Nice and cheesy for Ashmore

ashmore.jpgThis game was one not to miss so some people said and they where right as a sizeable crowd came to the park to watch the Cheesemen play Three Tuns who are the only team to have beaten the Ashmore inn this season.

The park was very picturesque with a light mist flowing along the bank that surrounds the park end of the ground and with the tall buildings on one side of the ground it can make an intimidating atmosphere.

The game overall was played at a very fast and at times furious pace that was all down to the high tempo that the Ashmore started at with wave after wave of attacking play with Mr cheeses himself (Mark Cooper) leading the line up front and Tony Brown alongside him it all looked well for the home side as the football flowed.

But as last week the same thing happened’ the Tuns got a free kick just out side the Ashmore area and the home side went to sleep as ball was lifted into the area up popped Steve Shaw to head the ball past Lee Cooke the outstanding Ashmore goalkeeper.

Things then started to hot up as heavy tackles started to go in one of which saw Craig Healy get booked for a crunching tackle on Adie Smith the right winger of the Tuns - the man that ripped the Ash apart last time the  two teams met but he wouldn’t be getting any change out of Healy to day.

Then with Half time approaching and the Ash getting frustrated after having all the play and northing to show for it.

Carl Rogers (son of Padir Brewster some say) went on a dazzling run and was tripped in the box up stepped man of the match Mark Cooper to coolly slot the ball home to make the score 1-1 at half time.

With discipline a problem manager Padir Brewster had his work cut out to bring order to his boys and in all fairness he put that right and told his lads to vent any frustration on the ball and not the ref.

Whatever he said at half time worked because as soon as the 2nd half started the Ash went with their trademark football - at times it was like perpetual motion with Onions Hale and Mincher playing high class balls around the park you knew what was coming and you know who didn’t let them down.

Yes Mark Cooper got on the end of a nice move to fire home his second of the game at 2-1 up Brewster’s Boys went all out attack when you have the 2 centre backs of Rickhuss & golden boy Danny Pugh going on runs deep into the Tuns Half it surely was all out attack.

Then goals from Cooper, Brown, Onions, Carl (Brewster) Rogers made it a romp for the home team and to rub salt in Smith the Tuns danger man worked off the pitch before the game was over that was all down to Craig Healys marking.
