She may be the UK’s premier soul queen but round these parts Beverley Knight is known as one of Wolverhampton’s finest.
And when she stepped out on stage at the Civic Hall last night she was certainly ready to put on a good show for her homecoming gig.
The Pennfields singing sensation told the audience she had been counting down the days till her nationwide tour stopped off in Wolverhampton and by the cheers from the crowd, they felt much the same way.
She got the show under way with a rocking version of Ain’t That A Lot Of Love from her latest album Music City Soul which proved a good choice to get people warmed up.Beverley belts out big tunes bursting with passion. Her enthusiasm is quite infectious.
Alongside tracks from her latest album she mixed in some of her best known tunes from Made It Back and Keep This Fire Burning to her version of Janis Joplin’s Piece of My Heart. It was an energetic set which was met with constant clapping at its end to ensure she made her way back on stage for an encore - when she got an extra cheer for her arriving in a Wolves kit.
“I’m just one of you,” the emotional star told the crowd, but after a performance like that she is probably one of the best.
