Tuesday 13th November 2007, 11:29AM GMT.
Albion were today coming to terms with the loss of a third key player to serious injury – as boss Tony Mowbray insisted Kevin Phillips could yet be back for Christmas.
In-form midfielder James Morrison is set to join Phillips and Martin Albrechtsen in a prolonged spell on the sidelines after being carried off in the first half of the Baggies’ 4-0 victory at Coventry last night.
The 22-year-old twisted his knee awkwardly as he tried to keep a Dean Kiely throw in play and was stretchered off the field in obvious pain.
The £1.5m summer signing is set to undergo a scan on the injury later today when Albion will learn the full extent of the damage.
Mowbray is hopeful Morrison has suffered nothing more than a medial knee ligament injury rather than cruciate knee ligament damage – a problem that in itself could keep him out for around six weeks.
But after already losing Albrechtsen and Phillips to knee injuries against Sheffield Wednesday last week, Mowbray admits it’s a headache he could do without.
“James is pretty upset and he’s going to go for a scan today,” said Mowbray. “He got his studs caught in the grass and twisted his knee.
“It’s another injury we can do without. We’ve gone from starting the season pretty well to Phillips, Albrechtsen and now Morrison being injured.
“We just hope it’s good news on Morrison when we get the results.
“Let’s hope it’s not cruciate ligament damage and it’s just the medial ligaments which might keep him out for four to six weeks.
“We’ll know more after the scan. Let’s hope it’s positive.”
Meanwhile, Mowbray has been quick to stamp down on weekend reports suggesting Phillips’ season could be over because of cruciate ligament damage.
It will be next week before Albion learn the full extent of the veteran striker’s injury.
But, with the 34-year-old still able to drive to the club’s training ground and walk around unaided, Mowbray has delivered a positive bulletin on his leading scorer’s progress

oh dear the sandwell boys are dropping like flies, up the villa!

What a stupid comment. We’ll just have to use some of the £10M for the misfit to buy some replacements come January.
Dropping like flies LOL, TM wanted more subs because we got depth of players, 4 goals without KP is awsome and we can win the title by feb 08 easy, Be nice to see davis on the bench when we play villa. Boing boing
Report abuse
villa fc i shouldn’t worry about the albion if i was you. i would be more worried about the fact the villa have got to spend nearly £10m on a defender that is not clearly good enough to get in your side come the end of the season.
WE SAW YOU COMING HA HA
BOING BOING

Typical villa(ge) idiot.
Think e&s should take comment down.
I feared all were out for season so kind of delighted with news.
We have more than enough back up so no problem.
Dingles are very quiet this a.m!!!!
Mmmm… perhaps they’re watching the re-run.
Great result after poor 1st half.
‘champagne albion’

Well done. You put 4 goals past 10 men.

Good luck for a full and speedy recovery to all the Tesco injured players – I hate it when players suffer any type of injury – we’ve had more than our share at Molineux over the years!
6 – better than the 2 you put past 9 man (bottom of the league) norwich. You sad jealous muppet.
We’d have scored 4 if they’d had 12 men! Superb 2nd half..
8. Nice comment.
Villa(ge) Idiot!! Nice! lol!
It’s sounding promising on the injuries – but even without those 3 we still beat a team only 2 points behind the Dingles – on their patch!
Outscoring the Dingles almost 2 to 1 over the season so far, and only conceded 1 more – they must be doing themselves when they think about the 25th!
Away form looking decent too – last two games – scored 7 conceded none.
What a great time to be a Baggie!!
Boing Boing!!

stupid comment 7!
You clearly must have forgotten carbon disgraceful tackle on Ndah which effectively ended his career!
sad loss with morrison but who cost 1.5 mill but when you have a player that cost 3 million to replace him shows the depth of the squad.
(6) you are correct and we got 3 points for it and your point is?

