Wolves
boss Mick McCarthy has pledged his future to the club after ruling out of the running for the vacant manager’s job of South Korea.
McCarthy met with Wolves owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey this afternoon after being approached by the Korean Football Association.
In a statement after the meeting McCarthy said: “I have always been committed to the job at Wolves. I love it here and having spoken to Steve, have made it clear I am staying.”
Moxey said: “The board is delighted with the job Mick is doing. He is totally committed to the club, the players, staff, supporters and task in hand.
“When you have such a high quality manager there is always going to be a chance that someone is going to be interested in signing them, but we are pleased to confirm to our supporters that it is business as usual at Molineux.”

finally, some loyalty lets just hope Hennessey shows some come january
super mick, super super mick, super super mick super mick mcCarthy.
Come on mick lets put this behind us and lets get promotion
super, super Mick,
super, super Mick,
super, super Mick,
super Mick McCarthy
Best manager at the moli in years.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe all the moaning negative fools could get behind the team and Mick now or go away to join the strippy lot!!???
UP THE WOLVES!!!!!!!!!
Roll up Roll up….buy your Merlin Mick t.shirts here… going cheap, hardly worn at all.,,, roll up roll up… “in Mick we trust” shirts - get them while you can… all shirts come complete with knife mark in the back…
good to hear that
MM thanks for stopping, can you now hire a coach for the attacking element of our game,,, check out how many games we have scored more than 1 goal this season,,,, we are limited if the opposition scores !!
Someone is lying, the KFA have said that they have 2 men that they have approached who have said they have shown their interest. Has MM not made some odd team selections lately? Has his concentration been elsewhere? Have the KFA contacted him 2 let him know if is not their final choice hence this latest statement. Hmmm
GOOD . ( all a bit odd though ) bet rosa s not too pleased
Thanks Mick !
Glad MM is staying with us and i hope the fans get behind HIM and the TEAM on sat.
COME ON WOLVES!!!
Thank God !!!!
Super Mick to take us up
Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!! Come on Mick now lets show all the doubters that we can do it! Consistency and stability is what we need in this club, I get the feeling we are building something really special down at the Wolves, something long term, something that will get us up and then more importantly keep us up!
COME ON ME BABBIES!!!!!!!!!
Bad news!!, thats two bites of bad news in as many days,
we lose to Barnsley, with Elliott, Eastwood , Gibson on the bench, Miss another pen, keogh could not score if the ball was on the line we are a complete joke!! MM must go, defence are rubbish, it is only Wayne keeping us in games, and for the forwards well can not say much more about them, there surely should be practing there shooting at training.
We have no flair whats so ever, it about time MM stood up and shipped out.
Ince is the man
Come Morgan & Jez your just as bad,
What the hell is happy on about this time ? What a poor deluded prat
WANDERERSTILLIDIE (2) why don’t you do us all a favour and do what your name suggests, this club doesn’t need people like you!
Up the Wolves!!!
MM is a joke, Rosa must be gutted, we should all protest at the weekend for rosa to get in the team and get mm out with Fat Man Moxey!!
go on mick … take the job and do wolverhampton a good turn …
I have a horrid feeling that WANDERERSTILLIDIE is …in fact…a Wycombe fan. That would explain the verbal slosh.Sorry to all Wycombe fans out there. He is doing you no favours at all!!
UP THE WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved the comment about the knife marks in the back. Its a pity there are so many short sighted wolves fans out there, you make a good a decent assessment of what our fans are saying (which you do quite often)but never the less we will follow you into the premiership with Mick guiding us through the play offs.
well i for one am very dissapointed and i mean that, I would say that if we do not manage to get promoted( and morgan said that was his minimum requirement) mick will be shipped out anyway, and is there anyone on this board who would want him in charge if we got in the premiership ? remember mickquoting” breeny cant wait for another crack at the premiership”, now that is a joke. Its not pretty football and i see no reason why it should improve, poor tactics and wrong players picked have produced the most boring football i have seen for years. When was the last exciting game you saw at molineux ? i would suggest against Norwich and how poor were they. I know i will get loads of stick for this but we arent going anywhere with the current management, judge this post at the end of the season and lets see who was right
Well done Mick! There is some loyaly left in the game. Now lets get behind MM and the boys instead of moaning and whinging.
