Stourbridge snooker latest

redball.jpgPremier Division leaders Brierley Hill Snooker Club A had to concede 201 points and home advantage to Norton Social B, from division 1 in the first round of the team knockout competition.

Norton’s Barry Tromans did well to get close to David Oakes, but Maria Catalano, Mark Ganderton and Darren Oakes all won by at least 60 points to see Brierley Hill through to the next round.

Joint division 1 leaders Kingswinford Cons A made the most of a 93 point start to win away from home at Hot Shots SC. Paul Marsh and Ed Gough did well to win tight frames and John Hawker lost by only two points against the prolific Neil Beckley.

The other team at the top of division 1, Stourbridge Inst B, could not hang on to a 75 point start against Norton Social A, for whom Rob Pitt, Neil Rollinson, Chas Randle and Mick Worrall just did enough to give Colin Allport a 40 point lead for the final frame, which proved sufficient.

Amblecote Institute D have had a tremendous start to the season, and top division 2 by 10 points having won all 10 matches, but they could not hold their 106 point start against Kinver Constitutional A.

Young Mike Richards did well to make a break of 30 against Andrew Highfield, who had begun with a 45, but Kinver took all five frames, with David Timmington in particularly fluent form.

Kinver’s B team, mainly through John Rees, Arnold Tromans and Colin Stevens-Wood, saw off the challenge of Baggeridge Social B, and Kinver’s C team did well to come away from Brierley Hill SC B with victory thanks to Rob Jones, Graham Taylor and Frank Golding who all managed to beat their Premier opponents.

The highest break of the week was Andrew Round’s 61 for Amblecote RBL A, a decisive contribution which offset Mark Nemedi’s big win for Langley Bowling Club, and helped Amblecote to a narrow victory.

Amblecote Institute B’s Graham Holdnall’s 50 point win was significant against Dibdale SC B, while Amblecote’s A team took all five frames to beat Pensnett Liberals A, with Richard Brookes making a break of 50.

In a match of wide margin frames at Bearwood Cons, the home team’s Callum Downing and Joe Anderson both won well, but Steve Wakefield and Gavin Sloan did equally well for West Midland Police and Pete Gibbons held on to the Police’s advantage in the final frame.
