Robocop-style cameras on way

wd2345322policecam-1-pm-17.jpgRobocop-style headcams are set to be used by police officers to film booze-fuelled domestic bust-ups in Dudley over the coming festive period.

Officers are expecting a traditional sharp increase in call-outs as the beer flows and the stresses and strains of Christmas take hold.

A designated car has been put on standby with specially trained officers armed with headcams, who will follow uniformed police to domestic abuse calls in Dudley.

The headcams will be used to film the scene, the incident and any injuries so prosecutions can still be pursued even if the victim withdraws their complaint later on.

Costing between £800 and £900 each and no bigger than the size of an AA battery, the gadgets fit above the ear and underneath the helmets of officers.

They are currently being tested by West Midlands Police in certain areas after other forces across the country used them to great success.

Det Insp Mark Wilson, head of Dudley’s Public Protection Unit, said: “Our message is simple – domestic abuse will not be tolerated. Offenders will be dealt with robustly by the police.”

Victims or witnesses of domestic violence can can police on 0845 113 5000.

Domestic abuse won’t be tolerated yet thousands of drivers go around with no headlights and just fog lights on instead.

Seems like another no brainer headline grabbing stunt whilst thousands of motorists drive illegally with no fear of getting caught.

Get a Grip West Midlands Police !!

LOL. no matter what they try, they will never sort out the “drunken problems of society”. They should concentrate on more important things like gun crime.