I thought the story was hyped up.
But a synic might say that Mick found out he didn’t get the job today hence his sudden loyalty.
Why was he in the frame at all if he had not shown any interest? Why did the Koreans name him?
I am glad he is staying but I wonder what the true story is behind the screen.
In Mick we trust - but perhaps not quite as much as before.
Slick move Mick!
Hope you did get some more per month from Morgan for it!
Great news as far as most true Wolves fans are concerned. Obviously some of the remarks attributed to Wolves fans on this site are from our thick neighbours who will be crying long and hard when their manager doesn’t show the same loyalty.
IN MICK WE TRUST
seems weird why it took so long to come out with what was going on!! why drag it out all day, when souness wanted in, moxey came out that same morning when the mirror reported it to say he as not spoke to souness about selling the wolves….. southend came out about 11:30pm to say wolves have agreed a fee for freddy and wolves confirmed the news, that same night. so why drag this out so long… was it mick wanting more money, for himself or the team? seeing what the fans reaction was, basically a stop moaning plee to us or couldnt korea agree a compensation package for him??? perhaps im blowing all this out of proportion but seems very weird to me!!!! this afternoon i was hoping he was going, i like the guy, his honesty, some players he has brought in, but tactically and player selection wise, he’d give mclaren a run for his money!!! or perhaps im being to harsh on the guy!!! and dont give me all this “we drawed with albion crap” so what, if a draw defines whether our manager is good or not, then its gonna be a long, hard season. no i havent forgot what he has done, and the mess he inherited, and i will always be appreciated for that, but the same could be said about dave jones, he got done over by the board, after getting us up, but 2-3months into the following season we were calling for his head… in football its all about the now and tomorrow, not what we done yesterday!! and i seriously believe we need a change… just my view, sorry if it dragged on a bit!!
MM took over the wolves after the dark time of TWODDLE. he gave us a sense of belonging to something special again. He gave us hope and now he has rewarded us. People who slate him are the dark side of wolves that have done us more harm than any manager ove the last 20 years. SUPER MM thanks for making my hope and enjoy again
I take back all that I said on other threads — daft to believe the Korean’s statement without hearing from Merlin himself. Hope he never regrets turning down a million dollares per anum.
I also said North Korea — it was South Korea — can’t even read.
Long may he stay — Super Mick McCarthy — I got it wrong.
Now Board — get MM’s contract signed on a more permanent long-term basis — and give him some real money in the New Year.
P’raps this incident will give him some barganing power when the window opens and they seek to re-negotiaite his contract.
HAVING BEING A SEASON TICKET HOLDER I DO FEEL WE HAVE HAD THE MOST SUCCESSFUL REIGN THROUGH MM SINCE DAVE JONES BUT I DONT FEEL HE WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP WOLVES UIN THE PREM BUT IN A WAY GOOD NEWS HE STAYIN
COME ON YOU WOLVES GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND GET 1 OVA THE WBA FOR THE LAFFTA THEY THOUGHT MM WAS LEAVIN
I am glad MM is staying and i agree with staffs wolves, MM is building something good for the future.
Young players are the way forward for wolves, too much money has been spent in the past on hazbeens who are only interested in the money!!
Give MM a chance.
Don’t get it! The story broke this morning and it takes us until almost 5 o’clock to issue a statement. There’s more to this than meets the eye!!! On other matters we desperately need to start players in their natural positions. and isn’t it typical wolves to release or sell players without replacing them, namely Butler and Lescott and a IMO we are calling out for a target man. Then we’ll be sorted.
Brilliant news, now we are going to win the league!!!!
and i thought we’d at last see the back of s.ward & potter!
