Danger road set for limit cut

A notorious stretch of road near Wolverhampton could have its speed limit reduced from 60mph to 40mph to make it safer.

The A41 Newport Road between Albrighton and Cosford has been the scene of numerous crashes, some serious, in recent years.

Transport chiefs have now unveiled plans to drop the speed limit by 20mph to bring it in line with existing limits along other parts of the road.

Road humps and flashing warning signs may also be installed to slow motorists down.

Recent collisions include a teenage girl who was seriously hurt after being hit by a car and a man in his 40s who was struck by a van.

Further down the A41 on the Wergs Road in Tettenhall, residents have raised a petition calling for traffic calming measures and the speed limit to be cut from 40mph to 30mph after a string of smashes.

The road layout has been changed to remove the short stretch of dual carriageway following scores of collisions, including one that killed a 19-year-old soldier.

Speed humps of the A41? You’re having a laugh! Someone needs to get their head out of the clouds.

Soon there will be no 60mph limits - all deemed too risky by health and safety fanatics.

Road chiefs are being press ganged by out of touch councillors because they’re caving in to hysterical locals to put in idiotic road safety measures. Such measures always create more problems.

its not the people who do 60 who is the problem, its those who do 70-80 in a small car full of people in the wet, who evere agrees to this is a right numpty,

and the duel carragway section that i drive down everyday without incident only causes problems when you have people dive round at teh very end and over teh hash markings,

you can tell none of these people live in teh real world or drive on any of these roads

I am a driver, a cyclist and a pedestrian and believe that the ‘hysterical locals’ have a right to use the roads safely.
Motorists are apparently unable to self regulate so they must be legislated into safer practices.

Anyone who lives in the proximity of the A41 between Albrighton and Cosford knows just how bad this road is. Try getting out of Albrighton onto it when the lunatic speedsters are around, they think it is a racetrack. I have lost count of the crashes that have taken place since living there, many resulting in fatalities. If people cannot drive safely then they must be made to.
