Angry fans have called on singer Amy Winehouse to get help for her troubles after her Birmingham show descended into total chaos.
Many of the fans are demanding their money back following the 24-year-old’s tortured performance at a packed National Indoor Arena last night.
She only managed almost an hour on stage after coming on about 50 minutes late, and struggled with her lyrics as some of the crowd claimed she appeared drunk.
As the crowd vented their frustration, the London-born artist got into a confrontation with the audience, swearing at those who were booing, then adding: “Second of all, wait ‘til my husband gets out of incarceration. And I mean that.”
As the show neared the end scores of fans headed for the exit as the singer stumbled through a cover of The Zuton’s Valerie. She
During the show she was reduced to tears after dedicating one of her songs, Wake Up Alone, to her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently on remand in Pentonville Prison.
Just hours before the concert it was reported that Winehouse had visited her husband.
Dressed in a black mini skirt and shiny silver top with her trademark beehive hairdo, Winehouse’s performance included badly sung versions of hits such as Back To Black and Tears Dry On Their Own.
Afterwards hordes of fans were demanding their money back and urging the artist to get help.
Jo Hess, of Perton, Wolverhampton, said: “She was late starting and she started crying when she got booed off at the end.
“To sum up she was atrocious. At one point she dropped her mic and hit her head on the microphone stand – she was all over the place.
“Most of the time she couldn’t stand up straight. She sang perhaps a few words of each song and ended up mumbling.
“The whole show was an embarrassment – the girl needs help. She’s a huge talent but a troubled soul.” Tracy Owens, aged 46, from Shoal Hill in Cannock, said: “She looks like she is in a lot of trouble and I would say she looked drunk. You can’t go on stage at the NIA and act like that.
“It was like watching a car crash, you didn’t want to see it but you couldn’t help but look. I will ask for my money back.”
Roy Guest, from Chelmsley Wood, added: “If I was that drunk at work I would get the sack. For the last six songs you couldn’t even understand what she was saying. We are going to ask for our money back as well.”
Rachel Thompson, from Wednesfield added: “I am really gutted, but I did feel sorry for her.
“She did really well to keep going and she’s like everyone else, she has got problems. I was a bit disappointed.”
But not all the concertgoers were against the singe. Emma Dawson, from West Bromwich, said: “She is an emotional person and I thought she did really well. The people who were booing her were out of order.”

I feel sorry for all those fans who worked hard and paid good money to go see what should of been an excellence performance by an original artist. Instead they got a incompetant drunk who is clearly having problems and because of her raise to fame feels she does not owe a duty to fans. Whatever kind of entertainment a person is in they owe a duty to the fans because it is those people who rack up the thousands of pound she recieves for what she does.
Any one who wants to see a drink/drug self induced waste of space can see them for free without paying to see this overatted talentless singer who is a disgrace to the music business.
It was thoroughly disappointing and painful to watch. The band deserve medals for courage. Please give us our money back and get her some help.
i totally agree with the comments so far, i was there last night right near the front, the support bands were great better than amy, after waiting nearly an hour she walks on and is about to start singing and spills her drink on her face, you could see she was in another world her manager should be sacked, she’s very frail, when some of the crowd booed she called them monkey*****,and slurring her words all over the place, a real shame really she could be top british female singer, but i hate to say this but she’ll won’t be here much longer, but looking on the bright side of the gig, bryn christopher support singer was great.
i look at things in life from both sides. i imagine my self in her shoes and if people were boo-ing at me id do the same. every one is going over the top cuase she is famous. they are no different, she probley going through a rough patch at the moment, dont we all! if this was one of your family singing in a pub would you be this angry??? no its cuase shes higher up, and there seems to be that many story about this girl,
DO YOU KNOW THIS ARE CORRECT OR ARE YOU JUST BELIEVING WHAT PEOPLE SAY!
i think if it was that bad then she should not of came on to stage… but then again. but then again im sure everyone would still be talking about her.
so could she of done right last night? as long as she tried who cares….
life is to short
@katie: ’so could she of done right last night? as long as she tried who cares….’
Ermm what about the people that had paid £25+ of their hard earned to see someone turn up drunk and put on a terrible show. Not exactly value for money.. You can see drunk idiot wannabe singers down the Dog and Duck most Friday nights for free…
turns up an hour late? Obviously doesn’t like her fans then.
Glad I aint one of them who wasted money on her album.
Girls a mess. DRINKING BEFORE THE SHOW *** Which she had promised her dad Mitchel not to do. *** She has bi-polar mood issues, so everything is ten times harder than for regulars. When she’s finding it so hard she can make an effort like at Joes Pub, here, instead of giving up to alcohol. *** Gawd, I hate Blake, who’s a stranger to me. Numnutz.
I saw her, I loved her, I empathise with her… Her husband is in prison facing a life sentance and she had to sing songs she had wrote about him. It would kill me! Do you all forget what a broken heart feels like? Everyone who knows Amy Winehouse knows she has a rocky life your not gonna buy Amy Winehouse tickets and get a Natasha Beddingfield gig are you?!? Lets hope she gets the help she needs.
