Saturday.

The man, who is from Birmingham, was rushed to Sandwell General Hospital but later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. His condition is described as critical but stable. Ambulance crews, British Transport Police and railway officials attended the scene. There are no suspicious circumstances, police said.

Trains were disrupted after the accident, which affected many fans returning from the match at Villa Park. Ambulance service spokeswoman Daphne Lewis said: “It is understood that a man on the edge of the platform had leaned forward just as the train approached and was knocked backwards on to the platform.”

Witnesses are asked to call 0800 405040.

Why on earth did he lean forwards, what a stupid thing to do.
I hope he makes a full recovery and learns not to do it again.

He was doing what everyone else does at train station..being in to much of a rush to think of their own safety.

I dont think so, I’ve never seen any body do this, and I travel by train twice a day, he was lucky that he didn’t get sucked off.

Angus..are you blind or do you only travel on a toy train..people run along the platforms as the train is departing, they rip open the door and jump in, they jump off the damn trains before they have stopped in stations and i can assure you that their are loads of people who get to close to the edge day after day after day.I should know i have cleared the bodies off train lines mate!!

In all my time of travelling on trains, I’ve never seen this. The doors are automatic and lock before the train departs, and do not open again until the train has stopped.
People cannot jump on as it’s departing, or jump off whilst the train is in motion.

Trains I travel on (Virgin 1st class) doors won’t open till train stationary. Also why jump off a train before its stopped and in the station, especially if in a hurry , wheres the logic? unless of course you are just mocking this unfortunate accident victim,

Every part of your post is a total fabrication. To do what your suggesting is virtually impossible and would likely put the train out of action, if not delay it.

This type of incident is very rare, first Ive heard of and Ive worked on the railways for 9 years.

    …and that’s 9 more than you obviously!
