Albion 2 Blackpool 1

morrison.jpgJames Morrison’s first Albion goal gave the Baggies a late win over determined Blackpool.

Ishmael Miller gave Albion the lead after 22 minutes, firing low into the corner from the edge of the area.

But Blackpool levelled just eight minutes later through Scott Vernon.

Tony Mowbray’s men dominated posession and territory but could not force a winner until Morrison struck 11 minutes from time.

The midfielder crashed a terrific shot into the top corner from 20 yards to put Albion’s promotion campaign back on track.

Was at the game, not as efficient as we normally are, but, we grinded the result out. Thought Bostjan Cesar was outstanding along with James Morrison. New keeper needed! Deano doesnt command and doesnt give defence any confidence.

    vital 3pts for wba

only said other day how wba needed to win dirty

was thinking more like teams like coventry charlton etc…

and away games vs lower teams

    not home to blackpool

good 3pts but worrying sign for baggies

shame your only 2nd for one night ;-p

what a goal from morrison! Well done lads, we ground out a result that maybe we didnt deserve…. I thought blackpool played well and knocked the ball around pretty good at times. But goals like that separate class from mediocre. Boing boing bring on norwich!

Great result if not performance, Blackpool impressed me & were well worth a point but for morro’s wonder goal. Would’nt say this was a lucky result or a hard fought one, we were nervous, and wobbly at the back but ultimately we were patient. So often in the past albion have put in a great spirited away performance against a really good side and ending up getting beat by a bit of individual magic by a quality player when they deserved at least a point - but this time the boot was on the other foot, one of our players produced the magic at just the right moment, thats what they’re there for! Hard luck for blackpool - best side i’ve seen this season (as a few dingle mates of mine had also said!)

Blackpool played some very good attacking football tonight. I thought we were very lucky to get all three points. The game changed when Gera came on, he must start, he is playing some of his best football at the moment. Koren and even Macdonald had a postitive impact. I dare say we will play much better than that and not win. Robinson was all over the place, he should stick to what he does best and just defend. Likewise Brunt is the left winger, not the left back. It is him I want to see going for the byline, not Robbo. This fluid approach to positional play is great when it works, but very nerve racking when it doesn’t! No wonder we are conceding goals, our full backs are always out of position, especially against a good, fast, counter-attacking team like The Seasiders. Oh, full marks to there fans… who never stopped singing. Roll on saturday, lets stuff the canaries. 4-0

Good result for you guys, Blackpool really impressed me at the Mol.

It’s starting to get interesting, lets see if we can both catch Watford. They are well equipped to get out of this league but they certainly are not another Reading and they will have a blip.

  11. Happy_baggie said:

Decent performance - great goal from Morro - deserved to win any game that one…

so we are playing below par - not bad for a team 2nd in the league is it ??

Did anyone expect MMDP etc to be on here today - they were all over it yesterday… hiding again bless em.

Notts wolf 9 is right - it IS getting interesting. Like last year, no ome will run away with the league and I can see plenty of drama to come - but we are right in there and last nights result should give the lads some confidence.

I thought Cesar was great - but where was barnett ?? Not even on the bench…..

  12. mark abraham said:

phew ,perhaps the top comment will remember keilys save at 1-1 a match winner? why did barnett not play, tex looked out of sorts as all the blackpool players were tall, they played well and stuck to a good game plan but we fgot 3 points!!!

we8wba you must be forgeting when blackpool nearly beat us at home!!

every win is a good win.!
just hope we can keep up with watford!

    see ya on the 25th

  14. we8wba said:

9 - i think if watford put another couple wins together they could be clear

looking at top who can realistically catch them

    wolves, wba, charlton

we got two tough away games coming up

wba got them in couple of weeks away so if they lose that

charlton so unpredicatble when you always think they doing well they get shock result

watford are also well equipped they win there next 2-3 games they gone

  15. wbabomber said:

I think Watford will win this league, they have pure strength.
I think alot will depend on them keeping King fit, not the greatest entertainers in this division, but they know what they need to do to win a game. As for second, who knows?? The top six i think will be, in no particular order, Watford, Stoke, Albion, Wolves, Ipswich, Charlton.
But it is going to be so tight, others who could make the top six are Hull and Southampton.
    Exciting ay it?????

  16. Bojangles Wolf said:

    Good result from you lot…

    A cracking goal from Morrison!

  17. Terry Wills. said:

What a change to play ‘badly’ and yet still pick up three points.

Cesar and Morrison were outstanding while the intoduction of Zoltan Gera made a significanr difference.

Shergill McDonald’s pace really troubled Blackpool and if, and when !he manages to score his first goal to boost his confidence he could be a serious contender for a starting place.

‘Tiny’ Miller and Kevin Phillips posed problems for the visitors- but at the other end full-backs Carl Hofkens and Paul Robinson’s total neglect of defensive ability was a very worrying trend.

Yes carry on playing Tony Mowbray’s prefered brand of football-BUT not at the expense of gifting the opposition the ball when an attack breaks down.

The FANTASTIC goal from James Morrison was good enough to win ANY game.

Yes Blackpool could have won the game in the second-half.

But conversely if the Baggies had turned their first half superiority into goals the game would have been as good as over at half-time.

