A former West Bromwich chief superintendent who picked up the Queen’s Police Medal during his 38 years’ service has died aged 93.
Harvey Birch joined Staffordshire Police in 1936 and worked for the force in West Bromwich. He retired in 1974. After retiring, he moved to Stone in Staffordshire, before moving back to Great Barr five years ago.
Mr Birch, who had Alzheimer’s Disease, died of pneumonia last Friday, leaving a widow Doris, daughter Jennifer, grandchildren Christopher and Paul and greatgrandchildren Samuel and Laura.
The funeral will be at Newton Road Crematorium, West Bromwich, at 3.30pm on Friday.
