Money anger at fans and media

Walsall manager Richard MoneyWalsall boss Richard Money aimed his latest verbal blast at sections of supporters and members of the media as he insisted he was pleased with his youngsters’ performance.

Money began the unexpected rant to the media in response to the suggestion that Saturday had been ‘one of those days’.

He replied: “I can’t believe you’ve said that. ‘One of those days’ to me implies that you think we were poor. I can’t believe you’ve said that.”

The Saddlers manager, who has questioned the level of criticism from fans and journalists several times in his 18-month reign, was then asked for his own verdict on the afternoon’s action.

And, after providing his analysis of the match, he continued his blast at critical fans, including one particular supporter close to the Walsall dugout.

‘We played a Championship team,” said Money.

“There’s absolutely no doubt. I think you’ve got to get a grip on where we are and who we are and so have some of our supporters unfortunately.

“Our players have performed miracles in the last few weeks, absolute miracles.

“They are a group of young players, trying to play the game properly, who have gone and played against probably the best team in this division and pushed them all the way.

“There were two mistakes. There was one from a corner and one when we have given the ball away in our own third when we shouldn’t have.

“Apart from that we pushed and pressed and tried to do everything we could to get ourselves back into the game.

“But I told the players afterwards I don’t want anybody’s heads down after that because there wasn’t much wrong with that at all in my view and if you guys have a different view of that then that’s your opinion.

“But I really do think that you and some of our supporters need to get a grip of yourselves.

“I had a guy behind me telling me to resign when the second goal went in. Does he want to think about where this club was 18 months ago?

“Unbelievable. Unbelievable. We have played against a really good team and a team full of Championship footballers who punished us for two errors.

“I wouldn’t say we were at our fluent best but do you know why they are a championship team?

“Without the ball they were absolutely fantastic - top, top drawer and it was very difficult for us to play. That’s what makes them the best team in this division in my view.

“I’m very happy with what I saw in view of what might happen in the medium and long term.”

Southend boss Steve Tilson was delighted with three points.

He said: “I think it was a good result for us because Walsall have been on a good run of late.

“They have only lost one of the last seven. Any result away from home is good but I think this meant a little bit more because of the run they have been on.

“You would expect them to push us as the home side but I felt at 2-0 we were pretty comfortable and our keeper hasn’t had to make too many saves so I’m really pleased.”

    I am with DD
There are a few dick heads behind the dugout
Old cronies who love a good moan
They are entitled to express their views but they are wrong
I sat behind the dug out recently and could not believe some of the hostile shouting from OUR supporters
Shut up and let DD do his job
You havnt got a clue when it comes to team management
Air your views but thats all they are
He is the manager and most of us want him to stay
    We are with you DD

i agree totally. I hope DD isn’t influenced by the idiots he can hear.He is a good manager and it’s about time we had some stability.Without that we’ll never make any progress.

I’m with him too but he has to realise that a fan is a strange animal which has unrealistic expectations and condemns people the instant these aren’t met.
You’re in for a lot of tears if you listen to these people DD.

Southend are not a Championship team, they are in Div 1 like us. It seems every team we play should be there or thereabouts. We have played 6 certainties for promotion already this year. Cant beat getting youir excuses in early can you?

Living in Scotland and relying on the club site and newspaper websites I do not have much first hand experience of seeing the team play.HOWEVER remember that the team that won the title last year is not the team we see now. The youngsters are doing a grand job and DD is to be congratulated not scorned.

I think DD is taking things too heart, his track record to date with Walsall is good but he is let down by the board. Having lost the likes of Keats a true Walsall stalwart, and others who grafted to get promotion last season, the fans can be excused for getting frustrated at lacklustre performances. You have to remember Walsalls home record since moving to the Banks’s Stadium is not good
and fans do get fed up of having their weekends ruined and going home depressed all the time. I certainly had enough a few years ago and have not been on the ground since, after being a regular forver 50 years. My advice to DD is dont take things to heart from supporters, the Board are the ones to watch ask Ray Graydon and Colin Lee; because the Board will stab you in the back when it suits them.