I feel sorry for the fans who have put money and effort into seeing her and getting let down, but i think we as the general public need to rally behind Amy and give her support, as she obviously has her problems. Rehab? Yes, yes, yes…. I genuinely dont want her to be rememebered as a wasted talent.
I also attended the gig last night, and it was embarrasing to watch, i will surely be asking for a refund!
Yes i respect her for turning up, but from the performance and state she was in it would of been better to of just not turned up!
Amy Winehouse is a fantastic singer. First time I saw her perform I thought wow! Shame last night didnt go well.
So called fans should cut her some slack and give her the much needed support she needs.
Booing performers is very rude and it doesn’t surprise me that this happened in Birmingham, home to some of the best rudest people in the world!
Oh please, people have every right to boo when they have paid out good money and are disappointed, we don’t all live in fluffy bunny land.
Oh but of course, there are no rude people in Wolverhampton, only in Birmingham! I think not.
I feel sorry for Amy, but she should have pulled the gig and refunded the money. £25 is a lot of money. Most of us go through hard times and have to keep on working as there is NO CHOICE!
im sorry but i was there last night right at the front, she spatt on stage and not forgetting that the threw the mic stand of the stage nearly hitting me and other fans!
alright people saying dont boo but i bet tickets cost 25quid minunum?
then travelling there
i mean i went to see 50cent other night which was great
but if he turned up on stage 50mins late then didnt perform because he was wasted i would sure as hell boo/leave/ask for money back
why not
she is quick enough to keep everyones money, its not like this is a one of either?
everyone moans at rap etc… but 50cent respected his crowd, turned up on time, delivered a high performance and thanked the crowd after
now thats a true person not amy winehouse
I walked out following the fourth song, out of time, out of tune, out of her head, I’m a massive fan, but if that’s the best she can do, she can keep it, sorry wont be seeing any more of my money, the girl is a massive talent but see really needs to sort out her life, I’ve been a regular concert goer for 30 odd years, and it’s the first time I’ve ever walked out, and the first time I’ve ever left a gig feeling totally frustrated and disillusioned.
Emma D, I was there, if she couldn’t perform then she should have postponed, we could have had a refund and gone back at a latter date when she was feeling up to it, I love her music and her lyrics, but sorry, that was a joke.
Rob Wolf, You must have seen my earlier posts, the one thing I didn’t waste my money on was her album, it’s a true classic, unlike last nights performance.
Yeah.. she’s the only person in the history of the human race to be going through a rough time.
I’m sorry, but there are people everywhere having hard lives, who still manage to do their crappy mundane jobs to pay the bills. She may be famous (we’re not worthy and all that), but she was there to do a job. The gig should have been cancelled if she wasn’t up to doing it, instead of stinging people out of £25.
If I turned up to work drunk, crying and incapable, I’m sure I’d be right out of the door. I’m sure everyone around me wouldn’t be going “oh, poor thing.. she’s having a tough time you know, lets support her”…. boo hoo!
Amy Winehouse is an undeniably talented singer- her album is amazing and her fans should be supporting her through this traumatic time not booing! She could have easily cancelled the concert, but no she struggled through for her fans!
If people were expecting a perfect performance from amy winehouse then they obviously dont know who she is. It took amazing courage for her to even shop up, let alone sing certain songs with such meaning, and we should be appreciative of that. She is obviously going through a hard stage, and puit her life and soul into the peformance, and I loved it. It is clear she wasnt ready, but she did it for her fans, so thanks amy!
And about the booing - there was hardly any booing, in fact i didnt hear any, and her performaces were mostly incredible and amazingly heartfelt.
i must say sorry to any birmingham people who where there last night it was’nt only brummies booing londoners black country notts etc ,amy even throw a ciggie at the crowd and nearly fall off the stage as i’ve said in my last comment her manager should be sacked asap.
amy shoud be at this moment…. one of
the top acts in the uk
people pay good money to see her.
she may be playing up to the press
nancy+sid I DON T THINK SO
AMY GET A LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
JBC
Incompetent drunk. She has robbed her fans of their money which takes them longer to earn than her. She should offer a full refund or be prosecuted by the trading standards since she theoretically offerred a ‘concert’
Katie message five, have you been on the same loupy juice. Dont try to help a person with these sort of problems cause they dont want it, ask Pete Dougherty. I’m sure you know what people are trying to say it’s just that they cant do it without hurting someone and she put herself up on that stage not the people paying to see a show not a show of her down fall.
I was there at the gig and it was just so sad to see. I think everyone who was there wished her well, her life is currently very public, nobody was there to see her fall flat.
I dont blame her for anything either, its got to be down to her management for letting her go onstage in such a state. You know you dont go to see her to get a polished all singing all dancing performance, however a few coherent lyrics would have been nice.
Her management should feel very proud of themselves for making sure she got on stage so refunds could be avoided.
What a waste of space she is, i wouldn’t see her if SHE paid me.
Her management need to take responsibilty for this. They should not have allowed her to go on stage.
Can’t wait for her 2008 joint headlining tour with Pete Doherty
…I’ve got money to burn…the pair of wastrels…pfft
you are a great singer but you need to get it together coz u r throwing your life away
