Willenhall 0 Leighton 0

Willenhall Town FCWillenhall put in a much improved display, and with a bit more luck could have picked up all three points.

The home side gave a debut to new signing Keith Russell and he nearly broke the deadlock after four minutes.

Left back Craig Milligan had got forward well, and his goal-bound header hit Russell and deflected out for a goal kick.

In a first half of very few chances for either side Ross Brown headed narrowly over from a corner on nine minutes.

The second half was a much livelier affair, with Willenhall enjoying most of the possession.

After Gray had narrowly volleyed over Milligan went millimetres away from giving Willenhall the lead.

He received the ball 30 yards from goal and after letting it bounce once unleashed a powerful half volley that went through a crowd of players only to clatter back off the post.

This spurred Willenhall on to search for a winner.

Substitute Tyrone Barnett saw his fiercely hit first time shot saved after good build up play by Russell.

Willenhall’s best chance came five minutes from time after Leighton failed to clear their lines, a goal mouth scramble saw the ball fall to the feet of Bruce Wheeler, but somehow he managed to lift the ball over the bar from close range.
