Two community support officers from Kidderminster and Stourport have been recognised for their contribution to policing in North Worcestershire.
Nathan Chater and Teresa Howells received certificates from Chief Supt David Spencer, North Worcestershire divisional commander, marking the completion of their probationary period.
They were part of a group of eight CSOs which also included officers from Redditch, Bromsgrove and Rubery. The CSOs started their careers with West Mercia Constabulary with a seven-week training programme at force headquarters beginning in August 2006, before moving on to the North Worcestershire division.
As part of their probationary period, the CSOs have each had to complete 400 assessments, equivalent to a Level 2 National Vocational Qualification.
Training sergeant Justin Taylor said: “I have been extremely impressed by the CSOs’
Chief Supt Spencer said the role was very rewarding. He added: “Community Support Officers do a great job. Working alongside Local Policing Officers, they bring something extra to our communities, and I am very pleased we have them.
“The certificates were presented in recognition of the huge amount of work they have put in during their probationary period, and are thoroughly deserved,” he added.

Why sing there praises when they are only doing what all police should be doing. it seems to alot of us that things like comendations, certificates, etc are handed out to local services like sweets. what about all the real service personel in the navy, army and the Raf they don’t get any rewards for doing there job that involves lots more trauma and danger than the local plod.
Its about time the british service personel get the same recognision and compensation as the local services.
disgruntalled
Why do we have CSOs at all?
I have nothing against people who are CSOs, but they should ALL be fully-trained police officers.
The concept of a Community Support Officers is a cheap attempt by the Government to put numbers on the streets while saving money at the same time. There should be more officers on the beat, but let’s make them ALL police officers.