Thanks to the open minded wolves fans who have posted on here so far - we should be able to admit when our rivals have done ok… so once again i ask where are all the muppets ??

Come on MMDP, sandwell massive, Funkster76 etc… cat got ya tongue ??

Bet you will be first on here if wolves beat cardiff…

“post when ya winning, you only post when ya winning….”

blackpool deserved a draw last night.
they outplayed us 2nd half and it was only a wonder strike that denied them that.
but 3 points is 3 points take them and move on to sat now.
i agree with other fans that we need another keeper deano has been a superb keeper but its time for a change i feel.

  21. RealistWolves said:

Good 3 points, doesn’t matter who against, the most you can ask for is a win and you got tha, well done.

  22. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

Good result for you lot, Blackpool aint a bad side and you got Norwich next aint ya? so from what we saw of them at the mol worst side ive seen so i rekon you got amuther 3 points there.
well like i sed well done.

come on wolves we need tha points tonightt!

  23. srise said:

Agree with 2 about Deano. Great second half save…but, given Albion’s record on defending set pieces why was he arguing with the referee instead of organising the defence when Robbo gave away a freekick to the right of the box in second half? He needs to focus.

  24. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

Good result for you lot! I think you’ve got 3 points onm Saturday aswell.
So we need to get the 3 points tonight and i believe we will (fingers crossed) to keep up with the likes of baggies and Charlton.

Then again you’ve got a couple of away games to come haven’t you? im not havin a pop but as known your away record isn’t the best.

    Come on The Wolves!

  25. baggyboys said:

    Wolves Ladyy =D
    - we aint got the best away record
    - you aint got the best home record
i dont think wba or wolves can judge each other on form:P

  26. Funkster London said:

A great result for Albion, looked a bit worrying at times (from reports on Sky)it’s really shapping up now, Watford do look mentally strong and thats a key.

I do feel that Albion and Wolves will be top 4. Would prefer Wolves up automatically and you guys make via play offs, would be fantastic to have a black country Prem derby!! lets all live that dream!

  27. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

No we haven’t got the best home record .. if anything i prefer when we play away seems to be less pressure on the team from the 20 thousand at Molinuex.

  28. Happy_baggie said:

26 - the 22 thousand we had last night all sang the team on - pressure is what you get when it aint going so well…

  29. terrywalsallbaggie said:

astle is the king (19) your right but thats the diffrence when you got quality in your team they win you games,:-)boing boing

just saw your winner on sky, very good goal. looks like blackpool are gonna make many good sides in league look ordinary this season.

i can see a prem club paying big money for marlon king in january, so let’s see how good watford are after xmas. cos ellington aint nowhere near as good as king. and they look ordinary without him.

just watched your fans reaction video on here, god u got some mooses going to your games.

come on the wolves, upto second tonight !!!!

  31. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

    Happy_baggie -

I never said your 22 thousand fans last night didn’t sing all i meant was Wolves have alot of fickle fans that haven’t got the patience when its 0-0 and start to get on the teams back (which doesnt help) But when things are goin well there quick enough to sing the praise.
So that being the reason i prefer WOLVES to play AWAY.

  32. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

    Happy_baggie -

I never actually commented on your fans.
What i did mean was that Wolves have fickle fans that haven’t got the pateince when its 0-0 and got the lads back (which does not help) but when things are goin well they are quick enough to sing the praise.
Or they just expect to much to begin with.

  33. Akidos said:

Good result for wba.but my money is on blackpool to win the league.they were a different class from us.n they handled a big side like ours as if we were sunday league stuff.n they were playn away!

  34. Happy_baggie said:

wolves ladyy 29 / 30 - fair enough… I’m just saying the crowd are there to cheer the team on - pressure only comes when things are not going well - not a critisism, just an opioion.

  35. Wolves Ladyy =D said:

Fair enough everyones entitled to their opinions.
But Wolves aint do bad to be honest yet theirs still pressure from some fans.

  36. Bojangles Wolf said:

    Akidos

    Are you serious son???

  37. Akidos said:

“ASTLE IS THE KING” like u said in the pub b4 the game.our defence needs to sharpen up.it came true.good result n hope we work on the defence

  38. Happy_baggie said:

wolves ladyy - without being unkind… wolves fans DO have a reputation for getting on the teams back - maybe they are just very demanding, but even this season there have been boos at half time.. I agree you are having a good season, so I’m not sure why some fans feel the need to put more pressure on.

  39. Akidos said:

‘Bojangles Wolf ‘ their supporters n their team beat us hands down. Why dont we sing like them? cus we lack in confidence n we r vulnerable at the back.

  40. Akidos said:

“Bojangles Wolf” i dont look forward to playn them again.do u?

  41. Bojangles Wolf said:

    Akidos

No not at there place on a cold february night I dont. they are a decent team… I weren’t knocking you just daint know of you was serious or not!

In Fairness if you play like you did against Ipswich and QPR i can see you getting 5 or six past Norwich…

  42. Happy_Baggie said:

Akidos - what a load of old pony… your post 39 is just stupid.. I would love to play them every week - class and quality always tells.

Their team beat us hands down …?? I think we know where MMDP is today !!
