West Midland Regional Women’s League - Div.1 North
The first half saw Cottage Farm defend brilliantly and Wyrley only had a couple of chances which they failed to punish with but the second half proved to be a different story.
Wyrley started to pass the ball with accuracy and they began to look like the team we know.
A corner taken by Jade Ward was cleared by the Cottage Farm’s defence but it fell into the path of defender Katie Warmer 35 yards out and a magnificent strike put them in the lead, it was her first ever goal and and one she can be very proud of.
Kirsty Hughes then picked up the ball in midfield and a superb run was finished off with a superb shot beating the keeper and into the back of the net.
Stacey Arnold was being well marked all through the game but when a free kick taken by Carena Dixon was picked up in the box by her she finally managed to shake off her markers and scored a tremendous goal.
Dixon who had a fantastic game then picked up the ball on the wing and crossed to the far post where Jenny Kendrick met the ball perfectly to head home Wyrley’s fourth goal.
It was a brilliant second half performance with every player playing their part, at the back Megan Cook, Gemma Whitehouse and Katie Warmer were solid and Emily Lloyd in goal did whatever was asked when needed, midfield Carena Dixon, Amie Poole, Kirsty Hughes, Jenny Kendrick and Sam Cullum all played well, Stacey Arnold up front was outstanding.
Jade Ward on the wing made great runs and caused loads of problems for Cottage and April Phillips playing out of position due to injury to striker Claire McHugh was tremendous, Steph Clarke remained on the bench but only because a groin strain needed to be rested.
Player of the match was April Phillips
Wyrley have once again drawn Lichfield Diamonds in the County Cup, it will be tough but they won their last encounter after winning on penalties when it ended 4-4 after extra time.
