Four wins in a row, three of them away from home, these are crazy days indeed, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams
Even the most optimistic Villa fan is pleasantly surprised by our progress at the moment.
Over the years I’ve seen the big teams come to Villa Park and grind out results even when we’ve had more possession, and often having put them under real pressure without taking our chances.
Now we are starting to get the knack of doing the same ourselves. We are toughening up as a team and are becoming increasingly hard to beat.
We’ve also got more of a cutting edge up front, and that means we can pick up three points without always playing to our best.
Next up is Arsenal, which will of course be a huge test for our lads.
I simply cannot wait for this game, it should be an amazing atmosphere, and hopefully we can give them a real game.
The fans really appreciate the effort being put in on the pitch, and in turn the players seem to genuinely appreciate the support they receive from the Villa fans.
I’m sure they will be desperate to replicate the atmosphere following our victory against Chelsea and should be really up for it.
Can we qualify for Europe this season? Of course we can
Saturday’s result won’t be the deciding factor, we still have a long season ahead of us, but I trust Martin O’Neill to bring in more players in January of the right quality and temperament to help us keep up the pace.
The last few weeks demonstrate that we are moving in the right direction as a club and we all have to keep believing that we can achieve our ambitions this season and beyond.
There’s no reason why we can’t.
Villa fans what do you think?

I agree that Saturday’s result wont be a deciding factor in our destiny. The Euro places went down as far as 8th last season and probably will again this season. In all honesty it is the teams such as Everton, Blackburn, West Ham etc who are our real rivals. Those are the teams we just have to pick up points against if we want to make it into Europe. Having said that it was great to put one over on Chelsea and it would be fantastic if we could get something out of the match against Arsenal.
I too really looking forward to Saturday. Arsenal are a superb side and it will be another great Villa Park occasion and whatever happens we are still guaranteed to be in the top 7 even after of this weekends results!
Please lets not get too carried away with recent results, yes its great to look at the league positions and see Villa lying in 6th place, its great to see us winning by good margins, and its great to see the confidence running through the club, but lets not forget.
The teams we have played recently have not been that good and we have been only slightly better, Chelsea apart, look what happened against Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, and Tottenham, we were just not good enough and when we were we couldnt hold on to it.
Of course I hope we thump Arsenal, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going until January when hopefully MON will attract some good signings, but lets forget Europe until we actually get there. I’m not a pessimist, I’m a realist, if anyone out there thinks we are good enough for Europe, just think back how long ago it was that we actually won anything of note against European opposition. Lets stop counting chickens and get on with improving the team and our status in the Prem.