No: 11

Happy_Baggie.
a. I’m not sad I’m very happy thank you
b. I’m certainly not jealous
c. I can move my limbs of my own accord therefore I am not a muppet.
If you wish to get carried away with a 4-0 win over a team a man down that’s fine. Just don’t revert to pathetic name calling.

Sandylane clearly knows his stuff!! LOL Koumas and Kamara have left the albion. Sandylane should stick to potato picking.

Sorry my comments were directed at Dingleshandee!!

Happy why is it when anyone says anything you get upset about you always have to take one step further by name calling, it just makes you look sad and totally pathetic grow up.

Nice one Dingle Shandee – I’ll help you net the fish known as S Egan.
Straight in the net.
Nathan, the answer is 7 – you’ve been askin for months.
Dingle Shandee we may have injuries but atleast we can find the back of the net as your keeper will find out next sunday!!!
Nasty – no one likes to see good young talented players like that get crocked – at least you’ll manage to hold on to him until the end of the season now
Report abuse
personally it seems asthough all the midland clubs apart from us are jealous of us
dingles because the am crap and cant take it that they cant beat us
villa becuase they am going nowere and spend £10m on a crap player to have splinters in his backside!!!
Dingles, your scared face it. You have to travel to the Hawthorns to watch us dish out another footballing lesson.
If make’s you feel better to clutch at straws and go on about injuries so be it. When you can compete against us on the pitch then open your mouths but as all we did last season is spank you with more to follow in a week of so, i would try to keep your purile nonsense to a minimum

10-3 makes such a silly comment
“Typical villa(ge) idiot.
Think e&s should take comment down. ”
THEN HE SAYS THIS
“Dingles are very quiet this a.m!!!!
Mmmm… perhaps they’re watching the re-run.”
I couldnt care less if you won 6-0 lose 2-0 or draw 20-20
all what matters is my teams performance on 25th our next match
and quite frankly i didnt watch you the 1st time let alone repeat i was watching better football in arsenal vs reading – thats not a cheap shot its just true (they better than my wolves to lol)
lmao shame your team cant perform any time they play!
5. Nathan 10-3 May i just quickly say i just got back from WORK like most other dingles. I guess thats why we were quiet this a.m. So why dont you go out and get a job you sad sad baggie. Oh and dont build your hopes up yet you dole dosser!
Everything will be decided on the 25th
the game will either go two ways: if you play openly we will rip you apart and score a bunch, if you are tight and park the team bus in front of the goal then it will be a 1-0 to either team or a 0-0 draw
tbh i can see us winning because our team is still superior, any person who has a clue about football can see that

mick mccarthy was at the ricoh watching a real team play. All u dingles r scared ha ha up the albion

To all baggies fans lets not get carried away or start gloating about what we are going to do to the Dingles. Its a local derby, two teams over 90 minutes and anything can happen (eg Sheff Wed – robbed, Cov City their best player sent off). Let’s wait until after the game and then see who can claim the bragging rights.
I have to say though I was with 3 Sheff Wed fans in the directors box (bragging) for the Wednesday game and they could not speak highly enough of our football. They said it was the best they had seen all season (played Watford and Wolves!) and Dick Turpin took pity on them.
Anyway we are nicely placed and all to play for. Roll on the 25th

I love one of the comments above “think E&S should take the comment down” said by nathan 10-3 i think! yet most of you cant help yourselves coming on our pages having a go or making comments and if we complain we supposedly cant take the stick!
as for comment 24 baggie saying how we laugh at your injuries, have you seen our pages on kightlys injury……. if only he could be missing for the 25th there all saying…..go on, i know your all thinking it too!!
I do, like num.7 hope the inury aint too bad and hope he recovers fully for the future, but for saying us dingles are scared…..afraid not lads, more excited, bring on the 25th is all i say! I want all your lot fit, no excuses that way!

To No.11. I sat within a few feet of that Carbon tackle on Ndah and it was quite disgraceful, but give Megson his due, he shipped him out very quickly afterwards with a rude comment about his attitude.
PS:Have you missed out your BA degree from your title?
