Minnows keep Cup dream alive

FA Cup specialists Chasetown pulled off a major shock by forcing Port Vale to a replay in the second round.

Mark Branch equalised for the non-league team just before half time after Luke Rogers had put the League One side ahead in the 16th minute.

Port Vale had much of the possession but failed to create many chances.

They were booed off in front of their home fans at Vale Park.

The winners of the replay will face a third round home tie against Cardiff.

In November 2005, Chasetown reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history but lost to Oldham Athletic.

Meanwhile, the cup draw sees Wolves face a home tie against Cambridge United.

West Brom travel to Championship promotion rivals Charlton Athletic.

It is deja vu for Aston Villa, who will host last year’s runners-up Manchester United.

The Premiership champions beat the Villans 2-1 at Old Trafford in the same round last year.

Birmingham City travel to Huddersfield and Walsall will host Millwall if they win their replay against Northampton.

Dead proud of the Chasetown boys. Not quiet so pleased with our draw though - but who cares as long as we get no more injuries.

    Who are they referring too;

    West Brom or Charlton?

Abdonwolf I think you may find that theheadline can be equally applied to the minnows of Cambridge United, who are now more confident of reaching the 4th round of the cup, knowing that they only have to get 1 goal to earn at least a draw at Molispew.

No 6 short memory pie and a pint,a south bank boing boing and you lost 3-0 to the only team in the blackcountry.

baggie9 isn’t your postcode at the hawthorns B71 4LF, or something or other??
Would that not indicate a Birmingham address???? for a Birmingham club. Currently the most under-performing Birmingham club next to Moseley Celtic FC.

What an afternoon for Scholars fans! A great big “thank you” to Charlie and the team- they really did us proud. I’m sure we local supporters get a bigger kick out of occasions like this than all those supporters of teams like Man U and Liverpool who travel miles to glory hunt!

Great to see so many Wolves/Walsall fans following Chasetown. Lets hope some of them defect permanently.

I for one hope Albion go out? We are not going to win the cup, so the sooner were out the better. It was the cup run that probably caused us to miss out on automatic promotion last year. We never recovered after the Middlesbro games. Promotion this year is all that matters.

    9. Tony. Wolverhampton has never ever been part of the Black Country..
    12. Paul. If Wolves ever drop a division or two then that is very likely!! Good luck in the replay!!

Yet again another amazing result. Its becoming a regular thing. Lets just hope we get the recognition we deserve and get a live replay. This result quite clearly shows the Premiership and the champions League are great competitions, but the F.A Cup is easily the best competition in the world. Well done Chasetown, do us proud and finish the job! We are all behind you!!

Having seen how the money from the last cup run has helped the club and improved facilities I hope they get a few quid from this year too - this really is the life blood of the smaller clubs.

What the FA Cup is all about.
