Narrowboat fans from across the region flocked to Stourbridge in their hundreds for two days of canal-themed events and fun.
More than 100 colourful boats packed out the historic stretch of water in Canal Street for this year’s open weekend staged by Stourbridge Navigation Trust.
It was the largest number of vessels to take part since the launch of the event 24 years ago. The nearby Bonded Warehouse was also opened up for a series of craft stalls over all three floors. Visitors were able to step aboard one of British Waterways’ restored working boats and see traction engines alongside cars and buses from the golden age of transport.
The event celebrated the history of the town’s canals which were a lifeline to the glassmaking factories of Stourbridge.
A spokesman for Stourbridge Navigation Trust said the event had been a success.
“We had a steady stream of people coming on both days and the atmosphere was wonderful as always,” he said. “We would like to thank everyone who supported us.”