Get Paul Ince in there!
Off you go Mick, if you’re not prepared to spend money we’re never getting out of this division.
Come on moaning wolves fans! Look how far Mick has taken the team in not long over a year.We were stripped to the bare bones of a squad and we are in a Play-Off position without really having our turned up yet! Hopefully in Jan we’ll pick up Mr Sharp at a knock down Fee and then away we go!
Happy_Baggie, alot of comments on here are from West Brom fans faking to be Wolves fans. I have always trusted MM, and I know 90%+ of Wolves fans will say the same. Yet you seem to take the micky when he is linked with a job, a comes out and says he is committed to Wolves where he loves it here, you seem to think MM is a joke, his managerial record is better than TMs. Super Mick McCarthy!
Arrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh!! What is with all this criticism of McCarthy?? What is wrong with you lot? Why are Wolves fans so fickle? I’m ashamed to be associated with you. Mick is doing a sterling job and he will get us promoted.
Rich: ROSA IS INJURED! For god’s sake I don’t even live in the country and I know more than some of you lot! I rate MM but his team selection needs to change or else. No more Potter, Ward or Keogh (for now, he needs time in the reserves)
OK so your’e staying and youv’e done a pretty good job. BUT Why oh why do you always play WarD? Your magic has been to select forwards that don’t score or turn scorers into flops. Get Rossa on and some atting flair. We’ve fluked it so far, performances have been disapointing and not up to par. By the way,Ince was always the man for the job
I will supprt whoever has the reigns, so lets put this behind us and head for the promise land?, just ask billy davies how good it is
Rosa’s injured and has been for several weeks — so get up to date rich
There are a lot of back stabbing Wolves fans posting rubbish on the site today. How quick many of you were turning on Mick today when you thought he was deserting us. He is an honest straight talking man who I believe will stick with us. The premiership is the only place to be as the new manager of Birmingham can testify after deserting the Scottish national team. Super Mick wants to take us into the Premiership and if we all pull together, get behind the team that’s where we will be next season I have no doubt. So let’s all put the knives and the pathetic comments away and get behind Mick McCarthy and the boys on Saturday and for the rest of the season. Up the Wolves!
rich!! you ain’t fooling anyone!!
go back to sandwell and support them!!
bilston baggie please shut up!! and STAY AWAY from the molineux!!
We need loyal supporters who will stick by there team.
lets sing super mick on saturday and give him a standing ovation!! because us REAL WOLVES FAN appreciate what he has done for this club!!! best manager we have had for a logn time!!
I have never been a fan of MM. But i cant deny what he has achieved at the mol. At the moment though we are playing some awful football.People keep throwing stats like keeping clean sheets. If the people that say this go to watch games like i do could they take their rose tinted glasses off.We have been extremely lucky the last few games in defence Wayne H has been superb. As for MM team selection last night, what was that about. He has to stop playing his favorites and put the best side out. I dont care if freddy, elliot, keogh or jay did sweet fa for 88mins as long as they can put the ball in the net.MM uses his “putting in a shift” excuse to play all his favs.
one defeat and all hell breaks loose, support your club you muppets i’m suprised super mick wants to stay. your all as daft as happy boggie….
Today I can honestly say that I am embarrassed to be a Wolves fan, no wonder people like HB take the mickey, has anyone seen some of the comments some idiot Wolves fans have posted on the previous story about MM leaving, I bet they feel a bit stupid now!
Even before any statement was released they were on MM’s back, how fickle! I mean what more is this guy supposed to do, he worked miracles last season and this season we are 2 points off automatic promotion before Christmas.
Okay, we get rid of him, then who do we bring in? There are not that many good managers out there at the moment who would realistically come to Wolves, so my message to these narrow minded fans is to shut up, sit down and let MM carry on with his job!
Up the Wolves!
i agree with bilston wolf he must go
It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he moved on.
Big Sam is getting a bit homesick.
David Bartley, Tipton.
