It’s amazing that people leave flowers. It would have been better to have given him the money when he was alive…
It’s all about publicity. A tramp who was probably shunned and ignored by most becomes a ‘celebrity’ when dead.

Anyone else who fancies buying him flowers should send the money in his neame to a charity. makes far more sense.

I’m worried that someone will take a risk crossing to the central reservation to lay a tribute and end up getting run over. You have to climb the railings and the traffic can be fast on that stretch of the ring road. Perhaps it would be better if tributes were laid at the side of the road. We don’t want a tragedy like those kids crossing the motorway in Liverpool and Manchester recently.

E11 LONDON WOLF-He wasn’t ignored when he was alive. People regularly left food for him but they also respected his privacy.

Fred loved the outside life, so sending donations to an animal charity would do the job. RIP Fred

E11 Wolf, Joe was frequently offered money, but he never ever took it. What did he need money for?

He also declined offers of housing.

He lived like that because he wanted to, not because people shunned him, far from it.

If people want to leave him flowers, let them, what’s your problem?

You are just showing your ignorance.

    RIP Jozef.

I left Wolves for Cornwall 3 years ago. My daughter told me about Fred yesterday. Sorry to hear. He was as much a part of Wolverhampton as the churches, Mander Centre and yes indeed even the ring road itself.
For all the years he managed to survive there - Respect…and also respect to the authorities for allowing him to ‘get on with it’ and not insist Health & Safety rules mean no camping on Ring Roads.

    RIP - finally

I knew him as a child and my children have known him he was talked about and seen on our journeys along the ring road God Bless Him The Ring road will never be the same Again may he rest in peace and what ever he disliked so much in life should be able to rest with him.As for the day of his funeral i feel he should have one last journey along the ring road he lived and cared for.
Thanks Fred For your hard work of looking after the ring road and the council didnt even have to pay you.

Having known about “Fred” all my life, remembering how he used to walk around the old market, collecting the dropped fruit, seeing him clearing the leaves from the road & around his tent, my journey home from work will not seem the same. R.I.P Fred

People leave flowers there to morn his passing, however money would of been no good. He choose to live there if my memory serves correctly. He was in the war according to common knowledge, and was taken to a POW camp, and from then on could not bear to be indoors.

    RIP

What a great loss to Wolverhampton, he was almost a part of Wolverhampton and his loss to us will be felt by all. Ring Road will never be the same, neither will Wolverhampton. I agree with most of the comments above, definately a big statue of him with his broom should be erected with a plaque saying some things about him. This will be seen for generations to come, as I saw him when I was young and my parents, it will become a symbol and feature in Wolverhampton! I beg and humbly request the Wolverhampton Council to erect this statue and memorial for him!

R.I.P. JOSEPH - We will never forget you!

(P.S. Anyone know when the funeral is going to be and where can we donate for his funeral as well as memorial?)
