When asked to write a blog concerning my happiest memories of facing the Baggies, I can’t say that there has been many to choose from the last 20 years or so, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
It could be the clash at the Hawthorns in 1996 when ‘all I want for Christmas’ scored a hat-trick, but I wasn’t there so I can’t choose that wonderful, wonderful game.
I’ve chosen a couple of games that have given me reason to cheer.
Uriah Rennie, the referee who managed to send off Alan Shearer for ‘backing in’, took charge of Wolves vs. Albion in March 2001 at Molineux.
Amazingly he actually refereed the game well and had to be at his black-belt best to stop some pretty ferocious challenging ruining the game.
Two of my all-time favourite Wolves cult-heroes of recent years scored that day; Ludovic Pollet and George Ndah (my lord).
Ndah got his brace in the first half with a couple of sweetly taken goals.
Wolves’ fans were extremely saddened when George finally admitted defeat to a catalogue of injuries and hung up his boots last year.
I met George when Wolves played a friendly in Den Haag (Holland) under the Twoddle regime in 2005.
A nicer man you could never wish to meet, a fantastic talent and a true gent.
Ludo played for the club for four seasons, but only really made sub appearances for the final two seasons.
Signed on a free from Le Havre, Ludo became a real crowd favourite and was our player of the season for 1999/2000.
He probably had his best game in a Wolves shirt against the Baggies in March 2001, scoring a goal and defending superbly.
For this game we also had Proudlock in attack who unsurprisingly missed a boat load of chances.
A certain Robert Taylor and Cedric Roussel were on the bench; I’ve only just finished the counseling sessions to erase the horrible memory that those three players were ever at the club.
My abiding memory of that game was that we were always in complete control, despite Neil Clement hitting a late consolation goal for the Albion.
March is obviously a fantastic time to play our dear friends.
March 2007 saw us finally defeat the old enemy in a season where it felt like every other game was Wolves vs Albion.
Jay Bothroyd scored the only goal in the 83rd minute of a scintillating game where Matt Murray had to be at his majestic best.
Wolves fans spilled out of a packed Molineux rejoicing our victory, but alas it was an emotion that we would feel only once in five games last season against the Baggies.
So when do we play the Albion this season at Molineux? Oh yes, it’s March again, hoorah for that.
Wolves fans, what do you think? Have your say below

ludo was quality
and a fit ndah was completly different gravy
bring on march
Derby days are always filled with mixed emotions, I love and hate them. Love if we win, hate if we lose, if we lose it seems like everyone is a baggie just to have a pop at you!
Anyway ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh lord George Ndahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I think the most i have ever celebrated a goal was last season when Jay Bothroyd scored his goal. The south bank didn’t stop jumping around for 10 solid minutes, I was absolutely knackered. Continued the celebrations in the Claredon all night, only problem was next day was a Monday, fair to say not much work got done that day!
i remember the play off semi’s last season. oh memories
The play off final was quality as well!
FA Cup, January 2007. Best away game i have ever been to, What a day.
Boing Boing
I don’t think much to any of the darby days. I enjoy beating the ‘big’ clubs!
Ludo.. top man. Did anyone see his face by the time he moved on? More cuts than Rocky Balboa! People talk about giving blood and sweat for a cause, this man did both by the gallon.
Ludo Pollet great player. I’d be quite happy for him to be playing centre half now. Great commitment, gave everything for the cause. Top bloke. Why Jones froze him out i don’t know. His performances spoke for themselves.
What was wrong with Roussel ?
The boy was never given a chance at Molineux.
Proudlock & Taylor, now thats 2 diffrent stories……….
2 games in particular adn both involving Phil Parkes. The first a night game in 1967 a 3-3 draw. Tony Brown punched their final goal in to earn the draw. There was a melee in the penalty area and Big Phil landed a beauty on Clive Clark. I cannot remember the date of the next one but Astle was trying to stop Phil throwing the ball. He couldn’t and the ball went up to the half way line and all eyes followed the ball. Looking back Astle was flat out So Phil must have accidentally caught him with his throwing arm.
Proudlock used to struggle to finish a dinner.
glad everyone appreciates Ludo’s huge contribution back then… what a player!
not seeing him on the field back in those days used to make me as mad as seeing breen on the field these days.
COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!
Cedric had a touch of the ‘Elliots’ about him. Looked classy at times but didn’t put the ball in the net enough!
“Keith Curl, there’s only one Keith Curl”
Ludo always gave 110%, note all present wolves players that’s what all wolves supporters expect of you
no excuses if you are hit in the face or are bleeding!! Ludo never gave up.
Ludo was quality, couldn’t keep the guy down. Wish there was a few more players like him about. He’d never go without a game needing some lengthy treatment, come back and still complete the game, Legend! Unlike other players who often look they had been taken out with a snipper. Never know us dominate a local derby like that. How I hope we can dominate it next weekend, Just hope a game like this can really kickstart our goal scores season and we can push on from here. Its nice to have such a good goal conseded column, just need to compliment this with a few more goals scored.
Fingers crossed!!!!
Rob hindmarch….remember ?
got to be one of the worst centre halves I have seen at the Wolves (I.M.O.) couldn’t get around the pitch.
Still gave me one of my best memories from when I was a kid though.
We’ll never forget.
R.I.P.
My favourite goals were 2 for Danny Crainie’s in our 3-1 win at the Hawthorns 1983, Bully’s winner in front of us in away end, & of course Rob Hindmarch’s equaliser at the same end. Think the ref was not going to blow till we did equalise as i’m not sure where the 10+ minutes injury time came from. Their away end was great terrace to be in & the celebrations went on forever. Seats just aren’t the same. Anyone remember the 2-0 win in the fog at Molineux?
playoffs and fa cup
memories!!!!!!!!
My favourite memory was on 15th September 1996 , my daughter was born 2am then off I went in a blur up to the Hawthorns.
After 20 minutes I was in total dreamland , then finally winning 4 - 2 with a Roberts hat trick .
I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life !
P.S Unfortunately My daughter hasn,t seen them win there since !
dave..that’s what dreams arw made of..
when my twin girls were born at 5am saturday morning after 12 hour labour, id didn’t think anyone in the ground felt as tired as I did come 3pm. The wolves team contrived to lose 1-2 against tranmere, they were the only ones more tired than me.
The Tuesday following the little ones were still in hospital, and we drew at home 0 - 0.
Although I always follow the team closely on the radio, i never regret giving up my season ticket! I’ve served my apprenticeship, hereford, darlington, vale park, hawthorns, all the little clubs.
The Baggies have weaknesses that we can exploit. Kightly hat-trick!
1958 Albion 0 Wolves 3. Broadbent and Clamp keeping possession in dying minutes and driving the Baggies fans mad.
I’m with Simon in Oklahoma on this 1 Cranie game was superb we hadn’t won away all season and this was November!! and it was on MoTD that night, we went fron Darlo and filled the upstairs of a 79 bus Happy Daze.
Iwan Roberts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4-2 at the Poorthorns, great game.
Memories last but you are only as good as the last game, bring on the 25th, I hope its entertaining and the Gold and Black rule the next few months.
The 2001 game was a great day out for me. I was invited to the Good Year entertainment suite and met George after the game and he autographed the prog for me - really nice bloke.
Oh and the result………
