Thousands of fans packed out the NEC for an energetic set by everyone’s favourite boy band McFly, celebrating their time at the top with a Greatest Hits tour.
I have never set myself up as their most devoted fan but even I was surprised by the number of songs I was singing along to.
There were boos towards the end of last night’s show - but only because they announced they were doing just one more song and the mostly glammed-up female audience was disappointed the set would not be going on until the early hours.
Coming on stage to a Bee Gees track, the McFly boys are truly great performers. Launching into an impressive back catalogue, and on Dougie’s 20th birthday, it was a great show. All their famous tracks were featured, as expected from a greatest hits tour, such as Obviously, one of their several number ones, and Transylvania, which was dedicated to the X Factor’s Rhydian.
Moving from the main stage to a central pit (a bonus for those in the cheap seats according to Tom) was an inspired move, only slightly messed up by distracting visuals at the front.
A cover of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, released by the boys as a single, and a quite brilliant version of Rihanna’s Umbrella were highlights. Time to buy that Greatest Hits CD for me, then.

I was there last night and it was brill! I was in the cheap seats and was only 5 rows away when they moved to the centre stage. 2nd time I’ve seen McFly (1st time was when they supported Busted a few years ago) and they are better than ever.

I went to the NEC gig, and they were fantastic! It’s the 1st time I’ve ever seen them live and I wasn’t disappointed. When they moved to the centre stage I was in the front row! Completely unexpected but a great plus. I cant wait to see them again, and hopefully there’s more to come!
