Albion derby countdown

West Bromwich AlbionAlbion boss Tony Mowbray hinted at a return to a two-man spearhead for tomorrow’s clash against Wolves – and more frustration for £3m wide man Chris Brunt.

Mowbray is shuffling his pack to overcome the absence of top scorer Kevin Phillips but has plenty of options with both Craig Beattie and Roman Bednar itching for a place alongside Ishmael Miller up front.

But the first outing without Phillips saw the Albion boss give Felipe Teixeira a chance to play a support role, a ploy which eventually paid handsome dividend when the Portuguese playmaker hit two in a 4-0 victory.

The injury to James Morrison opens another vacancy in midfield to be filled and the signs are that Teixeira will now be deployed there allowing Miller to be joined by an orthodox front-man – and Beattie is seen as the favourite.

Mowbray said: “There are people champing at the bit to get back into the team or to get a start and you have to decide the best time to give them that opportunity.

“Roman Bednar and Craig Beattie haven’t played in the last few weeks and the goals haven’t dried up. I’ve got confidence in the players.”

He added: “There are no doubts about the impact Chris will have here. I am sure he has no problems with the progress he is making here.”
