Tears of joy were shed as a former Wolverhampton soldier was finally reunited with his Ukrainian wife after a year-long immigration battle.

David Evans, aged 23, and his 20-year-old bride Tanya wept in each other’s arms during an emotional reunion at Birmingham Airport. The couple were prevented from living together, days after their wedding, after being suspected by immigration officials of having a marriage of convenience.

But they fought the authorities and proved their love – and yesterday’s reunion came days after they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. David, of Fordhouses, said: “This is the best anniversary present we could have ever hoped for.”

The couple have been living apart since their wedding last November in Tanya’s home town of Kherson. They met while she was travelling through England and both worked at City Link in Walsall. They married in the Ukraine but Tanya was stopped from re-entering England.

If you are newly married and head over heels in love you wouldnt care where you lived so long as you were together. I am not against immigrants but why is it they must come to UK and we dont go and live in their country. I would have moved anywhere on earth as long as i were with my otherhalf. If they are genuine I wish them luck, but i still fail to see why everyone has to come over here.

Go anywhere in the world where British servicemen have served, and you will find one happily married to a local girl,It’s not all about immigration, it’s about LOVE! But a lot of you wouldn’t understand that, even if it happened to you.