Rich you are right he continues to play the likes of Potter (never had an impact on game when picked and we always loose or draw.S Ward will never score a goal and is not a winger, Elliott no impactin in any game played, Ole admits he had a bad game the first one i don’t think so. I’ll stop there but please give Mark Davies, Gleeson and Rosa a chance and move forward.
yeah were doin that bad that were in the play offs, 2 points off second have lost 1 in the last 7 and concided 2 in the last seven all u moaners get ur act 2 gether
Does anyone-one else think this was a publicity stunt. It got wolves on the national sport headlines all day.
Rich you are absalutly right with all your comments. You have obviously been watching the same poor football that I have, its a disgrace that we are not beating the teams in this division. Attack is the best form of defence and at the end of the season goals can mean an extra point.
Give Mark Davise , Gleeson, and Rosa a game and leave out the rubbish.
16.andywolf19
What the hell is happy on about?
Just have a look at some of the comments on the other thread calling for Mick’s head………..I thought his comment was quite apt………
I can’t understand all this Super Mick rubbish. We played better football under Hoddle and that was bad enough ! What really scares me is the thought of fluking promotion. Just imagine it.
The worst manager in the history of the Premiership in charge of our team. Ask Sunderland fans what they think of him.
I’m glad Mick is staying. I can’t believe how quick some of our support have been to write saying it’s time for him to go.
ALL managers make mistakes. Mick has made very few so far. Face facts, when he took over we were worried about relegation and had no squad. Last year he brought in Henry and Kitely. Last year we made the playoffs. Last night we lost and now I hear he’s had his time, he’s making mistakes, he plays favourites blah blah blah.
The time to review Mick and his squad’s performance will come at the end of this season. I think securing a playoff place is achievable. I never thought we would win the league this season.
In Mick I trust.
get off micks back, we’re on a bad run yeah but we were winnin games. look at watford, they’ve been playin poorly like us but losin so he must be doin somethin right eh! Cmon the boys it’ll come good.
18.Rich you haven’t got a clue. Rosa plays well in the RESERVES, free role he can do what he wants.
I agree we need to keep stability if the club is to advance. Nevertheless, you have to wonder if MM’s team selections will get us in to the Prem?
Cant beleive the claptrap I read sometimes….are all these comments from boggie supporters..?
Facts…We are doing better now that at many a time under many a recent manager & some so called supporters cant get off Micks back…no wonder We struggle to attract decent players & managers alike. Look at the tables lads…not the results. Play ugly…3 points…play inspired & we get 1 or none…so may teams have played pretty, technical footie & ended up mid table.
Last few games have been poor performances with the outcome that we’d have wanted…1 extremely poor game & we go off at the deep end..YET AGAIN.
WE all talk about confidence..staying true to the team…how bouts some of this being shown to a decent manager for a change…????
I, for 1 am happy with the first half of the season..now to shore up the unsteady areas on the pitch…3 players..?, & get behind the gaffer & the boys..& lets judge them all when it matters..end of season.
The futures bright…the futures ORANGE…N BLACK.
Yesterdays events should have demonstrated what everyone in football needs - PATIENCE.
If only people would wait until the facts come out, then yesterdays debacle where Wolves fans became so obviously split would never happen - ably assisted by Baggies fans both out in the open and under cover.
THe problem is, patience is not exercised either with the Manager or team, and some are more than willing to believe the worst - How very sad…..
MM has shown his loyalty to club, fans and players, the least the supporters can do now is to get behind him and the team.
Better football under hoddle, i dont think so, you might as well go and support the Albion and HAVE A PROPER Moan about the 4 goal thumping they got against Coventry.
UP THE WOLVES,SUPER MICK,LETS HET BEHIND THE TEAM AND GIVE A PROPER WWFC ROAR ON SATURDAY.
