A man robbed a teenager and his girlfriend of a phone and cash, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
Craig Johnson, aged 19, of Colley Avenue, Low Hill, yesterday admitted the attack in the city.
Judge Anthony Clearly told Johnson the robbery, which was carried out by him and a 17-year-old, must have left the victims, who were on their way home from the cinema, “terrified”.Mr Julian Elcock, prosecuting, told the court: “On September 28 at around 11pm a 16-year-old was walking home from the cinema with his girlfriend.
“Two males began to follow them. They were approached by one male, this defendant.
“He continued to walk alongside them before they were approached from behind by the other male.
“The teenager handed over his Nokia and a couple of pounds in his wallet.”
The pair were picked up by the police later.
Judge Clearly was told the incident was “completely out of character” for Johnson and left many who knew him “baffled” by what had happened.
He was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £702 costs. The other robber received a referral order at an earlier hearing.
