Hednesford 1 Guiseley 2

pitmen.jpgThe Pitmen bowed out of the FA Trophy at the second qualifying round stage on Saturday, despite an encouraging display from on-loan Stafford Rangers player Sebastian Arnolin.

He settled into his new surroundings and was instrumental in creating a number of the early chances.

In the third minute, Arnolin played a few short passes with Wayne Dyer then a pass went out left to Neil Brisco who broke into the box to pull the ball back to Ross Dyer. The ball went behind him but he still managed to control the ball and get a shot on target which Dickinson saved.

In the 12th minute, Tom Marshall went close when he headed Arnolin’s corner  against the bar.

Dave Brown then beat two players to send a pass to Arnolin who was fouled on the edge of the penalty area.

Arnolin and Tom Marshall lined up to take the free kick but it was the Frenchman who took the kick and he hit a screamer which Dickinson somehow managed to tip over the bar.

Dickinson again came to Guiseley’s rescue in the 21st minute when he deflected Alan Nagington’s shot from close range after the Hednesford player was put clear.

Hednesford took the lead in the 23rd minute when a Arnolin cross from the right was turned into the net.

Ross Dyer was credited with the goal scored from close range but, after the game, it was found that the goal was actually scored by a Guiseley defender

The lead, though, was short-lived and, from a Guiseley corner, James Hanson rose head and shoulders above the home defenders to send a firm header into the net on 29 minutes.

The Pitmen had the ball in the net again in the 34th minute when a Ross Adams cross was headed into the net but the referee blew for a foul on the Guiseley keeper.

Guiseley started the second half brightly with Richard Dunning forcing Gilmartin into a diving save, tipping the shot around the post.

Guiseley sub Paul Rickers then found James Hanson who turned to hit a shot straight at Gilmartin.

The Pitmen responded with Dave Brown making a good run down the middle but, with his head down, he failed to spot the better option of a pass to the wing as he got caught in possession.

Guiseley took the lead in the 63rd minute when Marc Smith glanced a powerful header wide of Gilmartin from a Richard Dunning cross.

The Pitmen had numerous chances to snatch an  equaliser but they just couldn’t find a way through.