I Was a Doubter yestersday but some loyalty has been shown even if it was in the eleventh hour.
lets hope he can see what we need 2 build in january. We need a complete backbone in our team like when we won the playoffs.
we had lescott
Ince
Miller
COM’ON YOU WOLVES
It’s very good news but there is no mention of him turning the irish job down i would like to no micks views on that!
must admit i liked the thought of davies, keegan, ince coming in
lost bit of faith in mick in team selections and he doesnt seem the bloke he was last year
i wont lie about what said above
but will say he best manager we had since turner, i hope this may kick start our season, much to brucey “leaving” blues when they played derby away last year
i hope mick proves me wrong, but we playoffs at best, and we not good enough to compete with likes sheff utd, charlton, wba, watford in 2legs maybe one but not two
mark my words this time next year mick will be gone when we get poor start to next season
but as i said i hope im wrong
Mick can take us to the Prem, its not that difficult. Staying there with a bunch of Championship players is impossible, look at Sunderland under MM, Derby and ourselves under Jones. So why if you are playing for a team in the top six of the Championship would you want to go up? Makes no sense. Small fish/big pond, big fish/small pond syndrome. We are likely to be the almost rans for ever unless we get a manager and owner with the fire in their belly to put together a team like Coppell did and compete at the highest level. MM is a great guy, we like him because he speaks from the heart and speaks our language. However, his track record is rubbish and I see no sign of him learning, he keeps shuffling the pack hoping to hit on a winning hand. Ince has no history to haunt him and he is a proven winner at everything he does, he would have had Freddy firing on all cylinders. I know we are in the top six but if you look at the results we are lucky, we could easily be in the bottom six.
So anyone who posts on here who doesn’t rate McCarthy is an idiot or an Albion fan. 2-4 is a bad defeat, 0-6 is a thumping!
14 rich WHAT A RUBBISH SUPPORTER,NO SUBSTANCE AT ALL TO YOUR COMMENTS,GET A LIFE OR CO WRITE WITH HB.
I agree with shatpankwolves comment, if he is sooo committed to wolves why on earth did it take sooo long for wolves to just squash the news there and then. Maybe some of us are just reading between the lines.
Anyway, he’s here to stay for the moment so lets get behind him and the team and hope we can start scoring a few more goals than just the one goal or less per game that we’ve been achieving or not achieving of late.
Up the Wolves!!
I for one am glad MM is staying. The disruption him leaving at this time of the season would cause would be catastrophic.
Give the guy his due, he has turned us around in less than a season. Granted we aint playing well at the moment but to be sixth at this stage puts us in an ideal position to kick on. Playing ugly and getting points to keep us there or there abouts is OK but we do need to find some form.
My concerns with this whole debacle are as follows:
Did the club give the Koreans permission to speak to Mick? If they did that sends him the message that he isnt really wanted.
Did the Koreans speak to Mick without the knowledge of the club? Can they not be fined or censured for that by FIFA? Particularly if the guy concerned is a VP of FIFA as has been stated.
Did Mick apply for the position without the clubs knowledge? His position is then untenable and he has to walk.
Why did the club not come out and dismiss the whole story immediately if there was no truth in it. (This is the normal way Jez Moxey responds i.e Souness takeover bid)
Something stinks with the whole thing.
Again it does seems a bit fishy, why did it take them so long to prepare that statement. I suspect we’ll never know what has gone on.
What you can guarentee is that he will have to start producing results now. Otherwise he will be gone before January.
Speculation will unsettle the team. Morgan doesn’t seem the type to suffer fools gladly.
6. Happy.
Couldn’t agree more. Some of our idiot fans are a disgrace. These idiots who turn on their manager at the drop of the hat are fans all clubs can do without. Am really disappointed by some of the idiots. Good to see lots of fans speaking sense as well though and defending super Mick all through.
