Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has put his side on alert for Albion hot shot Ishmael Miller – and admitted they looked at signing the strike ace.
The Molineux chief has identified the pace and power of nine-goal Miller as a potential danger ahead of tomorrow’s high noon Hawthorns showdown – singling out the striker as a likely menace.
And on the eve of the big game he has revealed that Miller could have been a Wolves player if he’d been made available earlier in the summer.
“I did look at Ishmael Miller and liked him. He’s a young player still learning his game – he’s very powerful and very quick and he’s been a real influence on their team.
“I’m sure he’ll be a real danger on Sunday too. We did look at him and of course I thought he looked a good prospect.
“But by the time that became available I’d got my four centre forwards with Freddy (Eastwood), Stephen Elliott, Andy Keogh and Jay Bothroyd and I’d probably got my squad settled when that situation arose.”
McCarthy admits it is a boost for Wolves that veteran forward Kevin Phillips – who scored three times against the Molineux men last season – is missing from Sunday’s Hawthorns clash.
But he has warned Wolves that Albion pose a threat from all over the pitch.
“They’ve lost arguably their most influential player in Kevin Phillips, who would be a real loss to anyone the way he was playing,” McCarthy said.
“But they have other good players like Miller and Felipe Teixiera, who is a fine midfielder.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy insists skipper Gary Breen is recovering from injury at his own pace.
“Breeny will be fit when he’s ready,” he said. “He’s different class with his rehab and the work he does with the physios. He knows his body best.”

Millers ok but am sure MM has done his homework and knows that Miller is only one footed, as long as we keep him off his left foot he is of no threat.

as usual wolves will come expecting a result, but as soon as we start playing our superior football the gold and black army will be heading for the exits long before the final whistle. i love the albion cos they play champagne football whilst our neighbours play a kind of chicken chasing format.

Strange and unexpected results do happen. Megsons bolton have just beaten the mighty man utd 1-0, not many would expect that.
