    Where were the gritters yesterday?

There is no point gritting when it is raining / sleeting as it would simply be washed down the drains. Surprised no treatment appeared to be carried out in my brough (Dudley) late last night when it started to settle though!

  9. PAUL said:

The gritters did come out in wolverhampton was a little late when they did as the roads already had a few cm’s of snow on them but none the less they were about

What luck here in London all we got was freezing wind and lashes of rain

Gaddamit, we’ve got it so wrong! Instead of entrusting high-payed Chief Executives to run out local councils and appoint managers to mobilise the gritters we should evidently give the job to Si and Ste who evidently think that by opening a door or looking out of the window the enormous task of gritting the second largest conurbation in the country will be completed!

Can anyone remember the last time we had significant snowfall in November? Here’s hoping for more!

  14. Mich said:

Severe weather warnings on met office web site yesterday afternoon, shame they did not warn of 15 hour power cut, no heat, no light, no hot water but plenty of weather.

I drove back from walsall to longbridge last night on the M5 and the A491.

Was fantastic experience, also hillarious to see large 4×4 and family cars sliding down Frankley hill, when i was in a peugeot 106!!

    Bring more snow!!

  17. Matty said:

I had to drive from Tame Bridge Walsall back to Longbridge. It was 10:30pm when i left, the snow was at its worst! GOing on the motorway and driving on A roads was a new experience! IF anyone knows Frankley hill, then you will know how hard it is in snow, cars were sliding and stuck, very funny i thought! But i made it up first time in a little 106….justice!!

  18. Walsall Ladette said:

Walsall roads were very good this morning and i think the gritters started about 12 midnight. Not the Chaos that the happened last time. Even BBC interactive were playing down the snowfall at 11.23pm when it was snowing heavily - not even BBC take it serious (god forbid snow in london it would have been the main news headline)

I live in Poland and it we’ve hardly had any snow. It looks chilly in the Black Country!

  20. Wednesbury Wolf said:

I had to get my wife to Sandwell A & E at around 10.30pm and the roads where an absolute disgrace. In hindsight i would have been better calling for an ambulance as it took me over an hour on the main roads from Wednesbury up to the hospital! I did not see one gritter in the time i was on the road…
It’s the same year in year out we as a country never learn to deal with inclement weather (Floods earlier in the year and the little bit of snow!)

  21. Dave said:

On pretty much this day two years ago we had some sudden snowfall when the rain turned and created chaos. I can also remember snow in November (significant amounts) in the very late 80’s when I was a kid.

There was plenty of snow in Vienna at the weekend (and it was cold in the Ernst Happel Stadium on Friday night!!! Damn metal seats…) The difference is, not only do they clear the roads here, we also change our tyres.

  23. kb said:

a couple a mm of snow and the midlands grinds to a stop… crazy…

  24. marbella ken said:

Clear blue skies and hot, hot, hot down here. It’s only a couple of hours away so pack a bag and you can hit the beach for some sunshine therapy.Much as I love W-ton it’s at times like this that I don’t envy you!

  25. Andy said:

The gritters were out about 9pm in Wednesfield

  26. Daisy said:

Where were the Dudley MBC gritters around cradley? There will still none around even at 11pm last night. Well, maybe the director of childrens services will decide to close the schools instead next time. There were plenty Sandwell MBC in the sandwell borough area they even started on Wednesday. So much for our highly inflated council tax in dudley borough.

    SNOW? What’s that?

Oh, yes, I remember. It’s the stuff that turns a 20 minutes drive home into a 3 hour nightmare :)

Ian - in a nice warm Western Australia

  30. kb said:

The UK seems to be the only country about that CANT cope with a few mm / cm’s of snow. The rest of the world can get feet of the stuff and they still carry on with normal day to day things! Really is mad. Bring on more snow, thats what i say - Rather than the half slush stuff we normally get - people should stop moaning and get on with it. And yes, i have been caught up in the traffic, which has turned a 30 minute journey to a 3 hour journey to do 18 miles…

Enjoy it when it snows and you never know, you might even get a day off work if its THAT bad…!!!!

None of that here in Saudi Arabia. We do miss it.

i agree with kb’s comments, as we are now gearing up for winter snowfall in Michigan and well can honestly say that it will never disrupt our daily events once. So come on UK get up to speed and prepare properly.