omg i have 2 agree woth happy
what is wrong with you lot
so fickle its unreal…mick has done a brilliant job and i am more than pleased he is staying
rich, joanne and the rest…go and support the albion cause we dont need fans like u
COME ON WOLVES
2-0 on saturday
freddy 2 get 1 or 2 xxx
least i was honest with my comment makes me laugh how 90% messages y’day was get mick out, bye bye mick
then today 90% messages are like super mick this super mick that
The last 20 years of Wolves history has been like a tory government all boom and bust. We MUST have stability. Without that we go nowhere. I applaud the fact that Mick ( for Whatever reason ) is going to stay. Just look at league history all the clubs that have got to the top and remained there for more than just a short while have had a manager in post and established for normally years. Mick if you look at his C.V. is a fine and highly qualified man. My history with Wolves watching goes back to pre floodlights, so I have seen a few come and go in that time. The man is doing a good job, please get off his back and support him and the team. Let him do his job and you daft lot do yours that of supporting the team you perport to love. Ignore that funny team at Sandwell they never could recognise anything any good.
promotion is within grasp!
Even from this distance I can smell it.
Great to hear. maybe this will shut up all the moaners.
SUPER MICK!
Well done Cornish Wolf…you are spot on and maybe Mick will have made it clear that he needs money in January to take us forward.
I WANT TO START A CAMPAIGN FOR THE SELECTION OF HAPPY-BAGGIE FOR THE KOREAN JOB. HE KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT WBA AND WOLVES SO PLEASE WRITE TO KOREA AND RECOMMEND HIM.
I KNOW WE WILL ALL BE SORRY TO SEE HIM GO BUT WE’LL GET OVER IT….
73 - we8wba
you were honest, but unless you can find those who have changed opinions, all your comment proves is that yesterday, the MM haters were vocal including Baggie supporters, and today the MM supporters are more vocal.
There will be a large number, me included who just waited to see what was actually going on.
Don’t try and read into things that don’t exist - much like yesterday
76 - E11 London Wolf
He’d turn it down for two reasons.
1. The job has already been turned down by two people who (in his opinion) know less about football than himself.
2. With the time difference , Korea being well ahead of us , he would not be able to carry on stirring up the fickle Wolves fans and putting down the fickle Baggies fans - A job which he does VERY well. - and thats not a criticism, just an observation
Birchland - i would only take the korea job on the understanding that I get 3 hours a day to post on here (I’m prepared to cut it THAT much) and that I get a nice Kia Rio out of it too…
However you are right - if it aint good enough for Mick….
Happy - How about the Irish job then ? your knowledge of Wolves players would give you a head start over other candidates.
77- im not a mick hater, im kind of happy he has stayed as we could got muppet like mclaren in
but recently mick doesnt seem himself, making odd decisions, moaning at the fans etc…
if you give me the mick mccarthy from last year i would keep him for next 2-3years
im just worried it will go sour for him like in sunderland when he got of to cracking start
i just got feeling he has hit his peak, as i said i would love for him n you lot all to prove me wrong
Lot of nonsense being spouted on here. Brumwolf (50) has it right. Even with a few dodgy performances (most of which we’ve won) the stats speak louder than words. It takes grit and tenacity to get out of this division, something Mick and his teams have always shown in abundance. its not like watching Brazil but Wolvehampton aint Cococanaba!
Birchland - If i wanted the ireland job I would just manage the wolves - its closer to home.
82 - i have no problem winning 1nil n grinding out the results
but lets face if we played good teams at home last two home games we would of lost
but you beat who ever is put in front of you
we got v.lucky in both games with both sides missing sitters, so its not like our defence was that SOLID
has mick even said why he played 4-5-1 with 3 defensive minded midfielders? winger who cant shoot nor cross, and one well i forgot he was our big summer signing
I cant beleive some of the back stabbers that are supposidly wolves fans, keep it up Mick!! Come on Wolves!!!!
After a few games last season it was obvious Mick had given us our pride back - which had been missing during the Hoddle years.
I dont see how will it help us to get rid of another manager, he needs time to build something!!. For what its worth I think Mick has done a great job, lets not underestimate our 5th place finish last season, and this season we are up there fighting - all be it without really playing well!
he’s staying and I expect that he has got a bigger pot to play with in January.
