Controversial proposals to build a speedway stadium for Cradley Heathens on green belt land have been thrown into doubt after council officers asked for more detail on the plans.
The plans, submitted to Dudley Council a fortnight ago, have been returned to developers because of concerns about the impact the stadium would have on the surrounding area. There are also worries about the design of the stadium and transport links.
The shock delay was announced at a meeting of Halesowen Area Committee when it was revealed the council has not registered the application for land in Cradley.
Officials have asked developers for more information about issues including noise, the loss of open space, and traffic congestion.
The announcement has given organisers behind a campaign opposing the development some breathing space as they battle to block the scheme.
When the application is re-submitted, the council will have 16 weeks to make a decision over whether to approve it. About 400 people attended a meeting last week to voice their concerns.
The application to build the stadium on land behind the Powerleague football complex is backed by a near 10,000-name petition by team supporters.

A BUILT-UP AREA FROM MELTON MOWBRAY TO CLEOBURY MORTIMER ????? RUINING A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY INTO THE BARGAIN. BROWNFIELD SITES EXIST AND HOUSING IS NOT THE ONLY REQUIREMENT.ALL THIS BECAUSE THE LAST ONE GOT SHUT DOWN……
Please tell me when the council will back us to have our speedway back ?We was told there was issues to be sorted which they were and now they find more ?If the council did the right thing in the first place and STOPPED the houses been built at Dudley Wood then there would be no upset about it,being built here.So come on council lets get it all sorted and lets hear the famous war cry again OM UM CRADLEY
Speedway should come back to the borough.
Has the possibility of sharing an existing facility been considerd, after all speedway has so few meetings a year. This happens with other sports.
It is wrong of CRASH to try and foist the speedway track on Cradley. Very few of the locals want it ( and who would!) Speedway has had it day in this area and the former supporters of Cradley Heath should accept that.
For the umpteenth time the application has not been submitted by CRASH.
And, if speedway has had its day why is there still a lot of support for it?
waste of time
RE.John what a narrow minded ill informed comment . i can just see you sat in a pub moaning away like alf garnett . speedway is wanted back in the area by an awful lot of people and can only be a benefit to the local business’s
