Beacon League Dec 2 report

goal.jpgA MARK Elson header in the last minute of extra time sent AFC Codsall into the quarter finals of the Birmingham County FA Sunday Junior Cup.

The striker headed in from a tight angle to give Beacon League representatives Codsall a 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Sunday league Bagot Arms.

The match was sent to extra time after Codsall were twice pegged back by a spirited Bagot side.

Chris Jones gave home-side Codsall the perfect start to the round three fixture, finding the back of the net in just the second minute.

However, Bagot Arms soon hit back to tie the match.

Ryan Edmunds again put Codsall back in the lead with a fine volley to make it 2-1, only for a determined Bagot Arms team to again find a leveller and send the game to extra time.

With time running out and only seconds left on the clock star man Elson headed the ball home to give his side a dramatic victory.

Stuart O’Farrell hit a first half winner to give Smethwick Heating all three points from their Lawsons Premiership match with Navigation.

His strike was enough for Smethwick to win the close contest 1-0.

Shippies twice hit back to earn a point from their hard fought match with Hill Top Rangers.

Delroy Hudson had given away side Rangers a 1-0 lead only for Shippies’ Chris Collins to make it 1-1.

Chris Rhodes then made it 2-1 to the visitors before Steven Rollinson found the net in the second half to square the match at 2-2.

A hat-trick from Gary Bottomly helped FC Perton to a 4-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers Deaf in Call Print Division Two.

Bottomly’s three goals and another for Daniel Burns made sure of victory for Perton.

Hamish Haymes hit a consolation for Wolverhampton.

Sunday sees second division promotion hopefuls Oakdale Social take a break from league action as they travel to face Terex F.C. in the re-arranged third round Birmingham Sunday Junior Cup tie.

‘Social’ manager Ranier Wilson will look for a fine performance from his team as they face their Coventry & District Sunday League opponents, aiming to join fellow Beacon League outfit AFC Codsall in the draw for the quarter finals of this prestigious competition
